Anime/ Manga Teams and Organizations Tourney Nominations

Well, I've done enough on my regular hangout at AC. Let's see what I can do here for a tournament.

Anime has had it's nice number of organized teams and organizations that stick out well in the eyes of anime fans whether they are military/ government organizations, school clubs, sentai groups, detective agencies, crime syndicates, music bands, etc... I'm looking to have a tournament featuring 32 anime teams and organizations that folks here would like to see butt heads in this tourney. Here are rules for nominations (which for the most part should be quite similar to how Triela and Piero run things):

1. For me to make a nomination for the tourney official, you need to put up a description of the team/ organization you'd like to see featuring some details on the group and what title they are from. Said description must come with a picture of the team's members and/or their signature logo (whatever is easiest to get). The picture must be no bigger than 640x480 resolution.

2. A second vote for a nominated team is required for a team/ organization to be entered.

3. No more than two teams/ organizations are allowed in this tourney per anime title. I want to try having variety with the anime exposure with the tourney. In the event more than two teams get nominated, the first two teams from said title to be seconded will represent that title. If enough folks have a problem with this rule, I'll lift it.

4. Once 32 teams have been seconded, nominations will be complete and I'll start up the tourney.

Otherwise, go ahead and vote to your heart's content.

First up, Ghost in the Shell's Public Security Section 9:

Public Security Section 9 was established as a search and rescue organization. Officially billed as an international organization, it is actually a counter-terrorist network and anti-crime unit operating in the Japanese National Public Safety Commission. Its operatives are allowed to act with or without government consent as they are almost unknown to the public eye. In particular, Section 9 and its members are among the best cyber warfare operatives in the country, and as a result usually end up involved in case relating to the internet, such as hacking and cyberterrorism.

Even though they were totally wiped out at the end of the first episode, I still think that Ga-Rei Zero's Paranormal Disaster Countermeasure Headquarters under the Japanese Ministry of Defense looked cool for the 20 minutes they were around.

I need at least a few sentences of info on the Paranormal Disaster Countermeasure Headquarters, Kisk.

There is precious little, since they were just a smokescreen by the producers to hide the fact that the show was a prequel to the Ga-Rei manga. So they spent no time on them or what they did and killed them all off in the first episode so they could get them out of the way and tell the prequel.

Essentially their job is to fight various evil paranormal forces plaguing Japan in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment's Supernatural Disaster Countermeasures Division, who perform the same function. They use military equipment modified to fight paranormal opponents instead of biological ones.

Piero is a fan of the show, as I recall, so he might be able to add something (or at least a second).

I still have fansubs for Ga-Rei Zero around (in fact, I have more than one version of the first episode) so I can look into the issue, but it won't be until later today.

I'd also like to if possible call dibs on nominating Full Metal Panic's Mithril. I've read fan translations of the later novels and done some internet research, so I'm aware of some things about the organisation that aren't made obvious in the anime adaptations. Is that all right?

The UN Special Agency Nerv is an organization led by Gendo Ikari and tasked with defending Earth against the Angels through use of the Evangelion units.



It was formerly known as Gehirn, a UN Research Agency. It was reorganized into Nerv once Nerv HQ and Tokyo-3 became fully operational. There are several global branches of Nerv besides the main headquarters under Tokyo-3 itself.
The Nerv Logo is half a fig leaf covering its name, with the motto "God's In His Heaven... All's Right With The World" forming the quarter circle on the bottom.

Ghost Stories Team

When nearby construction disturbs a spiritual resting place, its disgruntled denizens terrorize the local school and a scruffy band of young ghostbusters come together to expel their new satanic schoolmates.

Led by the spunky Satsuki Miyanoshita, the band also includes the evangelical, Pentecostal Christian Momoko, lecher Hajime and Jewish Paranormal Researcher Leo. Oh, and Satsuki's unintelligible babbling cry-baby brother, Keiichirou. Despite their best efforts, they somehow manage to solve mystery after mystery with the help of a diary of Satsuki's lesbian mother when she was a student at the school and originally sealed away all the ghosts released by the construction group.

Full Metal Panic's MITHRIL is a secretive international paramilitary organisation that was formed with the covert support of several nations after the detonation of a nuclear device in Iraq during the waning days of the Gulf War in 1992. They are heavily involved in counter-terrorism and preventing the proliferation of advanced weapons systems. The operate from a network of hidden installations around the world and specialise in precise, highly coordinated surgical strike missions in wide ranging geographic locals. To do this, they rely heavily on both cutting edge technology and highly trained personnel. In additional to purchasing weapons systems from friendly nations, MITHRIL also has it's own Research and Development branch which has made use of the so-called so called Black Technology provided by Whispered such as Teletha Testarossa. Products of this R&D work include the Electro Magnetic Fluidics Control (EMFC) system on the assault submarine TDD-1 Tuatha De Danaan and the Lambda Driver system used by the ARX-7 Arbalest.

