@Alfisti wrote:Jesse and Amy started out as what are called "design personas", basically characters representing a specific market segment. So you do all your research, distill down an average, turn it into a character and then design for that character. It's just a bit more interesting and easier than looking at straight numbers and data. Anyway, Jesse came first, but then we (my design group) realised she had turned out a little too much like us to be truly useful, so Amy came along to fill the rest of the gap. Anyway, after the project was over I liked them so much that I continued to use them. I originally intended to use them in a "slice of life/gag of the week" type comic but yeah...

Awesome. Well they broke the log-jam I was having to re-start/re-image Once Again so cheers.

Not... entirely certain where to drop this one, but since the rest of the fQ stuff is in here:

dA variant.

I've had a few ideas for an fQ fashion shoot for awhile, these two fit into the same general thematic vein so having a stab with them seemed like a resonable idea. Playing with black and white rendering too, which I've decided isn't any easier than rendering in colour.

Other stuff, Triela's dress is from SOOT. which is the lable of a mate from uni. Girl knows how to select a fabric. The semi-transparent component of the ensemble gave me a few headaches... not aided by the fact that the picture I was using wasn't the greatest, so I was having to guess a bit at the dress's structure.

And yes, if you check in Vol. 6 of the manga, there is indeed an LC2 in 'Sandro's apartment. Apparently he uses it to store books on, which is at least more sensible than trying to sit on the thing.

On J+M's side, Monty's sunnies aren't really Ralph Lauren, but they're similar to some that they do sell and that I had in mind at the time. Anything marked as "Beatrice Lane" or "Beswick & Tomkins" is stuff I've made up for them.

I actually quite like that look on Jethro... probably sans-tie though. Oh, and thanks to Kisk for loaning me Michele's Ferrari. Wink

Cool and Awesome, Alfisti.
Interesting clothes Triela is wearing (although i think she never would wear see-through/transparent clothes in canon GSG Razz ).

Well, she did have some sort of silk nighty thing on at some point in the manga...

Well the dress itself is two components, black under and transparent over, but I also doubt it's something she'd wear in canon... or runny mascara for that matter. Hence "fashion shoot", where you can get away with people being out of character in their dress sense and poise as it's all under the control of the photographer, not the model. Wink

Cheers mate.

Actually I had outfit ideas for a few different fratelli, but these were the only two that I was happy with the shoot ideas for. Agapita was the closest to getting a shot in this (she fulfills my need to draw girly clothes... sorry Robert ), but I couldn't figure out a way to get Avise in neatly that I was happy with...

It possibly helps that Triela's SIG and Monty's PPK have fairly similar profiles too.

As to the contrast between the two pages... I actually seriously considered posting them seperately for a bit, just on the concern that one would overpower the other. However, the idea was to do a spread so...

I have my own thories about what will happen to Triela and Hilshire...

Quick pen sketch just to give myself a mental break from the comic. Never quite realised what an unusual facial structure Matt Smith has untill trying to draw it... failed miserably. Ditto for the Silence.

Fezes are cool.

To be honest, I actually had an idea where Jose and Henrietta of the now end up getting reincarnated in a different time and place in a sort of 'purgatory', not unlike 'Life on Mars' or 'Ashes to Ashes'. However, I should watch some episodes to further cement the concept.

Winter 20x1 edition of fQ now available from the compound shop.

dA variant here

Cover models for this issue are Jethro + Monty, shot on location at their not-so-secret Alpine hideaway. Jethro's A4 Allroad filling in as "obligatory designer fashion shoot Audi".

Borrowed Avise and Nicco for La Famiglia, last item references Chapter 11 of ChaosKin's story... Hope you mob don't mind.

Always nice to see the latest issue of FQ and catch up on what the folks of the SWA have been up to. I have to wonder though, if Monty's aware or would approve of the fact that Lucy has apparently been hacking into surveillance satellites again to spy on her sisters. Razz

And no worries on the borrowing. I think we can all agree that these little cameo mentions are always a pleasure.

I think she would be singularly unimpressed... though possibly not initially for the reasons you'd imagine.

Monty: ...and what if the actual owners of those satellites decide to wonder why you're pointing them at that particular part of the planet and decide to take an interest?

