Re: Punk Rock

Post by Nachtsider on Wed 1 Oct 2008 - 12:23

Avril's music isn't quite punk, actually. Her faster, more upbeat numbers are in that flavor, but not the rest of her material. I'd consider her 'pop-rock'.

And MCR is definitely not punk rock. They're just 'rock'.

I wonder if Triela-Chan and Rico-chan will actually come back to read this.

But whatever.

I like Avril Lavigne's music for the most part - in my opinion, her first album was good, her second was GREAT, but her third fell FLAT. I'm not too big a fan of today's mainstream punk groups like Blink 182 and Simple Plan. I'm for more unconventional punk outfits like Alkaline Trio and the Quintessentials, and classic punk ensembles like the Ramones.

I LIKEY ZE PUNK-ROCK!!!

In no particular order my favorite bands and favorite songs from them.
Out of all the music I love, punk-rock is about the only genre I consistently keep up with. Hey, I was raised on the stuff.

The Ramones - Howlin' at the moon
The Faction - Skate and Destroy
Iggy and the Stooges - My Idea of Fun
Black Flag - Nervous Breakdown
Agent Orange - Bloodstains
Social Distortion - Story of my Life
The Clash - London Calling
The Sounds of Liberty(TSOL) - Fuck You, Tough Guy
The Richmond Sluts - Yeah, Alright
Billy Idol - Rebel Yell
Siouxsie Sioux and the Banshees - Cities in the Dust
Buckcherry - Everything
The Brassknuckle Boy - Taking the Streets Back
The Dropkick Murphys - Shipping Up to Boston
Dead Kennedy's - Police Truck
The Voidoids - Liars Beware
The New York Dolls(JOHNNY THUNDERS!) - Dance like a Monkey
Body Count - Cop Killer

There's way more to the list, but I gave myself a one minute limit to regulate the length of this post.

Don't forget the punk anthem that has the distinction of being one of the few single to incite public protest including Bonfire by album. Tapes and LPs!

they're a mystery... how anyone can make something catchy out of rhyming with yeast infection is beyond me. But they pull it off, and use accordions in the process.

Funny that I find this topic after finishing a visual novel based around punk rock...

It's actually really, really awesome. Complete with healthy amounts of references to The Clash, The Ramones, and especially the Sex Pistols.
