Thescarredman wrote:Great interview, MP. I do love it when you guys introduce a lighthearted OC. Becky sounds like a rip; I bet her adventures will have the readers slapping their thighs. But where on earth did she pick up that accent?

Well, by origin, she's a Canadian cowgirl from Calgary, which is basically the Canuck version of Texas. Her handler or 'Ma', Cindy, is actually from Texas, and speaks with a country/southern drawl. If I had to attempt an explanation, I would say Becky got that particular accent from spending a lot of time around Cindy, wanting to emulate her as well as pass herself off as Cindy's daughter.

As for adventures, they're pretty likely to be serious, but her appearances so far have been limited to a single scene where complaints about her slow lap times in swim class inadvertently led to the aforementioned groping by Piero's Gina.

Re: Interview with a Cyborg

Post by Three Dog on Wed 25 Jul 2012 - 4:59

It had been a long week, and Dr. Bianchi had done so many interviews that he was running on automatic. Thankfully, he only had more person left to interview for today.

Tsuki walked into an office and the doctor gestured at the chair, “prego, si accomodi.”

Tsuki sat in the chair, her feet dangling, “Um, is it alright if we speak English? I don’t speak Italian.”

The doctor seemed a little taken back, “Why, of course, of course. I’m Dr. Bianchi by the way.”

“Thank you.”

“Okay, let’s begin. And remember to speak clearly into the microphone.”

“Yes, sir.”

The doctor held up a clipboard, “First question: Can you tell me your name and a little about your role in Section 2?”

“My name is Private Charlotte Tsuki, but everyone just calls me Tsuki. I don’t work for Section 2, I don’t even work for Italy. I’m an Australian cyborg, part of the Kelly Gang.” Tsuki held a hand up to her mouth, eyes going wide, “I wasn’t meant to say that.”

“It’s fine,” her handler’s voice said, coming from the speaker in the wall. Dr. Bianchi knew that Ellen was behind the one way glass, but Tsuki was looking around for her handler, “just answer his questions truthfully. No secrets.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“What’s this ‘Kelly Gang’?”

“It’s the code name for the cyborg program, because we dress up in armour just like Ned Kelly did.”

“Alright. Question two: Can you tell us about your conditioning?”

Tsuki shook her head, “Mm-mm. I don’t what that is. Sorry, sir.”

“No, no, that’s fine,” Dr. Bianchi said reassuringly. “Question three: how do you feel about your handler? What is your relationship with him like?”

Tsuki giggled, “You just called Ellen a boy.” She giggled some more before calming herself, “she’s my handler.”

“I don’t think you understand the question, I want to know how she treats you. Is it like a sister, or a mother, or a subordinate?”

Tsuki tilted her head, he expression puzzled, “she’s my handler.”

“Okay, moving on. Question four: what are your favourite kinds of missions?”

“I like going a long way from the base, because that means I get to ride in a helicopter or plane. And when we get to go swimming. Aside from that, clearing out safe houses is the simplest.”

“Question five: what kind of missions do you dislike?”

“I don’t like going undercover. All I can take with me is my PPK, I feel like I can’t protect Miss Gibson or the rest of the team properly. I sometimes get to take my M9* and an MP5 though, so it isn’t too bad.”

“Question six: How do you like life in the SWA dormitory.”

“I don’t live in the dormitory, I live in my own room back at El Elamain. It’s marked with a V on the door.” Tsuki grinned, “I like it. I have a place to put all my stuff, I get to listen to the radio, read my books, play my flute, and to practice tying up my shoes without any distractions.”

“Question seven: Do you get along with your room-mate?”

“I don’t have one. I get along well with the other members of the Kelly Gang though. Sergeant Damon is in charge, and can be strict sometimes, but he does it because he cares. And Corporal Weatra looks a bit scary, and he doesn’t say much, but he’s a really nice person. He taught me how to find bush tucker.”

“Question eight: how do you like the dining hall? Do you have a favourite food?”

“I really like the dining hall here; I get to eat lots of different food. We only have a mess hall back at the base, but the food there can be nice as well. I really like scones. Scones with jam and cream.” She licked her lips.

“Question nine: What really grosses you out (not just food)?”

“Vegetables, They’re so yucky.”

“Question ten: Is there one thing you would really like to do, but your handler won’t let you?”

“I would like to have some more time off, to read books and listen to the radio. But it’s okay; I know what I was made to fight, not to relax. I’d also like to keep my weapons in my room too, but it’s not allowed.”

Dr. Bianchi looked up from his clip board, “what do you mean by, “you were made to fight, not to relax”?”

“I’m a soldier,” Tsuki replied, as if explaining something that was clearly obvious.

Dr. Bianchi made a note on the board, “Okay then. Question eleven: Where would you like to spend you next vacation? And have you been there before?”

“I don’t get to go on holiday. I do get to have the weekend off every two months and I just sit in my room though. Does that count?”

Dr. Bianchi nodded, “Hmm, question twelve: Triela’s teddy bear collection; cool or geeky?”

“Is Triela that friendly blond girl? I didn’t know she had a teddy bear collection; think she’ll let me see them?”

Dr. Bianchi smiled, “I’m meant to be the one asking questions you know.”

“Sorry, sir.”

“No, it’s fine. Let’s continue. Question thirteen: Do you have a favourite colour?”

“Hmm… my favourite writer is David Eddings… and my favourite book of his was orange… so I guess orange.”

“Question fourteen: Aside from your handler, is there an adult (agency or outside) that you admire?”

“Ce’Nedra.”

“Who?”

“She’s Garrion’s wife in the David Eddings books. Oh, and Polgara, and Belgarath, and Barak, and ”

“O-kay. Last question: If you could choose, how would you like to die?

The girl began to shake. “I-I’m not go-going to d-d-die.” She jumped off the chair and shook her fist in rage, “I’ve trained too hard to die, put in too much effort, done too much work! I. Will. Not. Die! Why do you think I did all that killing?! If a soldier doesn’t kill, she dies! W-”

Ellen burst in and grabbed Tsuki by the shoulders, nearly down to look her in the eye, “hey, just relax kiddo, calm down. No one’s going to be killed, okay. This is a free fire zone. Just calm down.”

Tsuki took a few deep breaths, “yes, ma’am.” She looked at her feet, ashamed from losing control.

Ellen looked at Dr. Bianchi, “is that all?”

He nodded.

Ellen stood up and put and hand on Tsuki’s back, escorting her out, “let’s go find Triela and see if she’ll show you her teddy bears.”

David Eddings... He was The Belgariad right. I read The
Magician and then that one after the other. They're very similar sorts of books
and I get terribly confused between the two.

I take it your Kelly Gang is run a bit more along military lines?

Yeah, I figure I can have them doing more insidiouse stuff that way. Tsuki being the only 'surviving' subject out of ten. The others... it was unpleasant. Suffice to say, she gets a handler becuase the Italian cyborgs have handler and nothing horrible has happened to them (or they have done to others).

A little but, yeah. Knowing only killing and having all her cybernetic comrades meeting horrible fates, then having that wiped and but still present in teh subconcious, has done a bit of damage.

Re: Interview with a Cyborg

Post by dragonfire238 on Mon 30 Jul 2012 - 22:19

Abigail walks into the room and does a quick 360 scan, she then sits down in the chair provided and looks at the interviewer.

1. Hello, can you tell us your name and a little about your role in Section 2?

Yes I am Abigail Casey Generation 2 cyborg of the SWA, I was born in the United States but after my mother died three years ago I moved here to Italy with my father. I have been active for two months now after I was almost killed trying to protect a new friend that I made, who happened to be a cyborg, from an explosion… ah doc are you alright?

The doctor who was staring aw struck quickly recomposed himself.

“yes I am fine I’m just amazed that you still retain your memories from your life prior to being a cyborg”

Well doc. That is because unlike many of my “sisters” she makes quotations with her fingers I actually chose this life and my “handler” more quotation marks requested that I keep them and not become a brainwashed bimbo. Ah no offence to the other gals, I understand that most of them brought here after some very traumatizing experiences.

“ok umm next question”
2. Can you tell us about your conditioning?

Honestly I don't really know too much about it, I do know that I get less than the least conditioned Generation 1, who ever that might be, but I don’t know how much less. I am sure that if I wanted to I could find out, but currently I don’t care. For now it is doing its job fine, and that is keeping me relatively sane.

3. How do you feel about your handler? What is your relationship with him like?

My handler I trust him with my life and then some, I love him in a platonic sense because not only is he my handler but also my biological father, and yes[/b] at first he was way against me becoming what I am and it took some convincing on my part to get him to agree, I guess it helped that I was lying in a hospital bed barely hanging to life by a thread, and he was still partially in shock of what happened. He did agree with a few conditions however which I shall not divulge.

