Post by Kiskaloo on Thu 24 Dec 2009 - 11:04

The clock just ticked over to December 25th here in Japan, so here is hoping Santa Kana brings you something nice!

It´s December 24th, 17:53 here in Germany and we´re getting ready to go to my Grandmas´ and meet up with the other half of the family ^0^
This time we already had exploding champagne bottles and some very slick ice/snow so I hope that we won´t burn our tree down or anything like that....well...still I wish you a Merry Christmas!!!

11:26 on December 24th, with a mix of sleet and snow here in Norman, Oklahoma. Not quite what I used to get back when I lived in Canada (It's a long story how a Canadian ended up in Oklahoma), but hey, if this sticks around we still might get a white Christmas! snow By the way, Kisk, after that pic of Yuki Nagato with the pumpkin you got out for Halloween, I was wondering when you'd roll out the holiday-themed anime pic!

Edit: It's official, blizzard warning, 5+ inches of snow! snow snow snow

I couldn't find one of Yuki as Santa, so I'll use Santa Kana until the new year and go back to Claes.

Then I gather you couldn't find a Santa Claes either! Shame, that would have been epic!

This thread needs more Santa girls:

In the last episode of EF season 2, there's a scene with Chihiro wearing a Santa outfit (maybe its Kuze's?). Unfortunately the Chihiro cosplayer I know did not decide to cosplay this for my anime club's Christmas party.

Check out this thing I made while shoveling show off my patio.

It's an igloo I made out of a snow drift for a little bear statuette I have in my backyard, complete with solar-powered landscape lights (though I expect those lights aren't getting much charge today)!

Commiserations to Professor Voodoo for being at sea on Christmas - surely they couldn't at least head back in and moor up on Christmas Day of all days? Anyway, I hope that you make the best of it and that Father Christmas has a crossdecking operation during the night watch. Wink

Going back to Kiskaloo's opening post, and talking about it turning Christmas in Japan, I was reading Neo Magazine's Christmas edition recently and in their J-Life section they said that it's apparently de riguer for couples to share a romantic bucket of KFC, and that KFC outlets take bookings as early as October.

With the right background, that pic would make an awesome Christmas desktop. Too bad I suck at picture editing.

I knew Christmas is considered more of a romantic holiday in Japan. I didn't know about the KFC thing though. Though for some reason I remember a bucket of KFC chicken popping up in the first episode of the original All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku OVA though. That episode started off on Christmas eve, but the character involved were family rather than a romantic couple. They also seemed to have gotten there's at a drive through or something. I don't know if that was something the animators chose to do deliberately or whether it was before that trend started?

Anyway, still a little while to go over here. I think aside from perhaps a few islands somewhere in the Pacific, those of us over here on the west coast of North America are pretty much the last people to celibrate any particular holiday thanks to the time zones. Laughing

Thank you for your regards, Robert, but I don't get paid for taking days off, and I enjoy getting paid. I'm single and live 1400 miles from family; I volunteer to work the holidays so the married folks with families can have off. This is 4 of the last 5 Christmas' I've worked, it's no big deal.

Cute story to give you all diabetes if you don't have it already: My 6 year old niece sent me a message via her grandmother's (my mother's) FaceBook account. She asked how Santa Claus lands his sleigh on my boat.

Answer: Easy, we have a helicopter deck.

Enjoy your holiday!

Well, here in the northern part of Texas, we've got icy roads and, believe it or not, snow! I think this is the first white Christmas I've ever seen. It's really cool (though more in a literal sense). Oh yeah, and yesterday it was warm enough to wear a t-shirt and shorts... That's Texas weather for you! Laughing

I imagine one of the big problems with snow in a place like Texas is that there would be pretty much no specialised equipment available to deal with it (although one of the major airports did seem to be able to de-ice planes). Cities in the area I live in are rather poorly equipped to deal with snowfall in comparison to a lot of the other parts of Canada (we get complacent due to living in a mild area just above the border and close to the western coast) but at least we get it often enough to have some snowplows and stuff around to deal with it.

We actually have sand trucks, though we only get ice a few times a year. The real issue is people get scared and drive really slow and few drive too fast, so the traffic's no fun.

Weather in Tokyo is clear and cool (10°C) so we didn't need to bundle up too much for the Ghibli Museum, Tokyo Tower and such. Though the slog back to the hotel after stuffing myself at XMAS dinner was tough. Wink

enjoy the years of drunken debauchery, tsun. they pass quicker than one would imagine.

I still live at home when I'm not in residence, so for me Christmas this year wasn't really all that different from in years past. I guess I don't have as much trouble getting into it as a lot of people my age do. There's a lot of stuff I still like doing, I guess (my family has a fair number of Christmas traditions).

18.1, and it's cozy indoors (though the rain yesterday wasn't fun). It's snowing now, so I guess it's officially still a white Christmas. Relatively uneventful day really, but it was fun. Reanbell did wish me a Merry Christmas though, and it was incredibly cute. (And yes, the End of Eternity/Resonance of Fate demo is pretty sweet. It was my first download after making a Japanese PSN.)

Anyways, Merry Christmas everyone. Next up, New Years.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, or whatever it is you might celebrate.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A question... Have you ever been tremendously sad, but the tears won't come out?... That's how I feel right now. My heart is overflowing with tears, but they just won't come out of my eyes. At night, when I'm asleep, they quietly spill out onto the pillow without my noticing.

Edit: Not exactly Christmas-related specifically, but here's some pics of Yuki Nagato in winter attire:

There's something about winter Nagato that just makes you want to invite her in out of the cold....

Yet another edit: Just ticked over to 12:00 pm on December 25 here.

Here's a few Christmas-ey images featuring Sheryl and Ranka from Macross Frontier. Interestingly enough there's actually a Macross Frontier Christmas Album now -it's called Cosmic Cuune and it's actually pretty good. Better than some of the Christmas songs I've been hearing on the radio lately at any rate. Laughing

Merry Christmas from Tennessee! We might even get a white Christmas for the first time in...well, as long as I can remember! *fingers crossed*

Have a safe one!

I'm actually a hardcore otaku who likes maids more than having three meals in a day and I only read books related to maids. Also, I only visit maid cafes. Of course I also collect maid figurines, I play games which feature maids and it turns me on so much that I'll wear the maid uniforms and jump in joy.