I dunno, honestly I'd sort of pictured this one being shot from a cherry picker or something. I figure most things that would wind up in fQ would be a bit OoC, it's a photo shoot: so "reality" takes a back seat to getting a good image. Wink

Lol, yeah I know. I was just poking fun at how the angle of the photo does kind of look like it could have been taken by a spy satellite zooming right in on the pair. Also, J&M's stances make it seem like something of a more...tender moment and I figured Monty might be a little miffed at the notion of some of her sisters catching her indulging in a private moment with her handler.

Seems like.

Despite her misgivings, I think even for Monty there would be some appeal in the idea of a week of cosy alpine relaxation curled up with a book and having only a bottle of cognac and her handler for company...

When I went trekking in the Dolomites a few years back it interested me to see the scope and scale of the remains of the First World War that continue to mark the mountainscape there. One of the stories that I have planned involves a campaign in this region, and as fQ takes us to the uplands this issue I could also turn my research into a tourist's battlefields guide by Avise (with sidebars on good hotels and restaurants) for the magazine. Would that interest anyone?

Would that interest anyone?
Absolutely. If you can give me copy and pictures I'll be happy to do the layout.

Post by Alfisti on Thu 18 Aug 2011 - 4:18

Well now, here's someone I've not drawn for awhile...

dA version

For those who've not yet been introduced, this is Jesse, 20 y/o QUT Industrial Design 3rd year.

How best to describe her...

You know that person you know who is annoyingly good at, well, as far as you can tell.... everything? Without putting in any apparent effort?

Yeah, that's Jesse.

Get to know her a little better of course and you'll realise that she puts in a huge amount of effort and is probably the only idiot who's been pulling all nighters since the beginning of semester, but somehow her personality always make it seem like she's just cruising.

Oh, and if you thought Monty was serious about coffee... you ain't seen nothing yet. Jesse will and has thrown people out of her work for ordering decaf. Otherwise she's pretty relaxed... also an armchair socialist, psudo-intellectual, workaholic, hater of comic-sans, disliker of humanity in general, perma-broke, graphic and stencil artist, considers the world to be there mostly for her amusement because the only other option would be to get wound up about it...

...oh, and rant connoisseur.

Very nice. That seems like a very "action intensive" pose for the perpetually laid-back Jesse.

Rico having deep thoughts somehow seems incongruous for her.

That picture launches a thousand theories in my head about where Rico got that hat.

  • Filched from the "mission closet"?
  • A gift from some Agency member, appreciative of help Rico provided on a joint mission?
  • Something Rico saw in a shop window and absolutely fell in love with, to the extent that even Jean was forced to his knees by her begging?

The possibilities are endless...

Maybe Rico is a closet Adam Baldwin fan...

Rico: *pondering* He never seems to age!

Playing around with trying to emulate that look of using a projector to super-impose an image over someone.

Didn't go quite as well as I'd hoped.

Originally I wanted to do something like this for an fQ cover shot. Unfortunately I a) couldn't get it to work the way I wanted and b) couldn't think of a cyborg who would fit the bill.

Have music.

Lucretia's fairly thin, and being a hardcore sci-fi fan and technophile, she would totally dig the electronica vibe. Incidentally, that song reminds me rather strongly of Daft Punk, which Lucy personally adores. (H.B.F.S. would probably qualify as her anthem.)

Perhaps this could pass for Erina's alter-ego, DJ 'E'. I think she has the build for it, and being part of the Daft Punk club with Lucy and Heinrich, I think that if she was requested to DJ somewhere (like the Social Welfare Agency Charity Ball), this could pass for her stage persona.

Hmm, you know that never really occured to me before but Bag Raiders are a little Daft Punk-ish in their sound. I guess though that they do come from the same part of the Modular stable as Cut///Copy and The Presets... both of whom supported Daft Punk when we saw them in Melbourne (which, if not my absolute favorite concert of all time, was certainly the most epic).

Hmm... Lucy's digs the electronica hmm? What's her feelings on the classic Tubular Bells... because she may be able to solve a problem for me.

Tubular Bells? As in the Exorcist theme? If so, then its would probably be a little too slow-paced for her. Her favorite genres are dub-step, drum & bass and ambient techno.

Kara would also find Tubular Bells a bit slow for her tastes, as well. Jean Michel Jarre is about as slow as she likes to go. She's more a Tiësto and Ferry Corsten kinda girl.

...this of course is Tubular Bells III - "Secrets" and "Far Above the Clouds" (my two favorite tracks off that album). However, if she can dig the Tubular Bells III, I may need to borrow her for an fQ cover.