4. What are your favorite kinds of missions?

Ooh that is a tough one I haven’t really been on many but I guess any mission where I can go around unnoticed and take out a bunch of enemies without being seen, that is my specialty after all infiltration and silent destruction.

5. What kind of missions do you dislike?

By far and without a doubt any mission that is FUBAR from the getko especially if faulty intel is involved or bad comms.

6. How do you like life in the SWA dormitory?[/b]

Meh it’s not bad it actually can be a lot of fun sometimes. But I’m still fairly new and haven’t really met too many of the other cyborgs yet.

7. Do you get along with your room-mate?

well i dont really have at the moment but i was told that i would get one soon, i wonder what she will be like

8. How do you like the dining hall? Do you have a favorite food?

It reminds me of the cafeteria food from my old school except much better, and though the food there is good the one thing I like the most is the lasagna, which they have every few days or so and it really starting to get old for me. What I really wish they had, that I haven’t told anyone about yet, is canned ravioli, now that I can never get tired of.
9. What really grosses you out (not just food)?

Urgh she shudders a bit let’s just say that one of my first missions as a cyborg was to assassinate a guy while he was leaving a donation at a cryobank and leave it at that, her eye twitches and she shudders again urgh

10. Is there one thing you would really like to do, but your handler won't let you?

Umm will he be reading this?

“No this is purely confidential”

Okay, well there are actually three things that I would love to do. one to get my belly button pierced, two is to enter a hotdog eating contest and see if I could win, and third is something I have been wanting to learn how to do since I was little, I have always wanted to see the world from under the water and I don’t mean just snorkeling I mean staying under water for a long period of time and just admiring the sites of the world from a different perspective.

11. Where would you like to spend your next vacation? Have you been there before?

I would love to explore the catacombs under Paris and no I haven’t been there but my father has.

12. Triela's teddy bear collection; cool or geeky?

To each their own I guess I can’t really say much about it, those bears are from her handler so of course they are very special to her heck I’m thinking about starting a collection soon I just don’t know of what yet.

13. Do you have a favorite color?

Red and not just any red but blood red, it has been my favorite since before being a cyborg

14. Aside from your handler, is there an adult (agency or outside) that you admire?

None that I can think of at the moment

15. If you could chose, how would you like to die?

Quick and painless, if I am felled by the enemy then with no evidence.

1. Hello, can you tell us your name and a little about your role in Section 2?
My name is Tara, and I am a generation 2 cyborg. I am classed as a Marksman/Scout, and perform recon and assassinations.
2. Can you tell us about your conditioning?
You know what? I honestly don't know how much I have. *shrugs* That said, I dunno if I could tell ya anyways.
3. How do you feel about your handler? What is your relationship with him like?
First off, my handler is female. To answer your question, she's sweet, caring, and everything I could ask for in a handler.
4. What are your favorite kinds of missions?
Any mission where I can sneak around, or snipe.
5. What kind of missions do you dislike?
Ugh. *taps chin in thought* Zero kill operations, like scouting and such.
6. How do you like life in the SWA dormitory?
It's great, I've got some of my stuff set up in there, it's got a good view, it's really cool.
7. Do you get along with your room-mate?
I haven't seen too much of her lately.
8. How do you like the dining hall? Do you have a favorite food?
Dining hall? I love it, you should try their chicken cordon bleu. Good stuff.
9. What really grosses you out (not just food)?
I honestly don't know, I mean, slimy stuff could be one.
10. Is there one thing you would really like to do, but your handler won't let you?
I'd like to have a boyfriend.
11. Where would you like to spend your next vacation? Have you been there before?
Ooh! Ooh! *squees* Monaco! I've only been there once.
12. Triela's teddy bear collection; cool or geeky?
Hey, if I can have a collection of Firefly stuff, she can have her bears. It's cool, though.
13. Do you have a favorite color?
Colors....hmmm. If camouflage counts, then I'll take it.
14. Aside from your handler, is there an adult (agency or outside) that you admire?
Tony Stark, hehe. But in all reality? I'd have to say my.......wait....I didn't know I. Oh. Umm. I got lost.
15. If you could chose, how would you like to die?
At the hands of another sniper. Better to die at the hands of someone with a similar trade as yourself than with someone who you can't relate with.

Re: Interview with a Cyborg

Post by Three Dog on Mon 29 Oct 2012 - 5:03

One morning, Heike von Evaline was wandering around Dr. Bianchi’s office when she came across a questionnaire. Having nothing better to, she sat down in Dr. Bianchi’s chair and put her feet on the table. Carefully, she rummaged through his drawers and found the pen he always liked to use; it had something about some university or medical school or something on it. She stuck the pen in her mouth and chewed on the end as she thought about her answers.

1. Hello, can you tell us your name and a little about your role in Section 2?

My name is Heike von Evaline and my role in Section 2 is to not do anything. That’s not true, I don’t actually have a role, I’m not even allowed to walk around, but who’s going to stop me, Johnny McDoesn’t-Exist?

2. Can you tell us about your conditioning?

You think you would give me more to try and control me, wouldn’t you? But then again, I just got angry last time. Nearly killed four people. Actually killed one. That was a fun day.

3. How do you feel about your handler? What is your relationship with him/her like?

I don’t have one. If I did, I would want him to be suave, someone with a lot of stamina, you know, someone who can take me. And someone that can take a hit too, I wouldn’t want him to die on me every time I got a little upset with him. If it was a woman… let’s just say she wouldn’t survive past our first mission.

4. What are your favourite kinds of missions?

You bastards have never let me go on any missions, though that doesn’t stop me from trying to go. The ones where I kill people in different ways are always fun. But then again, they’re not officially missions, more like me sneaking out and killing a bunch of terrorists I got the addresses for. I’m not bragging or anything, but my kill count is pretty impressive.

5. What kind of missions do you dislike?

I don’t get sent on missions, and I’ve never left the Agency compound and not killed anyone, so I guess that would be a mission I don’t like, one where I don’t get to kill anyone would be pretty shit.

6. How do you like life in the SWA dormitory?

It sucks donkey-fucking balls. I mean do you really need armed guards at my door? I can get away even with them there so why not just save the manpower (and possible law suits if you get another guard that gives me shit and has ‘fragile’ bones)?

7. Do you get along with your room-mate?

Well, physically, I have the room to myself. Mentally, I share it with three other people. Who I have never met. And occupy this body when I don’t. We stay away from each other’s stuff, and sometimes the one know as Mercedes leaves notes.

8. How do you like the dining hall? Do you have a favourite food?

Anything with a face. I only eat meat. And seafood IS NOT meat, just for the record.

9. What really grosses you out (not just food)?

Nothing grosses me out. Plenty of stuff annoys me and I’d rather not have to deal with a lot of people, but nothing grosses me out.

10. Is there one thing you would really like to do, but your handler won't let you?

Considering I don’t have a handler, this question is moot. However, if you were to ask is there anything Jean doesn’t let me do, that’s a different matter. One: I’m not allowed to leave the Agency. Two: I’m not supposed to KILL anyone or anything. Three: No live fire exercises in the compound. Four: No explosive ordinance outside of the designated areas. Five: No harassing the other cyborgs or personnel.
Bianchi has some rules as well but they boil down to, “Don’t hurt anyone. Don’t kill anyone. Don’t fuck anyone.”

11. Where would you like to spend your next vacation? Have you been there before?

Some African country with a nice little civil war that has plenty of people that won’t be missed. And no, no I have not been there before; I’m not ‘allowed’ to leave the Agency.

12. Triela's teddy bear collection; cool or geeky?

Triela? Who the fuck is Triela?! Oh yeah, she’s the short blond one with the pony tails and the kraut for a handler, both of whom died at New Trino. First Generation if I’m not mistaken. Yeah, I don’t like her, I don’t like anyone. Therefore her collection is immature, childish, and stupid.

13. Do you have a favourite colour?

Red, crimson, sanguine. Anything the colour of blood.

14. Aside from your handler, is there an adult (agency or outside) that you admire?

Genghis Khan, Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Attila the Hun, Grigori Rasputin, Joseph Kony, Beelzebub, Dracula, Ming the Merciless, Jim Jefferies, and those French guys and the Rabbit from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

15. If you could chose, how would you like to die?

I came into this world kicking and screaming, covered in someone else’s blood, I’m going out the same god damn way.

Down the bottom of the questionnaire, Heike left a note saying, “I filled this out for you doc, should help you build my physiological profile when the murders start. Love, the badass mother fucker.”

It's one of Victoria's split personalities from GsG:ES. 20 years on and Vicotria has got a bit of mental scarring. Couple that the conditioning and a slight mental disorder appeared. Basically Victoria split into herself, her dead handler, he dead best friend, and a primal version of all her pent up rage and anger.

