Hello...

Post by Guest on Fri 24 Jul 2009 - 11:16

It took me a little while to get over my fear of registering
at forums before I decided to join, but now Iím here. Letís celebrate with a
story:

Not too long ago, I hated anime. It just seemed so stupid to
me. That is, until I discovered Gunslinger Girl. ďOh god,Ē I said to myself
right as I was about to watch the first episode, ďThis is going to be so
stupid!Ē But, lo and behold, I actually enjoyed it. So I watched the rest of
the series, and enjoyed them all as well. ďThis canít be right,Ē I said, ďMe? Liking
an anime?!Ē The world could have ended at that very moment, but it didnít.

So, where does that leave me now? Right here of course! And
you want to know what? I still hate most of the anime out there. But Gunslinger
Girl is the one that led me to believe that not all anime is bad. Only 99.9% of
it. Razz

Seriously speaking, Iíll try not to be too harsh when judging
other anime, but if I come off a bit like that, please donít crucify me. Iím
not meaning to rip on you or any of the other fans, itís just my way of saying
that itís not my thing.

God, my first post and Iíve already written five paragraphs.
I donít normally make posts like this, so enough of my rambling, let the welcoming commence!

Welcome dude.

Anime comes in many different flavors, shapes and sizes. you just have to pick out what you like and disregard the rest just like regular TV Programs.

But why should we crucify you for it? After all everyone is their own individual.

So, have you read the original manga (AKA: Japanese comic books) of GSG yet?
There are quite a few chapters online in English, if you know where to look for them.

Look in the information section on top of the forum section stacks. It will have a link to some free online manga sites where you can read them without the fuzz of having to download them.

Hey, thanks! It means a lot to me!

As for the manga, I couldn't read those things to save my life! I can't say it's bad, seeing as I haven't read it that much of it, but it's just so confusing for me. I guess I'll have to learn to read better.

Also, what do you guys thing of my sig? I made just for use on this forum! Very Happy

Very nice Jay.

About the manga's though, you reading the ones from Mangafox.com yeah?

There is a trick to read those. Actually, quite a few of them are made by the lads that hang around here. (No doubt you might have noticed the 'Scanlator: Tommygunner70' on there, yeah, I and that scanlator are one and the same.)

While we translated the Japanese Text into English, we left the rest of the page as is. While we read the language, frames and ballon's from left to right, the Japanese do all those from Right to left. So start reading right first.

I've made an example out of the first page to show you what I mean.
It takes a little getting used too, but once your used to it, you will be trying to read every comic book like that. (I am guilty of that as well.)

WELCOME!!!

I started out on the uncuts of Yu Yu Hakusho, and the difference from other anime (yu Gi Oh, Naruto, Dragonball, etc) was what interested me. It wasn't really for kids.

Now, I'm not exactly hardcore anime, like some here (I mean you, Kisk!!) but I personally have a wide variety that I like, from Aoi Yori Aoshi (sofy&fuzzy), to Excel Saga and Pani Poni Dash! (wacky), to GSG, Black Lagoon, and Noir (violent and dark).

There ARE animes for anyone, you just have to find them. Black Lagoon is also dark and action based, though I can't, in good conscience, recommend it to someone under 17 for content reasons. Smile

Manga tend to be soooooo much more in-depth than the animes. Sad truth is that once you get used to reading right to left, you pick up a conventional book and get confused because you start from the back.

Again, WELCOME!!!, and enjoy the site.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Glocks are not the shit. Glocks can fail the same as any other gun. I've seen it personally, and have even heard first-hand accounts of something as basic as a slide-retaining pin snapping, the slide flying off. Get over the obsession and buy what fits your hand, your wallet, and ability.

Quoted for truth. Razz Razz Seriously though, the manga is better than the anime. And it covers a lot more story. Did you know the first anime series only cover two volumes of the manga? We currently have eleven volumes now. So go read it.

Black Lagoon is not the usual Happy manga. Heck it has alot more gore then GSG, and the characters in Black Lagoon will say fuck at least once or twice per episode. it rocks the Oscar Meyer Wiener!

Heh, that's something of a phrase we use here.
Instead of trying to persuade someone to do something, we just type that.

But... 50 mile radius of my Impenetrable Fortress of DOOM??

OBJECTION! (lol Phoenix Wright) that statement has several contradiction in it.

1) If it was constructed, it can be demolished.
2) Impenetrable Fortress, sounds great, but how did you get in? If you can get in, so can the enemy, one way or the other.
3) 'DOOM' is a game and a movie. Using the name in conjunction with a building doesn't make it unbeatable or awesome.
4) Fortresses are good for fighting off the enemy. but even so, Indians with bows and arrows were able to whip out a fortress with cowboys and guns. That said, no matter how awesome the fortress is, it will inevitably fall.

Ok, I'm done bull shitting now. Next? Razz

Oh gosh no. I've always opened books from the back even long before I started reading manga. Now that I've read a lot of manga, I always look at English comics as right-to-left until I realize nothing makes sense. Razz

Also, have you tried out The Nameless Mod yet? It's pretty win-tastic too. It takes place on the PlanetDeusEx forums, it's got a ton of new weapons, and best of all, every character has a voice! And that's just scratching the surface! I would highly recommend it to any self-respecting Deus Ex fan.

But if you're not feeling up to an epic adventure at the moment, but still looking for a few good lols, there's also the Malkavian Mod!

I have to agree almost. In the 600ish anime I've seen, I'd say about 70% of them were a waste of time. But there's still a good number that were at least entertaining enough to be worth it, at least more than anything I've seen on US tv. Anywho, welcome.

By the way, yes, Deus Ex IS full of win. If I COULD find my copy, I would have installed it long ago. I guess I'll have to settle for the PS2 version, which isn't as exploitable or awesome, but it works. Dragon Tooth Sword for the win.

Well, there is always Torrent downloads. having to wait for the download to finish beats playing the PS2 version by far.

That and its way easier to aim and line up those shots with a PC.

Hi there Jay,

Anime i found can be very disappointing a lot of the time, i find myself watching something that i really don't feel like watching.

But then again i find something that i really, really love. Something so good i will have to watch all the episodes as fast as i can and then watch it all again 3 times more. At the top of the list would be GSG