Full Metal Panic may no longer be my absolute favorite anime series, but it's still at least my second favorite.

Fairy Tail,a guild of wizards in the country of Fiore,a meeting place and family for many of the oddball wizards who join,its latest applicant being a teenage girl called Lucy Heartfilia who is a celestial wizard,using keys to summon spirits to do her bidding !

Considering I have familiarity with Section 9, I'll second support for them so they have a spot for the tourney.

I second Fairy Tail and add this image of the team's main characters:

A team of pirates/mercenaries who smuggle goods in and around the seas of Southeast Asia from the fictional city of Roanapur in Thailand in a 24m Elco-type PT boat. They do business with various clients, but have a particularly friendly relationship with the Russian crime syndicate Hotel Moscow. The team takes on a variety of missions—which may involve violent firefights, hand-to-hand combat, and nautical battles—in various Southeast Asian locations.

Meet the loveable misfits of The Lagoon Company.

For the Ga-Rei Zero nomination:

A Special Operations team consisting of people who have the ability to see the supernatural. They are one of the units created by the Japanese Ministry of Defense's Supernatural Disaster Prevention Headquarters to combat an increase in supernatural disturbances. They employ a variety of equipment, much of it spirtually enhanced, including ammunition with runes engraved in it and a tilt rotor aircraft capable of deploying large quantities of holy water. They were very effective in combating Category B spirtual disturbances (including one that had devastated another platoon) but were completely wiped out when they encountered Supernatural Disaster Category A Yomi Isoyama, a former Ministry of the Environment exorcist who had gone rogue and been corrupted by a demonic artifact. Here's the 1st Platoon of Ga-Rei Zero's STS Section Four.

(For the record, the 1st Platoon was doomed from the start due to the fact that the first episode of Ga-Rei Zero was essentially an elaborate viral marketing effort. Ga-Rei Zero was intended to be a prequel to the Ga-Rei manga that focused on characters from the manga, with the focus on the new characters of the 1st Platoon prior to their sudden demise being intended to trick the audience into thinking it would be about something else.)

Outlaw Star

The crew of the Outlaw Star are a montly bunch of diverse individuals who somehow are able to work together. Composed of outlaw Gene Starwind, who is ble to reach for the stars; Jim Hawking, tbe brain and hacker who compliments Gene in a Yin/Yang relationshsip; Aisha Clan-Clan, an alien Ctarl-Ctarl officer of superhuman strength; "Midnight" Suzuka, an assasin who joined because it was "interesting"; Melphina, the bio-android who is the ships navigator; and the Gilliam II, the ships computer that seems to have doubts, and be amazed that they are unfounded.

They've taken on, and beaten, magic weilding space pirates and unlocked the secret of ancient civilizations with ullitmate power

I'll second nominations for Outlaw Star Crew and Lagoon Company.

A mercenary company travelling with the 25th Large Scale Colonization Fleet Macross Frontier. Prior to contact with the Vajra, they were employed primarily to do reconnaissance runs that were deemed too expensive to do with units from the regular military. When contact with the Vajra was made, they were sent to the front lines, where they became a key component in the fleet’s defence due to the poor readiness of the regular forces. The company was known to employee two fighter squadrons: Skull Squadron, a human squadron led by former military pilot Ozma Lee that was equipped with VF-25 Variable Fighters that the company had been given for field testing, and Pixie Squadron, an all-female Zentraedi squadron equipped with Queadluun-Rhea battle suits that was led by Captain Klan Klein. They also deployed a heavyweight shuttlecraft/bomber unit and a small carrier/warship referred to as the Macross Quarter. The company’s personnel split upon discovery of a conspiracy within the fleet’s government, with some of their number going rouge while others elected to stay with the fleet, however both groups ended up playing a decisive role in allowing the colonization fleet to survive. I might replace the pic with something better after I have a chance to get ahold of the Macross Frontier fansubs which I think I may have left at home. Anyone got some ideas on improving that description? I'm not sue it does an overly good job for those who aren't already familiar with the series...