Laughing Thanks. Someone gave the name Evaline (MP5 I think but I may be mistaken), and I wanted and excuse to use "von" in a name. And "Heike" is just one of those names that sounds like a bad guy's name Evil

Re: Interview with a Cyborg

Post by Three Dog on Fri 2 Nov 2012 - 4:50

1. Hello, can you tell us your name and a little about your role in Section 2?

Oberleutnant Crash and I do not work for the Italian government. I’m in the Deutsches Heer, Panzer XII Program, also known as the 99th Panzer Brigade to those without clearance. I’m the leader of the fifth squad, Black Widows. I’m also the designated driver, one of the best there is. Others in my squad don’t think so, but I’d like to see other pilots and drivers crash in such a way that everybody survives every time. For the moment though I’m a liaison between you and the 99th Panzer as well as a consultant on the cyborg training.

2. Can you tell us about your conditioning?

No, it’s classified.

3. How do you feel about your handler? What is your relationship with him/her like?

Handler? What are we, kids? I understand some of the Alphas look young, but they’re older than the rest of us, and we’re all over nineteen, so I find it a little insulting that you think we need someone to look after us. I don’t know how you guys operate but the Panzers are trained soldiers and mature adults.

4. What are your favourite kinds of missions?

I do what I’m told to do, whether I like it or not. If I get to travel at over mach 2 though it’s a good day. A very rare, but good.

5. What kind of missions do you dislike?

Ones that don’t run smoothly. I know Oppenheimer likes to improvise but it’s not her team, it’s mine, and I don’t like improvising.

6. How do you like life in the SWA dormitory?

It’s not too bad. I had a room to myself back in Germany but this place is nice too I guess. Plenty of friendly people around here as well, like those Triela and Claes girls, they’re good to talk to. Though none of them seem to like gambling, I don’t like that much.

7. Do you get along with your room-mate?

I’ve always got along with Runner and Epsilon Sigma. Having to share a room with them doesn’t change that. Smells like cigarettes though.

8. How do you like the dining hall? Do you have a favourite food?

The dining hall setup is… interesting, thought I have yet to be served schnitzel, which is my favourite food. Back in Germany, I could get it because I was an officer. Here, they don’t give a toss about my rank which is a little upsetting.

9. What really grosses you out (not just food)?

Engine oil and petrol. A couple of times I crashed and somehow managed to get engine oil everywhere. Hours to wash the taste out my mouth and weeks to get it all out of my hand.

10. Is there one thing you would really like to do, but your handler won't let you?

Considering that I don’t have a handler, wouldn’t asking this be a little on the pointless side of things. But, if you must know something that is equivalent, command won’t let me pilot an SR-71 or any jet fighters. Something about them being too expensive for me to just crash.

11. Where would you like to spend your next vacation? Have you been there before?

Las Vegas. No, never been there. I’d also need a pretty hefty loan so that I can stay for a few days. I’m pretty sure I’m one of the world’s unluckiest people, but that just means I’ve got to win big eventually, right?

12. Triela's teddy bear collection; cool or geeky?

I haven’t seen it yet. Didn’t know it existed till now. I’ll have to check it when I can, sounds pretty cool.

13. Do you have a favourite colour?

No.

14. Aside from your handler, is there an adult (agency or outside) that you admire?

Hmm… no one that comes to mind.

15. If you could chose, how would you like to die?

Crashing an SR-71 packed with highly combustible, highly unstable materials into the ammo dump of a battleship.

Re: Interview with a Cyborg

Post by Three Dog on Fri 2 Nov 2012 - 8:02

1. Hello, can you tell us your name and a little about your role in Section 2?

Oberstabsfeldwebel Oppenheimer of the 99th Panzer Brigade. My current role in this Section of Two is to liaise and be available for consultation by both your scientists and handlers alike in matters of science and combat.

2. Can you tell us about your conditioning?

Yes. Yes I can. Will I though?! No. No I won’t.

3. How do you feel about your handler? What is your relationship with him/her like?

I feel like in an alternate universe I have a handler, and that my relationship is good. But in another universe our relationship is bad. But, in a third alternate universe, I am a dragon and my handler is a Chupacabra. However, we are currently in this universe. In this universe I do not have this “handler” of which you spake. Instead I operate in a well trained military unit under the command of Oberleutnant Crash. I get along with her quite well. Most of the time.

4. What are your favourite kinds of missions?

I like missions where I can gather materials for my… um… extra curricular activities. It’s not so much that I’m not allowed to gather supplies or anything, it’s just that some of my… for lack of a better word ‘experiments’ are frowned upon. Just for the record, I’ve never hurt anyone with my ‘experiments’, remember that.

5. What kind of missions do you dislike?

When I get shot. It hurts, it hurts, it hurts. I don’t care what the others say, I don’t care that I’m I cyborg and that my system gets flooded with all sorts of drugs and chemicls. It. Hurts.

6. How do you like life in the SWA dormitory?

Curfews are a little strict for my liking, but the bedding is soft… and there are a lot of resources for me to gather.

7. Do you get along with your room-mate?

Like I said before, I get along well with the Oberleutnant, but Epsilon Sigma… she just stands in the corner, grimacing and staring, smoking her cigarettes one after another, not saying a word, being silent, still. Watching over like a silent vigil. Keeping us safe, keeping any possible danger at bay… she freaks me out. Handy in a fire fight, but damn scary.

8. How do you like the dining hall? Do you have a favourite food?

I like the dining hall, get to chat with your Italian cyborgs. They’re an interesting bunch. That little blond one R… R… Rico! Yeah, Rico is more than happy to help me with some… stuff. And food, well… I like porridge, or ‘gruel’ as some other less refined people like to call it.

9. What really grosses you out (not just food)?

Cats. I hate them, I hate them, I hate them. I’m surprises I wasn’t called Schrödinger considering my disgust for the creatures and our common desire to stick them in a box to be both dead and alive.

10. Is there one thing you would really like to do, but your handler won't let you?

Need I discuss the mutli-verse theory again? The gist of it is the bosses upstairs don’t want me nuking things. That, I understand, it’s completely reasonable; I don’t want to nuke things either. However, they also won’t let me construct a low yield nuclear device. What’s so wrong with making one if I’m not going to set it off? All I need is a bit of fissile material, only a kilo or two. But no, it’s too dangerous they say. Bunch of philistines and hypocrites!

11. Where would you like to spend your next vacation? Have you been there before?

The large hadron collider in Geneva, Switzerland. As to part 2 of this question, I’m not telling you, so that I have both been there and not been there.

12. Triela's teddy bear collection; cool or geeky?

I only saw it once. Let’s just say Claes and Triela don’t let me into the room anymore. More by Triela’s order than Claes’, I get along quite well with Claes. All I did was make one joke about doing an experiment on her bears and that was it! Out of the room! Forbidden entry! Banished! Barred! Kicked out! Driven away!

13. Do you have a favourite colour?

Its wavelength is between five-hundred-twenty and five-hundred-seventy nanometres, and its frequency is approximately between five-hundred-seventy-five and five-hundred-twenty-five terahertz.

14. Aside from your handler, is there an adult (agency or outside) that you admire?

Oh, all the great scientists; Newton, Einstein, Schrödinger, Darwin, Tesla, et-cetera, et-cetera.

15. If you could chose, how would you like to die?

Something for the advancement of science.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

[The record should show that the subject had to repeatedly be reminded that she was under orders to answer all questions and body language would indicate displeasure and hostility towards interviewer]

1. Hello, can you tell us your name and a little about your role in Section 2?

Hauptfeldwebel Epsilon Sigma. Liaison and consultant.

2. Can you tell us about your conditioning?

No.

3. How do you feel about your handler? What is your relationship with him/her like?

Don’t have one.

4. What are your favourite kinds of missions?

Killing.

5. What kind of missions do you dislike?

Not killing.

6. How do you like life in the SWA dormitory?

Adequate.

7. Do you get along with your room-mate?

Yes.

8. How do you like the dining hall? Do you have a favourite food?

No. No.

9. What really grosses you out (not just food)?

Nothing.

10. Is there one thing you would really like to do, but your handler won't let you?

Question is invalid.

11. Where would you like to spend your next vacation? Have you been there before?

Nowhere. No.

12. Triela's teddy bear collection; cool or geeky?

Irrelevant. [Refused to elaborate]

13. Do you have a favourite colour?

No.

14. Aside from your handler, is there an adult (agency or outside) that you admire?

No.

15. If you could chose, how would you like to die?

Re: Interview with a Cyborg

Post by Three Dog on Sun 4 Nov 2012 - 2:01

1. Hello, can you tell us your name and a little about your role in Section 2?

My name is Bear and I hold the rank of Jäger. As for what I’m doing in Section 2, well… you could say I’m on a forced vacation. Bloody Brigadegeneral thinks I need a break. At least the Hauptmann was against it, but the Brigadegeneral decided it wasn’t a suggestion anymore and made it an order. What can you do, eh? He’s the boss after all. And I know he means well. I once heard us Jerry cyborgs being called his daughters. The Brigadegeneral was there too, and he didn’t appear to deny it in any way. It gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside, you know?

