Basic cast designs for the next chapter...

Umm, a bit wide, so dA version is here

Obviously subject to change, definately think I need to have another go at Lorenzo in particular.

Great Work as always, Alfisti!

One (OK two!) minor issue(s) though: Isn't Ferro a wee bit too short, and she should be upright and proper, not slouching.

Correct, on both counts. The height I shall do something about in the actual comic. The other... unfortunately I only cottoned onto the idea that maybe I should be giving people some personality here when I hit drawing Jethro (who was actually part of the third or fourth group I sketched)... Ferro however was one of the first and so got the "default" stance I use when I'm thinking about something else (in this case what she'd be wearing). Jean looking grumpy at Jethro was just a fluke

Cheers mate.

Jean is always Grumpy. He's not happy especially when others around him are.
Worst is when Fernando lives up to his "My day is not made until I ruin somebody else's day" and Jean is the target of that. Evil

Again, its great.

I recently thought that a series of "Title Pages" for my stories might be fun, and I've started the series off with
Pied-Rouge, drawn by Ignacio Di Meglio (the same fellow who did the cast images for Passion Lives Here). The cyborgs tend to get most of the attention in artwork so I thought that a piece focusing on a handler instead, so we have Jethro cooly waiting for the rendezvous and confident that Monty can do everything expected of her.

Probably not all at once, if only because my spare cash can only go so far (!), but that's the ultimate ambition, yes. I might do one more now - the latest story that I'm working on is devouring all my time (it's stopped me from taking part in a few interesting threads this week because I need to get the damn thing finished) and I'd like to have something to cap it off - but the rest will have to wait until I accumulate some money again.

You've got more willpower than I do, it seems. I've been struggling through my current story for a month, and whenever I run up against a wall I allow myself to get distracted by some thread on this site. At least I'm at work aboard ship so I can't get drunk.

Amen to that... I find I don't even really need to run into a wall to get distracted, just reach the end of one segment of work: Ok, finished that pannel, on to the next one. But first I'll just...

I guess it's hot where they are. He took a bit of artistic license with the characters, but I actually really like what he's done... even if Jethro reminds me of Luck Gandor from Baccano!

That's probably partly my fault too as I've not quite managed to nail his character design down yet. All the basics are there, but in terms of build and facial structure in particular he's still a bit fluid... annoying.

Flat with uni and comic-drawing (amoung others) at the moment, so coloured pics are going to be few and far between. In the meantime here's some random Monty scribbling with what appears to be some sort of Time Tunnel analogue:

Awesome as always, Alfisti.

When you do go back to color, Monty would probably look good in Lt. Gay Ellis' SHADO Moonbase outfit (from UFO):

She'd definitely look good in Maya's outfit from SPACE: 1999

Speaking of UFO, looks like Kara used to be part of SHADO. I found this pic on a UFO fan RPG site:

I'm normally not a fan of thigh-high boots, but they work really well. I originally thought something like white 1960's style "Go-Go" boots would look good with that, but I think the thigh-highs are classier. Something like the Emilio Pucci's that Kara wore in her Top Gear video:

Haha, yeah... I thought Kara must have spent some time talking fashion with Monty when I saw that outfit Honestly, the boots that I put with the YSL dress seem to bounce between being Go-go boots and thigh-highs depending on how I'm feeling at the time. Normally it does tend to be Go-gos though.

I doubt Monty would say "no" to those though.

Kara would certainly look up to Monty when it came to fashion. Yes Indeed

I've never really given any thought to putting Kara (or Claes, for that matter) in more classic designs like Monty favors, but considering how awesome Monty looks in them... Hmm...

My personal aesthetic is knee-high leather boots (real leather - I'm not a fan of "felted" leather like Chiaki Kudou is sporting below) which is why Kara so often wears those types of boots (and Claes, whenever I can make it possible). But that Emilio Pucci silk dress looked great and it was paired with those thigh boots so I figure Kara borrowed the boots from Priscilla or Petrushka. Wink

Well, Monty's built like a rake (making her, to quote Jethro, quoting Twiggy: The world's most expensive beanpole) so those 60s dresses and skinny-mod/ratpack-suits tend to work out nicely for her. It would be cool to see Kara or Claes sporting some retro looks though, particularly if Michele's getting the classics out... Monty in this case is dressing to suit Jethro's choice of mission car

As a side note: you tried buying a decent skinny suit lately? It's near-on fucking impossible, particularly in mens'-fashion backwater Brisbane.

Hmm, I can deal with felted leather, but only in very specific situations. The whole outfit has to be the sort of thing that needs them... and even then I only really like them as ankle boots, mid-calf-length max. Monty, as far as I can tell, seems to sit at the extreme ends of the shoe/boot spectrum. Go-go boots or thigh-highs with these little day-dress looks... or heels and dress-shoes for everything else (limited Audi space, dictates she can't carry a large range )

Michele is going to have his black 1972 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 "Daytona" spider shipped to Monaco for Jethro and Monty to use for their mission because he's positive that Monty is going to look magnificent in the passenger seat wearing a sun dress. On Cloud 9

And I'm sure that Monty sunning herself in a two-piece bikini on the Sky Deck of the Sunseeker 37 will be the focus of many a pair of binoculars. Yes Indeed

@Alfisti wrote:Hmm, I can deal with felted leather, but only in very specific situations.

