Same story, just part of me can't help but think that the Rangie might be a more appropriate option... seeing as they'll be driving up an Alp, in wintertime.

It may also be though just because it's been a long week and on such occasions I tend to gravitate toward cars more on the "luxury"/"brain out" end of the spectrum. Razz

Come to think of it, there's a distinct probability J+M won't be getting a say in the matter; what would Michele lend them if given the choice?

@tremec6speed wrote:Hey Alfisti, what do you think about these assorted pea coats for J Blacker?
I have actually toyed with giving Jethro a pea coat... he does currently have a driving coat which serves a similar role, and a heavy Russian army trench for really harsh conditions. Of the ones you've shown I think the second or third would be closest to the sort of thing he would wear.

Cool, I see that Monty has already a pee coat in her wardrobe. (I kinda knew Mister Blacker wasn't going for the last of the pea coats, Wink I just showed that one for fun)
Anyway, I think I'll have my own handlers Sal use the classic pea coat one and Gunther the grey an black combo every now and then. head bang

@Alfisti wrote:Michele has a Holland & Holland Range Rover? Hmm... didn't realise that.

I figure it's a good vehicle for him to have since so many super villains seem to have large country estates and like to shoot things.

Also, Laine likes it because she gets to dress up as Lala Ward:

They can have anything they want.

Kara: "Anything but the Veyron Sang Bleu Grand Sport, of course."

Claes: "I recommend the Peugeot 905B."

Laine: "Yeah, French is good."

Michele: ...ugh.

@tremec6speed wrote:Hey Alfisti, what do you think about these assorted pea coats for J Blacker?

I like the first one, myself, but I agree the second one works for Jethro.

I was thinking more along the lines if, say Ferro approached Michele and asked him to select a car for J+M.

Very much so. I went to buy shoes, but spent at least half my time window shopping for Monty (Jethro's easy, he wears similar things to me, so that's a non-issue). Walk past window, stop, backup a few paces, spend a couple of minutes noting down elements I like there, rinse, wash, repeat.

Yeah...since my OC is eleven that doesn't happen for me. If there was a weird looking guy hanging around the girls' clothing department security would most definitely be called.

I can see how that could be awkward, and I'm not certain the "I'm writing a story" excuse would cut it.

I wonder how Elio deals with it... or does he just send Priscilla.

A doc I was watching a few days ago spoke of how (whilst researching for Kiki's Delivery Service) Hayao Miyazaki spent an entire day sitting on a bench studying how girls' skirts moved. Then again...that's Japan, you can get away with that shit.
I wonder how Elio deals with it... or does he just send Priscilla.
Now that's what I need to write a story about...Elio going "Marisa clothes" shopping. I can see him driving the sales girls crazy...asking a thousand questions they couldn't possibly know the answer to then buying everything off the discount rack.

Ok, that I can probably work with for a start... I take it you're a bit hazy on their physical looks still then? If you're having trouble working them out in your mind though (just in general) it might be worth knocking out a thread in the Original Characters area.

As to Jethro and Doctor Who... I honestly don't know actually, though I'd be lying if there wasn't a certain amount of The Doctor (particularly Matt Smith's 11) in his personality makeup. I think it's probably something he'd enjoy if he caught it, but wouldn't go out of his way to make sure he watched it every week. However, the TARDIS is iconic, iconic enough for him to find TARDIS socks amusing. Plus of course they represent an open opportunity to wind his cyborg up over something harmless.

She'd need longer hair, I think.
I do like the necklkace as well, I'd need another look but it might pair alright with the bracelet from that Qantas mag page.

As to the earrings; they're not actually that large in real life. That said: a mate of mine from uni has much shorter hair than Monty and a tendency to wear these massive, swinging chandeliers of metal and enamel costume work. Personally I think it looks fantastic so I feel the Canturi jobs could work for Monty. Razz

The earrings in question as this part of the conversation has been moved to another thread.

I do however think they'd need the necklace or some other, similar ornamet to balance them.

I'm trying to imagine Monty is a room full of models, having to somehow make guarded and slightly catty girl talk.

Yeah... that's going to end well...

@tremec6speed wrote:A mine site, Padania's uranium dirty bomb plans perhaps?

Well, there's easier ways to get uranium than digging it out of the ground yourself... I did toy/am still toying with a blood diamonds story line, or something similar. Alternately Saipem are heavily involved with the LNG development going on over here (and I did leave an LNG opening for myself in an earlier chapter)... Of course it would be more civil earthworks rather than mining, but hey: we use the same toys.

@tremec6speed wrote:Another nation (or secret outfit/society) trying to recruit J&M?
Funny you should mention that: one of the earlier ideas I had for Jethro was that he did not in-fact leave MI6 at all, but had been inserted into the SWA as a sleeper: with the basic task of getting hold of a cyborg and hanging onto her until (via other channels) the Brits could aquire/develop enough technology to start their own cyborg scheme. He'd defect, brining Monty and their experience together with him to form the core of a new organisation.

I've pretty much abandoned that one... but now that I think about it, what might be fun would be to have Jethro accused of being a sleeper agent, and he and Monty have to run around and prove his innocence, possibly with the SWA in hot pursuit.... hmmm.

Yo.