2. Can you tell us about your conditioning?

Not allowed to I’m afraid. Standing orders are not to divulge any technology or information relating of or to the functionality of the cybernetic units. In all honesty I don’t know much about it, I just take the cocktail they give me.

3. How do you feel about your handler? What is your relationship with him/her like?

Panzer XII don’t have handlers, at least not like I’ve observed you’re your cyborgs do which I believe the context of the question is. We’re more militaristic you see, being used as soldiers rather than assassins. Well, most of the time anyway. I work as a spy and saboteur, sometimes that means I have to sabotage a person rather than an building or machine. A little poison in their meal, maybe a knife in a dark alley, sometimes I get real creative; one time, I killed a man with a banana.

4. What are your favourite kinds of missions?

I love espionage, it’s so exciting. Sabotage is fun too, but not as fun. I’d tell you more but that stuff is more than a little bit classified and you don’t have the clearance, hon.

5. What kind of missions do you dislike?

I don’t like straight up gunfights. Doesn’t matter where, I just don’t like them… especially if all I have on me is my P99 or P2000 SK while the enemy is armed with assault rifles. I can normally even up the odds though since I was trained in the operation of several rifle platforms. Makes my job easier some days being familiar with the platform the enemy uses.

6. How do you like life in the SWA dormitory?

Security seems a little less strict than back in Germany, makes it easier to sneak out. And yes, I know this is on record and that you’ll probably increase the security and stuff, but it won’t matter unless you make this place a quadruple security prison, and even then I’d be able to get out. There are no better engineers on Earth than the Jerries, and since I am a machine, I am finely tuned and well built. Think of me as a cross between Houdini, James Bond, and Hannibal Lecter.

7. Do you get along with your room-mate?

I don’t have one, got the room all to myself. I find that kind of funny though; you put three of my comrades in a small room but then put me in a big room. That can probably be blamed on some bureaucrat though, right? I tell you, the amount of screw ups I’ve seen because some bureaucrat thought they knew how the handle a situation better than someone who was trained to or has overseen an operation for a significant portion of their life is just saddening. I can’t even make jokes about it, it’s that sad. By the look on your face, I can tell I’m preaching to the choir.

8. How do you like the dining hall? Do you have a favourite food?

Unlike a lot of the others on the base, I get exposed to lots of different cuisine, and I have to say, I’ve always liked Italian food. Getting served Italian food on a regular basis is quite nice, and then getting maybe Chinese or French on some other nights is nice too. “Variety is the spice of life” as they say. It’s a nice setup as well, makes it easy to just go and start talking with your cyborgs, most of whom are easy enough to get along with. Especially that Rico kid, she’s always happy to talk, interested in all my stories.
As far as food goes, I like plenty of stuff. There’s a little shop in London that makes magnificent fish and chips, and a restaurant in Murmansk that makes the most delectable shashlyk I’ve ever had. But, Lasagne will always have a special place in my heart. There was this place in Lyon, don’t remember the name and it’s not there anymore. I had to meet a man there. He ordered the fish and I ordered the lasagne. I didn’t hear half of what he said, that lasagne was just so good. After the meal… well, I don’t think you need to hear that part, but I will say I’ll miss him.

9. What really grosses you out (not just food)?

You know I’m named after Bear Grylls right? There is a reason for being named as such. There’s actually quite a funny story behind that. You see I had gotten my hands on some Blu-Rays of ‘Man Vs. Wild with bear Grylls’, and after some bartering with the Brigadegeneral, he arranged for a Blu-Ray player and projector to be set up in the mess hall. It was pretty interesting, most of the others had only a vague idea of what the show was about and were very excited. Needless to say, a lot of them were grossed out when the show finally went on, many saying things like, “How can someone do that?!”. I huffed and said it wouldn’t be that bad. They dared me to do it and I said to bring it on! Before I knew it we were in the forest hunting for grubs to feed me with five to one odds I’d puke. I ate all the grubs and bugs they found, every single one of them. I won the bet, proved them all wrong, and went home with new name and three grand in my pocket.

10. Is there one thing you would really like to do, but your handler won't let you?

Boss people don’t let me walk around naked. It’s natural, what’s so wrong with it? I mean, I can understand it when I’m on duty, yeah, that makes sense, I have to stay in uniform, but off duty? The human body is beautiful thing, especially mine, it was designed that way, why should I have to hide it?

11. Where would you like to spend your next vacation? Have you been there before?

I have never been to Croatia. The fishing there is supposed to be good in the lakes there. I’ve never been fishing before either, so that would be new as well. I guess I would go there to try a bunch of new things.

12. Triela's teddy bear collection; cool or geeky?

I really like that girl, Triela. From what I’ve been able to gather she’s like the big sister around here, right? I have tea in her room sometimes with Claes. That Claes is a smart girl, I don’t understand why you guys haven’t put her in charge of the cyborgs yet. Hell, she outsmarts me and I’m the German James Bond. Anyway, back to the blond’s bears. Yeah, they’re pretty cool. She wants, what, fifty eight of them or something like that? Honestly, good luck to the girl, especially since she’s got that Hillshire looking after her. Man, that guy has a pretty big stick up his arse, I just hope he’s not the sort of person that uses it to beat people when it’s finally taken out.

13. Do you have a favourite colour?

I like crimson. I’ve always thought it goes well with my hair. I don’t care what others may say, I think it looks good. Especially this little number I got in Milan last time I was there. If you’re lucky you might see me in it.

14. Aside from your handler, is there an adult (agency or outside) that you admire?

Well, Bear Grylls is the obvious person, but no, there is someone I rate higher than him. Yes, Prince Kheldar from David Eddings’ ‘The Belgariad’ and ‘The Malloreon’, better known as Silk. He’s a shifty little bugger, best spy in all the lands, entrepreneur, and millionaire. What’s not to like…? Why are you giving me that look? What, I’m allowed to read. Just because I’m a beautiful young woman who emulates Bear Grylls and specialises in espionage and sabotage doesn’t mean I can’t have a modest hobby like reading.

15. If you could chose, how would you like to die?

Bitten and turned into a vampire. And not a sparkly girly vampire, I mean the badass variety like in the Blade trilogy. Yes, I know there are certain… prerequisites I don’t meet. Yes, that particular one.

Re: Interview with a Cyborg

MP5 wrote:The Montagne Brothers weigh in on Crystal's interview:

Charlie: I find Miss Evans rather intriguing. What do you think, Andy? I like Miss Evans, do you like Miss Evans?

Andy: Crystal seems all righ'. Her style, I agree with, though I don't use sex appeal when I go to work.

Charlie: I think I'm gonna go for it, mate.

Andy: What, Crystal? You're going to hit on her?

Charlie: Well I think it's a right fried gold sandwich.

Andy: Sure, go ahead and do that, mate; buy her a drink and see where it goes from there like you usually do. I'm sure if she doesn't crush your bollocks first, her handler damn well will... It's a wonder how you get through life thinking with your Brighton instead of your brain.

Now lets see how that one plays out. Evil

Walking into the cafeteria one sunny afternoon in order to get some food in his belly; 'Charming' Charlie suddenly spies a certain Crystal Evans sitting by herself eating while looking over her reports and paperwork for the last reconnaissance assignment. The first thing he notices is her clothes. Charlie first eyes her classic black Converse All Star sneakers before tracing her subtle muscled curves through her blue denim skinny jeans. In curiosity he also notices her jeans held up by a studded white leather belt and as an accessory her wallet sitting in her back pocket is anchored by a fairly large link chain with a snap bolt attached to a belt loop.

Looking at her shirt; Charlie first notices that the lower quarter has been cut away revealing a small waist he seems to find irresistible. Soon after though he spies the logo of the American band, Social Distortion. With that Charlie moves right in confident he has found his ice breaker.

"Hello love," Charlie says as he sits down. "What's good in the hall this fine day?"
Glancing up at him, Crystal returns to the papers in front of her, "The pies are all right I s'pose. Not enough meat though, and it's a bit runny."
"Oh now that is an interesting accent."
"It's not far from yours mate. What's your beef?"
"Beef? No beef, just happy to meet another Londoner is all."
"Souf."
"Pardon?"
"Souf London, mate...and judging by that cockney glottal stop; I'ma fancy a guess that you're a bloody eastender."
"...Yes..." Charlie says now feeling a bit awkward.
"Your kit isn't typical of what you'd find on the East End, so that leaves one of three solutions."
"And those would be?"
Taking two bites to finish off her meat pie; Crystal throws down the fork and stares into Charlie's eyes, "One; you're one of these fucking city-boys who is used to getting what they want. Two; a woman dresses you. Or three; you're a nance. Care to answer which one you are?"

