Yes, I recommend Gioia Tauro. It's the primary container port for Italy and will likely have a role in Pactio as it is the primary import point used by the 'Ndrangheta for cocaine shipments.

Umm, does it have to be containers? Because if it's mass imports from Japan then a car-carrier would be the more logical choice. In that case you'll need somewhere with a RORO (roll-on roll-off) facility. I'm not sure if Gioia Tauro has one of those, but I think I saw mention that Cagliari does.

If you need containers though, yes, I'd stick with Gioia Tauro.

Looking at the sat view of Gioia Tauro, I see a car storage area and a RO-RO capable dock.

That provision makes it illegal to utilize captured soldiers as slave labor to support the war effort of their enemies...a la Bridge on the River Kwai.

Such a ruling strikes me as ridiculous. A POW should, like any other prisoner, be expected to be put to work. And the whole 'officers are exempt' thing leaves me scratching my head even more.

I'm feeding them, clothing them and putting roofs over their heads. My resources and manpower are being eaten up in exchange for... what? Damned if I'm not getting something out of the deal.

Just read this section proposing POWs receive a SALARY from their captors. Holy god.

Perhaps you could give them citizenship or something. Or just not care about the Geneva Convention, win the war, and rewrite such documents as you please.

1. Someone concocts a fictional god, to fulfill a certain role (instilling hope in a downtrodden populace, perhaps).

2. Belief in said god becomes widespread.

3. The strength of devotees' faith becomes so intense, that said mental energy manifests itself on a pre-physical plane of existence as a non-corporeal consciousness, which answers to the description and characteristics of the fictional god.

4. The created god acts out its role accordingly and produces tangible results.

5. A positive feedback loop is created, with increasing belief in the god, spurred by its efficacy, adds to its power and its ability to aid its devotees.

Is worshiping an 'artificial' divinity any less valid than worshiping a 'true' one? Personally, I think whatever works, works.

Discuss.

Not even slightly. If it makes sense for you, and helps you with your life, who is anyone else to question you?

The problem comes when religions force you to stay, or discourage any religions (IE. all religions that I know of besides new-age religions and derivatives of Hinduism - Buddhism, Sikhism, Jainism etc. There may be more that I don't know of).
This belief that you are fundamentally right and anyone who disagrees with you is stupid/deluded/brainwashed is what causes all the problems and the friction.

I've lost count of the number of people I've seen following systems that clearly aren't right for them...

Ultimately, it comes down to the moral code established by the religion (which, pretty much across the board, can be summed up as "don't be an asshole to others.") People lose sight of the moral code for all the minutiae in religion, losing track of the real reason for it in the first place.

Why don't US anime licensees release in Blu-ray more often?

I just ordered the US-licensed releases of Ore no Imouto ga Konnami Kawaii Wake ga Nai, Kimi ni Todoke, Darker than Black: Ryuusei no Gemini and Shinryaku! Ika Musume and all of them are DVD only.

It is getting better - I also ordered Katanagatari, which is dual-BRD+DVD as is the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. And RideBack and Ga-Rei Zero were dual releases.

But Sound of the Sky was DVD-only. So are the two Rosario+Vampires.

I have fansubs for all these shows from the Japanese Blu-ray releases, but want to support the US licensees as well as the original Japanese creators by buying the US sets. However, I feel I'm taking a step backwards in quality to do so.

I think part of the reason may have something to do with Blu-ray DRM. Anime companies are generally very good at avoiding obtrusive DRM, but with Blu-ray you don't have a choice in the matter. It's either all (with a charge per title per year) or nothing.

Having said that, I have Appleseed: Ex Machina on blu-ray and all that has is region encoding, whereas the DVD release wouldn't even play in VLC on my computer. So that might have nothing to do with it *shrug*

He clasps the crag with crooked hands;
Close to the sun in lonely lands,
Ring'd with the azure world, he stands.

The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls;
He watches from his mountain walls,
And like a thunderbolt he falls.

Does anyone know how to get a subbed show to play on an iPhone 3? I got a converter that will turn them to the proper format, but I lose the subs in the process. A google search turned up a way if I can find the video and subs separate, but is there an easier way? If not, where is a good resource for finding shows this way?

Kinda depends on the series man. With most series now a days people code their subs into the main movie file so they cant be tampered with afterwards by other subbing groups.
There are tools out there that will allow you to change the subs into a differant format but I haven't really looked into that.

There are two versions of Subs, Hardsubs and sof subs. Hardsubs are always visible. Softsubs are only visible when you enable them to show. Like with a dual audio Release that has english and japanese and includes subs. (The audio also having a Hard and soft format to them depending on that fact.)

Might want to look into a tool that convert the subs into hard subs. so you have no choice but to see them as your viewing the file.

Hope that helps.

Note: Hard and soft subs also come as the none encoded seporate files. although most are hardsubs.

I used to use mkvToolnix to extract subtitle files, and then MediaCoder to hard-encode them. Obviously, that only works with MKV files though Razz

Well depending on the original files before the conversion to Iphone format, theprodigalson might be able to use something similar.

Psoriasis can occur on the hands, yes, but one who suffers from it would get outbreaks on their elbows, knees and scalp, too. A photo would help.

I just discovered that I have a problem and I hope someone here can help me out. I've finished chapter 15 of "Crossroads" and just tried to post it up on FF.net. Unfortunately, the site kicked back an error, telling me that I had reached the 15 document limit for my story. Any thoughts on how I might work around this?

Could you have to many files on the site and you need to get rid of one of your uploaded chapters instead of waiting for it to expire.

There is a limit of 15 documents in the "Document Manager" section. If you delete one it will not effect what you have in the published stories section...these will remain intact and available.

It is here... It's a city parking violation to park against the flow of traffic. Don't ask me WHY... all I know is that it makes great PC to issue citations.

And having ordered the two DVD sets for Shinryaku! Ika Musume...

I am both pleased and annoyed, but I love Ika-chan so I pre-ordered it. On the plus side, the DVDs are ripped to Apple iTunes so I can take it with me on the iPhone/iPad/MacBook Pro so not a total loss.

And Darker than Black: Ryuusei no Gemini ended up being a DVD+Blu-ray set. dancin\\'

Has anyone ever gotten a response back from FF.net admins to a problem report email?

I' m not asking "have you ever had a problem fixed" - they break stuff and fix stuff all the time. I'm just wondering if anyone has ever received a reply.
