Rules for this round are basically the same as the last. Again.

Match One:

This
student attends the same high school as Yukari and had a reputation as a straight laced, straight A student – a reputation she disliked. So when Yukari tells her she’s free to visit the SSA’s facility in the Soloman Islands as a way of thanking her for helping save some goldfish, and that going into space really isn’t that hard, this girl is all too happy to try and become an SSA astronaut. Only one problem: she’s physically weak – she weighs under 80 pounds – and is subject to fainting under as little as 4G. Despite this, the SSA decides to hire her anyway and just relegate her to roles where she doesn’t have to be conscious during high G manuveurs, because aside from being able to fit into tight spots to make repairs, she’s just that smart – not many girls can calculate square roots while wearing a mask that simulates rapid changes in atmospheric pressure. However, she finds her skintight spacesuit embarrassing to wear in front of the media. Here’s Rocket Girl’s Akane Miura.

Primula of Shuffle!

I'm not familiar with Shuffle! at all, so all this is based on what I read on Wikipedia. A stoic and calm girl, Primula is the token loli of the Shuffle! series. She is an artificial life form created by experiments done by the gods and devils. She can always be seen carrying a stuffed cat doll around with her.

Cursed by both the boy she rejected and the girl who liked said boy, this very shy, very cute 14 year old girl ends up being saved by the guy who always deals with girl’s supernatural problems in her area: AKA her best friend’s high school aged older brother. Whom she has a major
unrequited crush on. She is known for acting as if said friend’s older brother couldn’t possibly think of her in a dirty way since he’s three years older, however, it is not clear if she’s just that naively innocent or if she’s really a closet pervert behind all that shyness. She also takes much of her fashion advice from said friends’s older brother’s lesbian friend, and much of this advice is rather sketchy in nature. Gets very flustered and embarrassed around girls who she thinks might constitute “competition”. Here’s Bakemonogatari’s Nadeko Sengoku:

Born in Hinamizawa, Japan and stricken with a mysterious illness that causes severe paranoia and general insanity in herself (and her friends), she has died and been reborn countless times (she has lived over 100 years worth of past lives). Match Two:

A sweet and kind-hearted vampire with a cheerful and positive personality. Though good natured, she possesses a bit of naivety that draws her into problematic situations. Just plain hot as a Super Vampire teen, she's pretty cute as a little Super Vampire girl. Here's Rosario + Vampire's Moka Akashiya (赤夜 萌香):

A very young test subject from a research facility specializing in mutated humans known as 'diclonus'. Though she spent the first six years of her life undergoing torturous testing of her superhuman abilities, she maintains a sunny disposition and is very loyal to her 'Papa' (the man who was in charge of the testing facility, who sometimes showed her small kindnesses). Let loose in the outside world, she is hopelessly naive as to the workings of human society... but honestly, who could hold that against her? Here's Nana from Elfen Lied.

While she puts up a cute face, she turns vicious and unmerciful in battle. However, once Shiro defeats her, she becomes much tamer and sees him as an older brother (which he ironically is by adoption). She aids him in his quest to win the Holy Grail War and also loli glomps him.

Ugh... Well, I have to make a decision. This'll be hard, but, well, it has to be done. I'm not abstaining from this one. That would not be honourable. But this really is difficult. On one hand, I have Nana, who is very cute and is from Elfen Lied, which is not only my favourite anime, but also better than any book I've read or movie I've watched. However, Ilya is very, very cute, and is from Fate/Stay Night, which I hold in almost as high regard as Elfen Lied. It's a major decision. This match could really go either way. None of the rest of the tournament matters; this is the crux of it. This is where I decide which character, both I highly value, will go on. Yeah.

But I digress. I must make my decision, and I must make it now. So, in the end, I must say that this match I shall vote for the very, very cute, endearing, lovable, tragic, awesome...

Ilya of Fate/Stay Night.

Yep. I made the decision. Why her? It's because in the end, this is a cute character tournament. As great as my allegiance to either series is, I must cast that away and vote based on who really should win this. I had to really think about either of them, really look at their characters and actions, and determine who deserved the vote. And really, she really ought to win. She's really cute, but more than that, she's a tragic character. Despite all of the happy things that may happen to her, she never really has a good future ahead of her. She would like this simple act of appreciaction for her hard work, her determination, her cuteness, and the end she never should have to get. I hope more people vote for her. I really sympathize for the poor girl. As cute as she is, she's treated by very few characters in her series as anything more than a tool, getting little attention, and less sympathy and care. But she's still just a little girl, and she doesn't deserve the nasty things that happen to her throughout her series. That's why I voted for this very special, very cute girl.

I stand by my choice and opinion. That is all.

The GsG girls are cute, no doubt, but they're definitely more on the "realistically cute" spectrum. When I think anime cute I go for moe (which I'm still not sure I know the REAL definition for). And I don't don't see that in the GsG series.

I've been told true 'moe' is basically a feeling that the viewer gets. Something along the lines of 'the character makes your brain turn to mush' or something like that. If correct that makes 'true' moe a very relative thing (case in point: by that definition Natsuki Kuga is for me pretty much the ultimate moe character. I was also the only person who voted for her last round).

But over here, moe is used a lot to refer to a certain style of cute that for some reason I find difficult to define. All I know is that the sort of moe that's commonly accepted as moe over her doesn't really do it for me.

Outfox was the one who explained the stuff about 'true' moe to me, he might be able to shed some light on the issue.

A Pembroke Welsh Corgi with extraordinary intelligence, as a "data dog" he often shows heightened awareness of events going on around him.
He can answer the telephone, steer a car, play shogi, and generally perform tasks that an average canine should not be able to accomplish. Why? Because he's a penguin and penguins are awesome! Pen-Pen is Misato's pet that lives in a customized refrigerator in Misato's apartment. He likes hot springs, warm baths, drinking beer, and eating whatever. Plus he's an intelligent penguin. Don't you want to just give him a hug?

Match Two:

When Yui and company attempt to recruit new club members, they received the interest of only one first year. Initially, said first year is timid and has difficulty fitting in with said club due to their lack of seriousness, at one point basically snapping in frustration and going on a major rant. Eventually, however, begins enjoying the club for what it is. She’s actually a much more talented guitarist than Yui but is reluctant to steal the spotlight from her senpai. A child prodigy, having skipped five grades to 10th grade (first year in Japanese high school) at the start of the series, yet she is still top of the class. Such grade-skipping would be unthinkable in Japan, and the series humorously explores its potential consequences. The other characters find her amazingly cute, but sometimes take advantage of both her youthfulness and her scholastic abilities. Her diminutive stature leads to her having a lack of confidence, particularly in sports where she fears she is a burden to others. her is frequently viewed with jealousy by fellow students, initially because of her intelligence, but later also because of the discovery that her family is exceedingly wealthy (they own an enormous mansion and a summer house, which she invites her classmates to visit on several occasions). The stylistic rendering of her pigtails allow for several visual gags in both the manga and anime: Osaka often imagines them to be flapping wings, or even entities independent of their owner. At home, she can almost always be found in the company of her enormous dog, Tadakichi-san.