For the next few minutes Crystal continues to subtly interrogate Charlie on the ins and outs of his life and even reveals a few things about Charlie that he himself didn't realize.

"But fuck all that," Crystal says gathering her work together and smiling a sultry grin. "I know what you want; you want to find someplace quite and alone for two; right?"
"Yeah," Charlie smiles as he prepares all his best lines and moves.
"You wanna see how far you can extract sounds and feeling of ecstasy right?"
"You know it."
Leaning in real close to Charlie, Crystal whispers into his ear, "Then why are you sitting here talking to someone like me?"
"Eh?" Charlie said now clearly confused.
"There's me bloke now, cheers eastender and good luck with that yeah."

Taking a moment to let it all sink in, Charlie looked around to see exactly what just happened. Looking over he sees Crystal in the arms of a thin, but fairly tall man whom he remembers from the records department. In an about face; Crystal seems to have changed from the hard-grilling agent to a blushing schoolgirl.

"Who...how...what?" Charlie says as he looks at the scene.
"C'mon now Charlie," says Andy who had witnessed the entire scene, "lets go and have a pull yeh?"
"He's even wearing bloody specs."
"I know, I know. C'mon bruv."

Re: Interview with a Cyborg

Post by Alfisti on Sat 17 Nov 2012 - 4:10

And here's Raych's questionaire... as compared to her handler's.

1. Hello, can you tell us your name and a little about your role in Section 2?
C.Raych… Danilo, that’s my handler, says the “C” is for “cyborg”. My handler is Danilo Olivetti and we do assaults and raids and general combat type missions. We also are tasked as rapid-response, so if something goes wrong on another mission we can be there really quickly to give help.

Danilo says I should always be ready for a mission, so I keep a ready bag under my bed… it has everything I need to go as soon as he calls me… well, except for ammunition. Cyborgs aren’t allowed that on-campus, but he knows what is in my bag so keeps loaded magazines for me with him.

2. Can you tell us about your conditioning?

Not really, sorry.

3. How do you feel about your handler? What is your relationship with him like?
Danilo’s really, he’s umm… he’s really great. He give me everything I need, and he says I have to dress in black or white, I think it makes us look like a pair *blushes*

Umm, he trains me every day, even weekends… I know I still need to work hard to live up to his standards, but he’s very direct about what he wants and I know exactly what I need to do. Some of the girls think he’s hard, I’ve heard them talking sometimes, but he only wants me to be able to work well with him and not be left behind. I really want that too.

He make sure I have everything I need, or if Ferro says I need something he’ll make sure I have it and I try to make him happy, do as he says and listen to all his training… he’s my everything *blushes again*.

4. What are your favourite kinds of missions?
Raids and assaults... they’re what I’m best at and I will usually be working in a team with Danilo. I like that because we can cover each other and if something has to change I find out about it quickly. Rapid response as well, there’s less you need to concern yourself with and you can just focus on dealing with what’s in front of your fratello to try and stop anyone here getting hurt; I think I’d like preventing my friends from getting hurt.

Actually… umm… I’ve actually only done one mission so far… *quickly* but-it-was-a-raid! Umm… but from what Danilo says those are what I should be best at, and they certainly sound like what I’d most like to do *looks a little furtive*... and Danilo has a really quite car so bad guys can’t hear us until it’s too late.

Though I wouldn’t mind doing an intelligence mission… that looks… it looks exciting… [For the record, she’d be terrible at it – A].

Umm… that first mission I was on though, it… I guess it felt good? It, umm, some things didn’t go right, but Danilo says that’s just rough edges which need knocking off.

5. What kind of missions do you dislike?
Umm… as I said, I’ve only done one mission so far, but from what Danilo says escort and protection doesn’t sound like much fun… too many people who can foul up… or something. Trying to manage lots of people sounds difficult, and I wouldn’t want anyone being hurt because of me or because of something I did wrong… or something else bad to happen because of me.

I guess tailing people, or stealth missions, don’t sound enjoyable either. We would probably have to split up for those and it’s difficult for us to react quickly if Danilo’s not there to see what’s happening, and it’s easier to protect him if I’m there.

6. How do you like life in the SWA dormitory?
I really like it, everyone is really friendly and tries to make me feel included, well, most of them do… some of them I’ve learned to avoid, *quickly* but-the-others-do-the-same-and-say-it’s-the-easiest thing-to-do-in-the-long-run.

Marisa’s a lot of fun, as are Kara and Allison… they came with me when I went to see Monty in the hospital, I feel bad about getting them in trouble, and Henrietta and Triela invited me for tea when I first arrived, which was nice of them.

Miss Ferro makes sure everything we need is there too, which is really nice of her.

7. Do you get along with your room-mate?
[Going to skip this one for now as it’s a subject currently up for debate as I’ve not found her one yet... but she won’t be rooming as a singleton. In some ways I think she'd be a bit of a problem room-mate – A]

8. How do you like the dining hall? Do you have a favourite food?

Umm, I don’t really have anything else to compare it against, so I guess it’s alright?

I like most food, but the pastries are tasty and easy to eat in a hurry; I sometimes grab them on my way to training. I umm, I had trouble managing my time in the first few weeks I was here and sometimes Danilo would grab one or two in case I didn’t have time to eat, so I kind of like them for that as well.

9. What really grosses you out (not just food)?
Nothing that I can think of… *quickly* But-I’m-sure-there’s-something... I’ll, umm, let you know if I find it.

10. Is there one thing you would really like to do, but your handler won't let you?
Umm… I know some of the older girls get to drive, I wouldn’t mind having a go at that, but Danilo says it’s not something I should be worrying myself with, and that I look too young for it anyway. I hear Montalcino has some nice wines [This is a lie, they’re not just nice, they’re spectacular, but food is a must – A] … actually, I’ve never had wine before, but I’ve heard it’s nice.

11. Where would you like to spend your next vacation? Have you been there before?
I… hadn’t really thought about it, I don’t think Danilo has ever mentioned holidays before. Umm, I don’t know, Montalcino maybe? [If she learns a bit more about the world, Raych’s opinion might change, but right now her knowledge is limited at best. For example she knows Monty travels all over, but none of the place names mean much to her, she just knows it sounds glamorous and exciting – A]

12. Triela's teddy bear collection; cool or geeky?
I think it’s really nice. I don’t think Danilo will let me have anything like that… he was talking about getting me an instrument at some point, or something else… miniatures? But I don’t know what happened to that.

13. Do you have a favourite colour?
Umm, not really… Danilo says black and white are the best, and Kara has some bright red lipstick I really like.

14. Aside from your handler, is there an adult (agency or outside) that you admire?
Umm, not from outside the Agency, Danilo says that a cyborg should only have concern for the job in hand. I kind of wish I could be as outgoing as some of the other girls, Kara, Marisa, Triela, Allison... the always seem to know what to say. I met Monty Blacker once as well, she didn’t seem very nice but I think my timing might have been bad. I’ve heard a lot of stories about her though, but she’s so fleeting here in person. I wish I could be like that; meet glamorous people and travel the world...

*very quickly*...but-Danilo-says-Italy-and-The-Agency-are-what-I-should-concern-myself-with
... so they’re good enough for me.

15. If you could chose, how would you like to die?

Umm, I haven’t really thought about that… though I guess helping Danilo, or helping him save someone else.

Wow. C. Raych is sure eager to please - not just her handler, she doesn't want to give offense to anybody. Nice contrast, considering she knocks down doors for a vocation. There's a lot of untapped potential in this girl; I wonder if Danilo will ever take notice, or won't he be able to see past her immediate uses as a blunt instrument?

You have a lot left to tell us about these two, mate.

She is eager to please... I picture her as earnest, a bit naive and terrified of letting people down. As such she'll tend to tell people what she thinks they want to hear and I doubt she'd find the idea of international missions or intelligence work so appealing once she found out exactly what additional responsibilities and risks those involved.

Cheers mate, I think they're going to be fun to work with.

Re: Interview with a Cyborg

Post by Thescarredman on Tue 20 Nov 2012 - 22:41

The Agency interviewer heard the door on the opposite wall open, pulling his eyes up from the neat stacks of papers on the tabletop at which he sat. A young woman in a skirt, blouse, and knee-length boots paused with one hand on the knob, almost posing, and offered him a polite smile. “Hello,” she said. “Is this where the interviews are being done?”

Being a young man, he appraised her automatically: mid-teens, slender, shoulder-length dark blonde hair in a tousled cut. Her eyes were light clear gray and generously lashed, quite pretty. Her outfit was light and snug, conservative in coverage yet showing her modest figure to good advantage. He smiled before he remembered that he was appraising sculpture, not anatomy. He glanced at the light on his recorder that showed it was running. “Yes,” he said. “Are you alone? I thought-”

“Hardly,” said a girl’s voice from outside the door. “Step in, will you?”

