Re: Freeze- Dried Food
beef jerky and roasted peanuts, baby!
and McDonalds is evil... when you eat one of their hamburgers, you can feel it hit bottom... like a condensed ball of fat. I'd rather eat pretty much any other fast food.
also, MREs aren't that bad (better than McDonalds). but they constipate you on purpose >.<

Re: Freeze- Dried Food
I actually tried a freeze dried ice cream bar one (some transportation museum was selling them, or something). It was... crunchy.
And LOC, I prefer other types of fast food to McDonald's myself, but aren't some of the products from other burger chains actually WORSE as far as the amount of fat and calories they contain?

You're right to an extent. Astronauts do eat freeze-dried food, but you can also find it in things like cereal. And some other stuff too...

Re: Freeze- Dried Food
...set a McDonalds burger next to any other fast food chain's (though I might be exaggerating here... for example: I have never been to a Sonic, because we have none here, and I have only been to a White Castle once for the same reason. when I talk like this, I'm pretty much saying Burger King, Wendy's, Jack in the Box and Taco Bell) comparable analog... and you know what you'll find? It's smaller. It may have the same, or slightly less fat, calories, et cetera... but it's bite-sized in comparison to the burger/burrito next to it.Piero wrote:And LOC, I prefer other types of fast food to McDonald's myself, but aren't some of the products from other burger chains actually WORSE as far as the amount of fat and calories they contain?
I don't know how, but McDonalds burgers are condensed. You look at the pathetic little thing you just spent four dollars on and think "there's no way this is gonna fill me up". You eat it, and though you feel a weight in your stomach... it hasn't expanded, and you don't feel full.
...so you buy another. That's their marketing strategy... and why they 'super-size' people.
...and that's why I think they're the evil empire of fast food chains.
I also mostly cook for myself. Whenever I have enough time anyway (140 hour weeks are a bitch).

Re: Freeze- Dried Food
Okay, you may have a point there. Although I wouldn't say Burger King and Wendy's are all that good either. Like seriously... Triple Whoppers (in the case of Burger King)? Burgers with four patties (in the case of Wendy's)? Who thought up those ideas?

Re: Freeze- Dried Food
No fast food is all that good (with the possible exceptions of Subway and Taco Del Mar)... McDonalds just takes the cake, charges you $6 for it, and shoves it down your throat while offering you seconds.
incidentally, most of my home cooking winds up looking like this (less blurry in person).

Re: Freeze- Dried Food
Well, large fast food chains don't tend to be very good anyway. However, I wouldn't write off ALL fast food. In some places you can get a half decent Greek wrap (forget the proper name) for a reasonable price. Although it may not necessarily be very filling...
Incidentally, I'd like to submit KFC's 'Wicked Crunch' as one of the most disgusting pieces of fast food ever. Who's bright idea was it to put processed cheese sauce in a spicy chicken sandwich?
And would someone please explain to me why that second clip is set on the bridge of the Enterprise D?

As for the fast food pics from LoC, gotta love senseless violence. Yomi probably hates being reminded of her dieting habits with the Burger King in her face.

No. Subway has healthy options, but it also has UNhealthy ones. Their meatball subs are pretty bad, actually (and they're what I usually order when I go there too...

Nothing from Subways is healthy. It really upsets my tummy, and my tummy can usually tomaine and e-coli poisoning head on! Blimpies is more preferred for me.
As for KFC, I like it, but they use Perduce chickens. Perdue chickens never touch the ground from the day they were hatched and live on a convey belt system until the end of their processing days! YUM! Now Thats Processed Food!

oddly enough... I can't stand meatball subs (yet I ordinarily sorta like meatballs). I always get something that has roasted chicken in it, and get a whole bunch of veggies...Piero wrote: Subway has healthy options, but it also has UNhealthy ones. back when we had Blimpies around here.. I couldn't tell the difference ('cept for price), so I opted for Subway.Elfen wrote:Nothing from Subways is healthy. It really upsets my tummy, and my tummy can usually tomaine and e-coli poisoning head on! Blimpies is more preferred for me.
Then again, Oregon has strict food service laws, so that could be part of it.
Then there's Quizno's... tastier but fattier.

Re: Freeze- Dried Food
Okay, what the heck are the people who manage my school's cafeteria thinking with their menu? Some of the meals are decent, but seriously, today's lunch... chicken strips, french fries, and pasta in what's supposedly cheese sauce? Is there anything in that meal besides starches and fat?
Oh well, at least Dinner had a few veggies. Looking forward to them finishing renovations of the rest of the cafeteria and having an actual menu. Hopefully it will include some half decent stuff...

When I went to high school, my school was one of the few (in the whole nation!) that served Goulash. It still does on some days.
Funny, anytime the biology dept. openned up the buckets of formildhyde frogs for disecting, the cafeteria served pizza that say. Noone made the connection but me,
