only way to fire such a big round in a pistol, mind you i think you would have to be careful which way the wind was blowing as a lot of the powder would burn after it left the barrel, so if you fired into the wind you would most likely lose an eyebrow or two !
it was built to show how effective the recoil absorbtion system it uses was,it was mostly a demo piece for that system, apparently it worked well enough to allow controlled fire with it

There is 2.54cm or 25.4mm to the inch, so a 20mm round is about .80cal bullet!
DAMN!!! What are you going shoot with that thing?!!
Oh, just some cans...
Cans?!!
Yeah- Africans, Jamicans, Mexicans, Dominicans and Puerto Ricans!

you know it does kind of look like a Colonial Blaster. Ha, that's cool.
ElfenMagix, it's a breach loaded weapon because I don't think any mechanism that could otherwise load a .50 BMG would be just to damn large.
So am I the only one left wondering just what the smallest weapon you could reasonable make to fire .50 BMG rounds would be? Cause that would hilariously awesome for clearing rooms.

That there's an elk/moose gun, Awin.
For those of us that consider the metric system to be the devil's own work, 462 m/s = about 1515 fps, that's supersonic speeds with a 900gr bullet, which is just shy of 1/7th a pound.
the original Cordite loads from 1909 are listed as being 2050fps (620m/s) and 11,400J muzzle energy, but that might be from an actual elephant gun.

How the heck are you supposed to grip that thing? By the barrel? No way! Even a strong, two, handed grip would have that iron slight blade lodged between my eyes. How's the recoil on that thing?! ![[rant]@#$%![/rant]](http://r15.imgfast.net/users/1512/11/78/18/smiles/955224.gif)

above are .700 nitro express and the massive 2-bore round,it fires a 3500 grain solid bronze bullet

on the left is a S&W .50,then a Winchester .45-70 then a .700 nitro express,and finally the 2-bore !

.600 Nitro is for girly-men.
Men use .700 Nitro Express.
And real men use .950 JDJ.
While technically a girly-man caliber, the name alone allows this round to be wielded by men without shame - .600 Overkill.

Re: A Real BFG !!!!
Was watching another episode of Ultimate Weapons on The Military Channel last night and saw this interesting modification for the AR-15 that allows it to fire a .50 caliber round.
The .50 Beowulf
It's purpose is to allow personnel manning checkpoints the ability to engage and stop vehicles, which is something 5.56x45mm NATO can have a problem with (it has been shown to bounce off of sloped laminated glass as found in car windshields and it also can have issues penetrating deep into truck and car passenger compartments when fired head-on).

That would describe 5.56x45mm NATO in an anti-vehicle role, which is why the .50 Beowulf round and modification were developed.

I meant the gun is a pice of shit but the .50 Beowulf is not to my liking as well its just a over-hiped cartrige barated my popular culture and buff-wanna-bees. No offence meant by that.

Re: A Real BFG !!!!
Well it's not meant for general use. It is specifically designed for anti-vehicle use at checkpoints to stop suicide bombers driving car bombs.