The girl stepped forward, and another crowded in behind her. The interviewer said, “Oh. I thought you were twins.”

“We are twins,” said the second girl, dressed in jeans and a black leather jacket. Her coal-black ponytail swung around her waist as she turned to close the door. “Identical.” She marched straight to one of two chairs opposite the interviewer’s and dropped into it, unzipping her jacket. He saw that, unlike the blonde, her eyes were heavily made up, making her look older - and on the market. “That doesn’t mean we have to be bookends. The only time we look the same is when one of us needs an alibi.”

The blonde settled into the other chair, fussing with her skirt. “I’m sure you can guess already which one of us she’s talking about.”

“Shut up,” the dark girl said with a little smile. Then her mood changed. She leaned forward suddenly and focused on the interviewer across the table. He saw that, under the extra makeup, the second girl did indeed have her sister’s gray eyes. The intensity of her gaze was a little unnerving, more so since he knew that those pretty eyes were really cameras. Finally, she said in a low voice, “You don’t belong here.”

“I – what?”

“Vee, manners,” said the blonde.

“No one as uncomfortable around cyborgs as he is has any business here.” She leaned back. “How old are you, twenty?”

“Twenty-one,” he said automatically.

“How did you end up with this job? You have an uncle with pull or something?”

He was affronted, since the girl was correct. “I think I’m the one supposed to be asking the questions.” He dropped his hand to the blank questionnaire he’d placed on the table, but his hand touched bare tabletop instead. He blinked at the blonde girl, who was holding up the document and reading it. She shifted to share it with her sister, and they scanned the pages together, ignoring him. The blonde shook her head at the printed questions; the dark one scoffed.

Finally the blonde put the sheets on the table and shoved them back across to him. She said, “What sort of information document is this supposed to be?” Without giving him time to answer, she went on, “This wasn’t prepared by any psychologist or information expert. It looks like something out of a magazine, or a promotional pamphlet. It almost seems like a public-relations stunt. But the last I heard, Section Two is still a covert operation, so who’s this being prepared for?”

He swallowed. “I…”

“See what I mean?” The dark girl said. “He can’t even talk to us without using his position as a shield.”

“It’s his first assignment,” the blonde said. “Of course he’s nervous and wants to do well.”

He felt the hairs on his forearms rise. “How did you know that? What have they told you about me?”

“The only one who’s told us about you is you,” The blonde said. “What’s your name?” When he hesitated, she said gently, “We’ll give you your interview, ami. But we’re going to want quid pro quo. So, question one. What’s your name, and what are you doing here?”

He endured another moment under their pale gaze, and said, “Antonio Salles.”

The girls brightened. “Major Salles is your uncle?” Said the blonde.

Merda,” said the black-haired one. “I’m going to have to take back half the nasty things I’ve been thinking about you. You must have just finished mandatory service, then. I can’t see one of the Major’s nephews wriggling out of it.”

“Actually, my father arranged a deferment.” He’d been grateful at the time: he’d thought military service a waste of time and a speed bump to his career. He’d since learned different, but what was done was done.

“Well,” said the blonde, “at least you have the decency to be embarrassed. You can expect a certain amount of hazing about it. Most of the staff have military or police or intelligence credentials. Even the librarians are ex-Carabinieri.” She gestured to herself. “I’m Kristal. Everyone calls me Kay.”

The black-haired girl laced her fingers behind her head and leaned back in the chair, making her jacket open and fall aside to reveal a thin white cotton tee, and a lacy brassiere beneath. “Verotrois.” She pronounced it in the French way, the ‘r’s from the back of the throat and the ‘s’ silent. “Misspell it any way you like. I go by Vee whenever I can. Don’t call me Vera.”

“We’re second-generation cyborgs, obviously.” Kristal raised an eyebrow. “Or, maybe not so obvious? Do you know the difference between Firsts and Seconds?”

“I got a briefing,” Antonio said cautiously. “And, I’ve interviewed a few of each. I can tell the difference.” He added, “It seems like there are a lot of twins here.”

She nodded. “There’s a cost savings involved, I’m told. The cyborg bodies are matched to the individual, custom work. Building two the same is somewhat cheaper. And brain mapping the second cyborg candidate is simpler as well.” She gave him an eyebrow shrug. “Someday there’s going to be a train wreck somewhere involving quintuplet twelve-year-old girls, and the Agency will be there with a stack of release forms before the fires are out.”

“We’re human-intelligence specialists,” said Vee, “though that isn’t all we do. Before we go any further, Antonio, you should answer Kay’s first question.”

He frowned. “Eh?”

“Who’s going to be looking at this?”

“Well,” he said, choosing his words carefully, “I’ve been told the Agency intends to use them as part of an introduction to the program – not for new hires or the general public, but public figures who have a need to know.”

“Politicians,” Vee said. “People the Director or the Minister need to go to for funding, I suppose.”

“And other support.” Antonio shifted in his chair.

“Are you interviewing all the cyborgs, then?” Kristal asked.

“And the handlers. Not personally,” he amended. “I’m the only full-time staffer doing interviews, but there are several other people like Dr. Bianchi who pitch in as their duties allow. It’s going to take awhile. Not only are there a lot of you, some of the fratelli are out of the compound for extended periods.”

“Sounds rather low-priority,” Vee said. “The sort of makework assignment you’d give a newbie you’re not sure of. And it’s not going well.” She reached across the table for the stack of completed interviews.

“Hey!” Antonio reached for the papers. Her hand struck like a snake and slapped at his wrist. He snatched his hand back with a sharp cry, and held it with the other.

Vee picked up the pages. “Didn’t mean to hit you that hard. Sorry.”

The stinging was subsiding, leaving Antonio angry and outraged. “That didn’t sound very sincere.”

“Most apologies aren’t.” The girl began reading, turning pages every few seconds. “Go ahead and ask.”

“Ask?”

“Whether we can read minds. I know you’ve been thinking about it.”

“Stop trying to intimidate him, Vee.” Kristal met his eyes. “We can’t. But we’re expert observers. You’d be amazed what you can pick up from a person’s voice and body language and such if you’re properly trained. And from their involuntary responses and biorhythms, if you have enhanced senses.”

“That’s how I know you and the Major don’t get along,” Vee said, eyes still on the pages. “He got you this job expecting you to blow it.” She raised her eyes briefly. “At least, that’s what you believe. For myself, Major Salles doesn’t seem a man who’d set someone up to fail.”

“Antonio,” Kristal said smoothly, “Why don’t you ask your questions while she reads?”

He huffed and consulted his paperwork as Vee’s eyes dropped back to her reading. “Can you tell us about your conditioning?”

“Hm.” Kay gave him an eyebrow shrug. “Well, there’s not a lot to say. It’s heavy enough that we don’t remember… being anyone else, but that’s true of most of us. We think we were in an accident.”

“Something catastrophic, I’d bet. Head-on collision, plane crash, like that.” Vee didn’t look up from her reading.

“Plane crash?” Kristal’s eyebrows went up. “Who survives a plane crash?”
Vee stopped reading long enough to roll her eyes. “Hel-lo, we didn’t survive, that’s why we’re here.”

Antonio’s forearms prickled. Kristal glared at her sister for a second, then went on. “They don’t tell us what’s in the pills, or what goes on when they put us under for therapy. But I know they examine us a lot more closely than the other girls. We visit the clinic more than anybody. Well, anybody but Claes.”

“Kristal and I don’t get the same meds,” Vee said, still turning pages. “They’re anal about mixing them up – the pills are color-coded, and we have to go to the clinic for them every day when we’re in the compound, and a doctor watches us take them. On missions, they give them to Doc or whoever’s in charge to pass out.”

“Doc?”

“Our handler,” Kristal said. “The doctorate’s in psychology, I don’t know what branch.”

“I see.” He glanced at the questionnaire. “Which leads into the next question. How do you feel about your handler? What is your relationship with him like?”

Kay said simply, “Love him.”

Vee nodded, still turning pages; Antonio saw she was almost through the document. “Not because we’re cyborgs. Second-gens have a choice. But any girl of his would fall in love with him, seriously. He’s prime handler material.”

Kay offered him a little smile. “We’re both Daddy’s girls, I guess.”

“Speak for yourself. He’s my handler, and he’s the best. But he’s a friend and teacher.” Vee set the document down and drummed her fingers on it.

“Oh, right. Like I’m not supposed to remember when he saw what you were packing for that cruise to Greece - especially the swimsuit you tried to hide. I thought his jaw was going to come unhinged. He made you tell him who bought it for you. If it had been anybody but Priscilla, there’d have been violence. That was when you got the Lecture.”