So I was looking at the work you've done for Caterina, and I realized that a lot of is good for a formal/semi-formal setting, but there isn't much that's suitable for a casual meeting with a source. Do you think you could come up with something that's more suited for tossing on to go out grocery shopping or a jaunt to the local gelato stand?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I fear you an I may have differing opinions on what constitutes "casual"... a solid chunk of what we came up with last time I would consider "casual" and perfectly suited for doing things like going down to the local deli.

Jokes aside though, it is worth remembering that you're in Italy now and the Europeans tend to maintain a somewhat better standard of dress than many English speaking nations. To paraphrase a book I was reading recently: Americans (and, by extension the English speaking world I guess as it's all fairly simliar in its dress sense - A) seem to view the street and sidewalk as a sort of anonymous backstage to where they are actually headed, and so women will wear sneakers to work, only pulling on heels once they reach the office. The European approach however (in this case it was the French, but you could extend it to Italy) seems to be that you are on stage the moment you walk out your front door.

That said, I guess Monty does have her "around the house" look which is, by extension and with the addition of a few accessories (belt and scarf), the barest minimum she'd be willing to be viewed in public wearing.

I don't really have time to take on any drawing projects at the moment but if you were looking for suggestions... maybe throw a fitted vintage tee over the skinny jeans rather than the button downs? Or maybe a brenton stripe shirt which is always a classic... or a turtle neck for cooler months?

I dunno mate, you're starting to hit as casual as I'm capable of thinking before venturing into "not outside the house"... and even then I'm a firm believer in not wearing anything inside you wouldn't be seen outside in.

Ah, that is a bit of a problem isn't it? Well, at least I know one thing: If I get a chance to study abroad, I'm going to have to take a serious look at my wardrobe before classes start.

I guess... I'm not sure. I think the idea I was thinking of had more to do with "tone" rather than "appearance". A lot of different clothes are all at the same level of presentability, but an untucked dress-shirt and slacks will pull off a much different look from, say, a sundress. I'm not sure if that's really what I mean, but I guess the reason I asked you was that it felt like Caterina's current wardrobe is much more suited to impressing others before kicking ass rather than being small and harmless to set them off guard.

Does any of this make sense? Puzzled

Depends on where you're going. To be fair, in Australia I probably have a higher standard of dress than most and live in a more style-concious area.

Umm... sort of? I think?

So you're looking for something a bit more girly or childish? Something to make Caterina a meek little girl in the eyes of the viewer or at least drop her age a bit to something more likely to be hanging on an adult's coat tails?

Yes, precisely! You're a mindreader, mate. Something that she would wear on a subterfuge mission where she'd be the accessory rather than the weapon. Clothing that would make her the cute little girl rather than the confident young lady.

Here's a useful one for those trying to work out what their handlers are wearing; or trying to find ways to describe it. A fast guide to suit-style basics, because "suit" is such a broad term:

For the record: Jethro's (and by extension Monty's.... and mine for that matter - we're all slender to skinny) suiting tends to be in the British tradition. Usually in tones of grey and charcoal, usually fairly plain and two button and usually with a black, skinny tie. Kisk's Michele, for example, however I draw in a more Italianate cut, often with a bit more colour; say a coloured tie of navy fabric.

Qantas launched it's new uniforms today. Not totally sold on the pink, but definitely an improvement on the old (I always hated that print dress):

Also, if the SWA ever comes to an end or she's thrown out, Kara may need to get a job with them... at least some parts of her outfit wouldn't change:

I did note they went back to the belt-less suit pants in Skyfall for Daniel Craig... not to mention giving Moneypenny a Rolex Explorer (which I guess was the best they could manage as Omega has dibs on Bond's wrist these days).

Re: Alfisti's Outfitters

So, apparently going out to site makes me want to draw evening wear...

Monty wears: "Cubism" earrings by Canturi|Rolex Submariner wrist watch|dress, shoes & necklace by Alfisti.

It's been four years now, so it's probably about time I gave Monty a proper evening gown, rather than having her make do with her LBD for all occasions.

For those interested I figured this could be made up of two panels (not counting the shear fabrics), one of a satin or something with a similar finish and one with a glossier sheen. Then it's just a matter of cutting them right to construct the form. Though it's not shown in the details here (it is in sketches), the two fabrics are joined behind her neck with a polished steel ring rather than a stitched seam, leaving her back exposed until the two side panels sweep back around to cross at her mid to lower back.

I'm quite glad you both landed on elegant/classy. Personally I think it's a look Monty can pull off without it becoming slutty or trashy, but part of me was expecting to get slapped for making it all so revealing.

Frankly, it's how she carries herself. Monty strikes me as someone who presents an aura of 100% self-confidence when in public so it is quite clear that she is not wearing it as a "hey! look at me!" attention grab.

Monty: "Unlike a certain other cyborg I can think of..."

Kara: "I heard that!"

Monty: "Try to take a hint from how your handler works a room."

Honestly, having the background a "red carpet shot" works perfectly for her.

I forgot, is it okay if I drop in questions on fashion and clothing to here?

And if so, who would be a good company/designer to look at for modern/futuristic jewelry choices, specifically in the field of brooches/broaches and/or hairpins? I'm looking for something fairly generic that can be applied to a number of ensembles without clashing but is still suitable for both casual and formal(ish) wear.

I recommend you start a new thread in the Apparel forum as, in the past, this thread has become very off-topic with such discussions and I've had to prune it to try and bring it back to the focus on Alfisti's OCs.