Well Michele's fashion aesthetic for women is my fashion aesthetic for women and that means leather boots that end just below the knee and skirts and dresses that end well above the knee. Wink

And since Michele buys most of Kara's clothes, by default that becomes her fashion aesthetic, but she likes to look good (both for Michele and in general). So she has some six pairs of boots, but only one pair each of flats, loafers, heels and sneakers. She does have three pairs of sandals (two dress and one casual).

Claes, on the other hand, just finds it all overly complicated and annoying. Smile

Claes: "I shouldn't need a bloomin flow chart to pick out an outfit!"

Sadly Jethro'd have to advise Michele against shipping the Daytona over (as much as he'd love a go)... he's carefully trying to avoid having anything registered to SWA personnel present; which is why he'll be leaving the Allroad in the UK. He will however be, umm, "aquiring" an Austin Healey 3000:

Eh, my tastes in womens' fashion is so broad ranging I can't really nail it down. Monty caters to the better dressed/retro aspect, whilst Jesse caters for the hyper-relaxed socialist-student end. Unfortunately I've not got a character to do the really feminine-layered thing yet, but yeah

You certainly can't go wrong with an Austin-Healey roadster. Good

Has to be a Mk. III, however, since this is Monaco and that means power and luxury.

Whew... finished the raw lines and ink work for the next issue of comic last night. Will start colouring once a few other projects are knocked over. I think for the issue after this one I might try a greyscale marker render rather than colour. Seriously, the time this is taking is ridiculous.

Teaser panels:

I imagine introducing your cyborg to old friends (who know all your dirty secrets and are quite happy to share) is on a level of nerve-wracking similar to doing the same with a new girlfriend... with the added downside that "tear your head off" isn't just a figure of speech but a physical possiblity...

Yeah... I think it's just more frustration and impatience on my part. I mean, there's a story I want to tell... but what takes a writer a couple of weeks (particularly at the rate that folks like Voodoo seem to be able to churn out top-notch stuff) takes me months to write, design, then thumbnail, sketch, write it again, ink, colour, probably write it again, put in speech bubbles, SFX and edit.

I guess it's just a bit disheartening at times putting in the work but the whole project just seeming to crawl along. However I'm sure I'm not Robinson Crusoe in that.

I don't believe anyone is underestimating the magnitude of the project you've taken on here, mate. To be honest, it's the kind of project I (and I'm sure plenty of others) would love to have the fortitude to do, but we never even attempt.

If the teaser pics are any indication, it'll be well worth the wait. Jethro's expresssion in the third panel is classic.

Well, I guess I never really specified that this thread was soley for J&M, so (since I couldn't find a thread for his OCs) here's a request from maverick375 for his Jamie:

dA version

I imagined Jamie to look significantly more mature than Monty and more built (not difficult on the latter, just about eveyone's more built than Monty who is, to quote Jethro, quoting Twiggy: the world's most expensive beanpole). Apparently though guitars are not my strong suit sweat

Thanks to maverick for letting me have a go at this, and for putting up with my endless questions.

You did great, even the guitar is great.

To Quote Sir Mix-A-Lot, "34(c), 26, 36? Only of she's 5-3!" That Rachel when she started. She's grown to 5-6 (or so) in UN Resolution, but the measurements are the same. Francesca is another matter- Like Monty, maybe more so, thin as a rail and just as flat (OK maybe not that flat but still); possibly from being in the emaciated condition she was in when the good doctor Frankenstein found her in. She has lost her lolicon status since she was rebuilt.

Artists can draw my characters if they want, just let me know so I can put them into the OC Wiki. Its putting them into stories that I have issues about and that can be solved by asking and me giving a Yes or No answer. Most of the time it would be a Yes.

Cheers mate...

Well I wouldn't exactly throw Monty into the "loli" area either. When I was designing her I was thinking more down the lines of 60s fashion model Twiggy, who apparently had a similar body type to me: eats everything but none of it seems to stick. That's one of the things that pisses me off about the whole "ban skinny models" BS that's rolling around the popular press at the moment. Yes, some kids are starving themselves, which I'm dead against. But you can always tell the difference between someone who's anorexic and someone who's just built thin and I don't think it's fair to have a go at those who're in the latter category.

Ahem... tangent.

And I hear you on wanting people to ask first about using characters, like you I'd likely say "yes". It's not so much a matter of being tight about it but I think it's courteous. Plus there's just plain curiosity about where they might be going.

@Professor Voodoo wrote:Even if I hadn't read Maverick's story I'd be thinking "that's a girl with a lot on her mind." You did a great job capturing her in a contemplative mood.

Cheers mate, glad that came through. I was a little worried that she looked too melancholic rather than thoughtful or hopeful.

Good to know that some are in agreement on this.
Like playing with fire, I learned the hard way in not protecting my works online (stories, OCs, art, etc). Back in 2000 somebody (in China or thereabouts) took this image from my web comic and turned into a porn scene...
(original strip, not the porn copy)
Spoiler:
I eventually found out who it was and gave the info to the authorities. I have not heard from that rascal since.
People, I swear...

I hope no other artists go through this like I did. I do know that Miss Mab went through this about the same time as I did, and according to her, "You're not a great webcomic artist until somebody porns one of your characters." Lets just say I laughed at that.

So far so good.