Vee ignored the comment. She slid the stack of interviews back to Antonio. “I see why you’re so on edge now. If you want to present Section Two favorably to strangers, most of these interviews can never see the light of day.” She shook her head. “I can only imagine what some of the handler interviews are like. Are you allowed to edit them?”

“I… haven’t asked.”

Kristal sighed heavily. “All right. Let’s put on our happy faces and try to give this poor boy something to work with. Next question?”

“Um, four. What are your favorite kinds of missions?”

“The kind we never get,” Vee said. “Someday Doc’s going to tell me I’m headed for a dance club to impersonate somebody having fun, and I’ll fall over in a faint.”

Antonio frowned at her. “That didn’t sound very upbeat.”

“How obviously staged do you want this to sound? We’re teenaged girls. Of course we have complaints.” Her lashes lowered. “That’s how you want to present us, isn’t it? Just regular kids, only better? And more useful?”

He swallowed, and wondered how many people these two had killed, and for what reasons. “I suppose.”

“Favorite missions? Surveillance, I guess,” said Kay. “Or ones involving roleplaying or confidence games. I’m not into violence and bloodshed like Darkchild here.”

“Please. You’re just afraid to chip your nail polish on a face or a trigger.”

Kay looked coolly at her. “Clone.”

“Cheap knockoff,” Vee shot back.

“Smudged carbon.”

The dark girl frowned. “What?”

“Something Doc told me about when you weren’t around,” Kristal said smugly. “He does that a lot.”

Antonio rattled his papers. “Ahem. Five. What kind of missions do you dislike?”

Kristal shrugged. “Interrogations, if the subject isn’t cooperating. Hostile situations of any kind, really.” She gave him a strangely direct look. “I can deal with conflict, but I don’t like it.”

“I like conflict just fine.” Vee’s look seemed almost challenging. “I have a competitive nature. If a mission gives me a chance to feel like I scored a victory, it’s good, no matter what it is. If there’s no challenge to a job, I get bored. Even a gunfight is better than a stakeout.”

He spent a moment longer trying to fathom their behavior, then gave a mental shrug. At least the answers make some sense. “Six. How do you like life in the SWA dormitory?”

“Your turn,” Vee said. “How do you like it here? Do you have a room on compound?”

He swallowed. The girl’s stares suddenly made the idea of spending a night under the same roof - inside the same walls, even – seem risky in a way he didn’t want to think about. “No. I have a room here I use for an office, but I don’t spend the night. I have an apartment in Monte Sacro near the inner ring road.”

The dark girl smiled, not altogether pleasantly. “Overspending your salary already, are you?”

Kristal said quickly, “The dorm is pretty cool, but it’s not always the same. There are so many of us now, it’s impossible not to make friends. But any of us may be off on a mission with no notice, sometimes for days. You never know who’s on compound until you meet them in the halls or class. Sometimes this place is like a haunted house, all empty and echoing. Other times it’s like a train station. You can’t step out of your room without looking, or you’ll run right into somebody.”

“I don’t like it when it’s crowded. Communal bathrooms suck ditch water,” Vee said. “We never run out of hot water, even when the compound’s crowded, but the towels are another story. Eating in shifts is a pain in the butt too. And, while I’m griping, you’d think they could upgrade those drafty windows in the bedrooms.”

“Gesu, what a whiner.”

Your room’s not on the windward side. Let’s see how you feel about it the first time you wake up with snow dusting your covers.”

“So, you’re not room mates?” He glanced from one to the other.

Vee smiled. “Oh, hell no. The only time we share a room is on the road.”

“Well.” He read the next question from the list. “Seven. Do you get along with your room-mates, then?”

“Kristal and her roomie get along so well, you’d think they were sisters.”

“You’d get along with yours just fine if you were better at sharing the space. It’s a good thing Daria spends so much time on the road. Every time she comes back, it sounds like a moving crew is in there until she has all your crap back where it belongs. Is it any wonder she’s pissed at you all the time?”

“If she slept in her bed more than four days a month, maybe all that unused space wouldn’t seem like such a waste. Anyway, that’s not the only issue she has with me. I make her handler nervous.”

Antonio frowned. “Why?”

The unpleasant little smile was back. “The same reason we make you nervous, Antonio.”

He studied his paperwork, avoiding her eyes. “Eight. How do you like the dining hall? Do you have a favorite food?”

“Who doesn’t have a favorite food?” Vee shook her head. “Is this supposed to be another one of those ‘we’re just regular kids’ questions?”

“Like you pointed out, they all are. Do you have an answer?”

“Dessert. Especially if Claes has been helping in the kitchen. That girl can bake.”

“True.” Kay touched a finger to her lower lip. “I like the camaraderie of the dining hall, especially when there aren’t any grownups taking a meal. The food is fine. I don’t really have any favorites – it seems my tastes keep changing as I get older.”

Vee flicked a glance toward her sister before her face blanked. Antonio wondered if the cyborgs perceived time the same way real people did. How did one define ‘older’ when you only had a year or two of memories, and came to awareness fully grown, yet still an adolescent? He consulted the questionnaire again. “Nine. What really grosses you out - not just food?”

Kay stared at the wall behind him. “Washing body fluids and tissue scraps out of my hair. Fighting at close quarters, that stuff goes everywhere.”

He swallowed his gorge, waiting for the dark girl’s answer. She gave him a twisted little smile. “Older guys who try to pick me up. Too many of them seem to think it’s open season because I don’t dress like a nun or a schoolgirl. Once when I was pulling surveillance on a street corner, some disgusting troll offered me money.”

“Hmph.” Kaye raised her eyebrows. “So you don’t like older men. Carlo would laugh to hear that.” She smiled at Antonio. “Carlo is one of our SRT troopers. They have what Petra would call a ‘special relationship’.”

“Oh, do not. We’re just friendly.”

“Every time you meet, you act like you’re ready to find a broom closet and bump.”

“Phtt. He’s an outrageous flirt – it’s just his way of teasing. So I go along with it. It’s all he wants from me. He’s a gentleman, in his way.”

The cyborgs’ faint smiles suddenly disappeared; the strange dual stare was back. Vee said, “You don’t approve, clearly. And I don’t think it’s the age difference that’s making your pupils contract like that.”

“It’s none of my business.” He was surprised at the hoarse tone of his voice. He returned his attention to the questionnaire. “Ten. Is there one thing you would really like to do, but your handler won't let you?”

The twins settled back in their chairs. Vee said, “That’s a tough one. There are so many things I’d like to do that I’d never ask Doc’s permission for.”

“I think he’s assuming you won’t do something if Doc tells you no.”

“Well, of course I wouldn’t. That’s why I don’t ask permission first. I ask for forgiveness later.”

“Hmph.” Kay’s eyes lost focus. “Me, I can’t think of anything I’d want to do that he’d forbid. That may change in time.”

Trying to keep up the momentum, he said quickly, “Eleven. Where would you like to spend your next vacation? Have you been there before?” Please, God, don’t let them choose something terrifying or disgusting.

“I don’t know.” Kay looked thoughtful, or lost in memory. “We were on the road a lot before Doc… before Doc was diagnosed. Now we don’t travel much at all. There are a lot of places I’d like to see again, but I wouldn’t want to leave him behind.”

“The same. But I would like to go someplace where I could be on my own for a while, if I knew he was safe nearby.”

He nodded, relieved, before the information sank in. Their handler is ill? Severely? He considered asking, but decided against. “Twelve. Triela's teddy bear collection: cool or geeky?”

Vee smirked. “Have you met Triela yet?”

“Ah, no.”

“Don’t call her collection ‘teddy bears’ to her face. You’ll never hear the end of it. She collects stuffed bears. A teddy bear is a certain kind of stuffed bear made to resemble Theodore Roosevelt, and she doesn’t own one of those. Fair warning.”

“It’s a real collection,” Kristal said earnestly, “not just a bunch of toys. She doesn’t just pick them off a shelf because they’re cute, she researches them, and some of them are kind of rare. That seems pretty grown-up. I mean, there are people who collect stamps and coins and plates and little plastic figurines, you name it. Sandro told me that when he met a man who collected ceramic insulators off telephone poles, he didn’t have a bit of trouble finding three books on the subject. Kara’s handler Mr. Pagani collects cars.”

“I’d like to add him to my collection.” Vee touched her upper lip with her tongue.

“As if.” The blonde went on. “So I guess it’s cool and geeky.” She smiled. “Really, I’m surprised you don’t have more questions about hobbies and interests, given what you want this for.”

“I don’t care if she collects dog poo in paper bags,” Vee said. “If it’s something she does with her handler besides work, it’s all good. Too many of those guys ignore their cyborgs outside of missions and training. It makes my teeth clench when I see one of them drop his girl off at the dorm entrance and then just drive away without a goodbye.”

Antonio dropped his eyes to his paperwork again; he was uncomfortably aware of how often he’d been doing that since these two stepped through his door. “Thirteen. Do you have a favorite color?”

Vee lowered her heavily-mascaraed lashes. “Black. Till they invent something darker.”
“I love autumn colors,” said Kristal. “I’m not sure where I’d like to take a vacation, but I know when.”

Antonio nodded, pleased by the pedestrian replies; some of the cyborgs wad provided very unsettling answers to the simple question. Only two more to go, he thought. Please, no more surprises. “Fourteen. Aside from your handler, is there an adult – within the agency or outside it - that you admire?”

Vee was beginning to look bored: he saw her glance around the room, as if searching for a clock. “We don’t meet many people outside the Agency. Most of them are Section One guys who hate us, or Padans who want to kill us. Not much to admire there. Inside the Agency? About half the handlers, some of the staffers and support people. Dr. Bianchi is nice. Priscilla too. Ferro’s kind of sweet under her ‘business’ persona. Director Draghi would be a better boss than Mr. Lorenzo, I think, under very different circumstances. Oh, and the SRT guys. That’s a pretty long list, I guess, considering I’m not really a people person.”

Kaye gave her interviewer an eyebrow shrug. “Well, I’m a people person. And I don’t think you have to meet someone to admire them. Voltaire comes to mind, or Gandhi, or Megan Fox. I admire a lot of people I’ve met, too. I even liked a few I interrogated under duress. Does that sound weird?”

“Very. Especially that part about Megan Fox.”

“I’m not asking you, clone.”

“Bet hers aren’t any realer than yours.”

“Shut up, you Balrog.” Kay offered Antonio an apologetic smile. “Sorry. It’s her ADD or something.”

Vee said levelly, “Don’t patronize me to this man, Little Miss Perfect. You think he sees you any differently?”

Kristal’s voice tightened. “Yes. And I think maybe if you spent less time playing the psycho bitch, people wouldn’t give me so many odd looks when we’re together.”

“I’m not the one people wonder about, you driver’s school dropout. I’m surprised Doc still lets you touch his wheelchair, after that time last fall.”
“Now, wait a minute-”

“Chasing a guy down pushing Doc’s chair? With him in it? What were you thinking?”

Suddenly on the defensive, Kristal said, “Doc said to catch him.”

“Down the Spanish Steps.”

“We caught him.”

I caught him. You had to wait at the bottom of the steps for the ambulance.”

“He said he was okay, just had to catch his breath-”

“Bitch, please. They had him on oxygen before they transferred him to the gurney. He was pale as a sheet. When they took off, they-”

Vee’s voice cut off abruptly as her sister slid out of her seat, sending it toppling backwards, and dropped to her knees. She bent forward, nearly striking the edge of the table with her forehead, and began retching.

Vee stood, sending her chair over as well, and shoved the table roughly aside, nearly clipping Antonio’s legs.“Stay in your seat.” The dark girl spied the overturned wastebasket beside his chair and snatched it up. She knelt beside her sister and shoved the bin under her chin just in time.

“It was all bullshit,” Vee said earnestly as she drew the girl’s hair back. “I already had the guy before you reached the bottom, but he would have gotten away if you hadn’t driven him to me. The ambulance was just a precaution. Doc didn’t stay there two hours. He took us to dinner that night, a reward for a good job. He teased you about it, remember?” Her face was as strained as her sister’s. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”

“I hate you,” Kristal said blurrily, forcing the words out past her clenched diaphragm. “With every atom of my being, I hate you.” Her face was slack with misery, forehead and upper lip beaded with sweat. She retched again, and Antonio heard stomach contents splashing inside the wastecan.

After another minute, the girl’s grunting and heaving subsided. She coughed, wiped her mouth with the back of her hand, stood unsteadily, and reached carefully for the wastecan.

“I’ll take it,” Vee offered.

“I’ll take care of my own mess,” Kristal said, grasping it by the rim and wobbling toward the door. “Just leave me alone.”

Verotrois stared at the door after it closed. “I’m sure she thinks I owe you an apology as well, Antonio. But it’s just not coming. I saw how your grip on your pencil changed when I mentioned Section One, and the muscles around your eyes, just for half a second. So I dropped Draghi’s name and confirmed my suspicions. You never did tell us where you worked before you came here. But now I know. God knows what you tell one another about us; the agents who come to us from Section One won’t talk about it. I’m sure it’s all the more awful for being part true.”

She turned to him, and he flinched under her gaze. “The Agency robbed a grave to make each and every one of us, true enough. Maybe that’s why we seem to have the legal standing of medical cadavers. But we’re more than just collections of parts, damn you.” She poked her temple twice with a fingertip. “This isn’t just an organic computer. And my self-image isn’t just random bits of code that survived the Agency’s reformatting, that make me think I’m a teenage girl instead of a machine.” She turned away. “Sorry. You didn’t need to hear all that. The strain just gets to me sometimes.”

He found himself standing, and was surprised to hear himself say, “It’s all right.” But he didn’t dare move toward her.

She shook her head. “It’s not the first time I rode her about that day. But she never reacted like that before.” She was silent a moment. “You missed something early on, when we told you about our conditioning.”

He got it then. “If you’re identical… why do you get different meds?”

“That’s part of it, but not all. I told you our meds are color-coded. I didn’t tell you that they keep changing hers. Mine are white with a thin blue stripe, always have been. Hers are pale orange. But two weeks ago, they were pink. And six weeks before that, mint green.”

“Why?”

“They don’t tell us, of course, or Doc either, I’m sure. But I know. The doctors found another use for twins. They’re experimenting. I’m the control subject. She’s the guinea pig.

“They’re messing with her head during the helmet sessions too. Sometimes she comes out of that room, she’s just fine. Other times I don’t even know her. And sometimes she seems fine, at first, but… she used to collect bears too, half a dozen of them. She even slept with them. Two months ago, she came back from therapy. She seemed okay. I walked her to her room, and she started through the doorway … and just stopped at the threshold, like she’d suddenly realized she’d gone through the wrong door. But she hadn’t. She just stood there staring at that gang of bears on her bed. After supper, she gathered them up and went all through the dorm, giving them away. By bedtime they were all gone. No explanation, and she hasn’t mentioned it since. I’m afraid to ask. She might not remember.”

The door opened. Kristal stepped through, looking much fresher, the wastecan in one hand. “I washed it in the utility tub in the janitor’s closet.” The blonde girl set the can next to his chair, and gestured for him to sit. She pulled the table back in its place, righted her chair, and sat, folding her hands on the table’s surface. “Where were we?”

Antonio glanced at Vee. “We could continue this later, Kristal.”

“If it’s all the same to you, Signore Salles, I don’t want to come back here. Sit down, Verotrois.”

Vee hesitated, then righted her chair and sat beside her twin.

Kristal took her sister’s hand without looking at her. “We both know I’m going to forgive you. I might as well do it now and get it over with.”

“How magnanimous of you,” Vee said, eyes shining.

“Yes. Antonio? Next question?”

Antonio scanned the bottom of the questionnaire, and swallowed. “Perhaps we really should-”

“Now.” In a milder tone, Kay went on, “Or never. Ask your questions.”
“Just ... one left, actually.” He cleared his throat. “If you could choose, how would you like to die?”

Kristal leaned forward, trapping his eyes. “Of old age.” Leaning back, she said, “Second choice. Protecting Doc. Successfully.”

Mischief lit Vee’s eyes. “Shot in the back of the head by a jealous wife, just as her husband’s screaming my-”

“VEE!”

Damn...that was intense. Your two girls have a terrific rapport which I get the feeling this interview barely scratched the surface of. You just raised the bar for this thread, ScarredMan!

Nicely written mate, they certainly bounce off each other... though I'll admit part of me can;t help but think Vee has to be skirting the upper limits on the amount of backtalk the conditioning will allow =P Then again, I guess if she's had a lenient handler...

Looking forward to seeing more of them.

Yeah, that's a good point. This exchange raised my eyebrows a bit...
“Hey!” Antonio reached for the papers. Her hand struck like a snake and slapped at his wrist. He snatched his hand back with a sharp cry, and held it with the other.

Vee picked up the pages. “Didn’t mean to hit you that hard. Sorry.”
...a cyborg striking an Agency member? What sorcery is this?

Seriously, we need more fiction with these girls. I enjoyed their part in Dolomites, but this was better.

Indeed... I love your gimmick with these two - one's the control for a conditioning experiment, whilst the other's a test subject.... I love their personalities, how they do "good cop bad cop" as easily and naturally as breathing... I cannot wait to see them in more material.

Excellent work!

Thanks, guys. This little story kind of morphed in my hands. I'm not entirely sure who wrote it, really.

Good point. I was under the impression that the cyborgs could get physical with Agency people, just couldn't deliberately do them actual damage (Ange grabbing Silla's wrist comes to mind, as does Hilshire's calling on Salles and his men to work Triela over..