Seeing as there hasn't been much going on in here, I'll make my own nominations:

In 1983 in the town of Hinamizawa, this school club of kids normally play competitive games against one another where the loser(s) are subjected to humiliating "penalty games." However, the club finds itself entangled in the town's mysteries where in the show's various arcs, either one of the members wind up going murderously insane to kill the others or they are victims of a national conspiracy that is being plotted behind the backs of the town's powerful families. Here's Higurashi no Naku Koro ni's Game Club.


This school club was started up by the titular character's self-centered and impulsive actions to create a club to track down of the paranormal such as espers, aliens and time travelers where she drags in normal student Kyon and three other students. But unknown to Haruhi, the three students are actually paranormal agents who have been sent to monitor the girl due to her power to alter reality. Kyon finds himself having to aid these three students in preventing Haruhi from becoming bored enough to literally destroy the universe. Here's The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya's SOS Brigade.



And being a Gunslinger Girl forum, I'm surprised this group hasn't been nominated yet:

On the surface, this organization exists to help provide rehabilitation to critically ill and injured children. In reality, it's a top-secret, counter-terrorist military organization that makes use of injured and sick girls as cyborg assassins. Each of these girls are paired as a "fratello" with a trainer known as a handler who is responsible for the training and well-being of their young protege. Relationships of the fratellos vary between being siblings to tools of the trade. Here's Gunslinger Girl's Social Welfare Agency.

the three original girls of the light music club are desperate to save their club from closure fortunately a new girl at the school with no idea what to do with herself joins their club,unfortunately she can only play the castenets but she quickly learns how to play the guitar helped by her perfect pitch !

This isn't something I can answer too well myself without giving into my personal hatred of K-ON. But on my end from what I seen of the show, they seemed to act more like a circle of friends than a team/ organization.

Well they are technically a club, but it is true that they spend their time goofing off, eating cake and drinking tea. Which is likely something an organization would not do.

Seconds the Game Club of Higurashi

Might as well try to revive interest in setting up this tourney.

This trio of Paper Masters provide support for one another both as a surrogate family of siblings and when engaging in missions. Having different personalities and skills to draw upon with their paper magic, each of the girls help balance out the weaknesses and personality flaws of one another to keep them safe in battle or prevent them from getting too out of control in normal living situations. Consisting of well-endowed bibliomaniacs Maggie Mui and Michelle Chang plus 12-year old spitfire Anita King, here are R.O.D The TV's Paper Sisters.

Could find a good picture of them but I want to nominate Terminal from Gundam seed destiny. Terminal is run by Lacus Clyne and manged to hide both the Archangel and the Eternal after the first war. Terminals main focus is information gathering using the photojournalist Miralia Hawe as one of their agents. With the assualt on ORB Terminal comes out of hiding with new top of the line equipment and helps to fight off ZAFT and defeat Gilbert Durandals ambitions.

If you can find at least a group logo, I'll take their nomination.

Attacked Mystification Police Force (AMP) -- Silent Möbius

An all female police group whose entire reason for existing is to stave off an invasion from Hell (actually another dimention filled with "Lucifer Hawks" comprised of mysterious Rally Cheyenne, cyborg Kiddy Phenil, Katsumi Liqueur (the daughter of the most powerful sorcerer and sorceress), Shinto priestess Nami Yamigumo, ESPer Yuki Saiko, and cybernetically uplinked Lebia Maverick.



Dirty Pair (Dirty Pair_

WWWA agents codenames "Lovely Angels" -- they are better known as the "Dirty Pair" due to the fact that, despite it never being their fault, their cases usually result in absolute distruction, usually of the planetary scale!



Hellsing (Hellsing)

Comprised of former police girl?vampirella Seras Victoria, Alucard (read that backwards), and the woman who controls them and others absolutely, Sir Integra Hellsing -- they can take on undead NAZIs and insane archbishops and Catholic regenerators!



The Goddesses (Ah! My Goddess!)

Present, future, and past, they are kind and caring, but also capable to defeating the devil herself!



Kight Sabers (Bubblegum Crisis)

Mercenaries for hire, they can take on the world's most powerful organization (Genom Corporation) and fight off "Boomers." Comprised of leader Sylia Stingray, Rock Star/Badass Priss Asagiri, computer hacker Nene Romanova, and Linna Yamazaki.



Knight Sabers (Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040)

The group from the Tokyo 2040 alternate series, comprising of th same girls, but this time not working for hire, and dealing with a madman within Genom who wants to wipe out humanity and replace it with the children of "Galatia"

I can't take the Dirty Pair since a group needs to consist of at least three members for this tourney and the Goddesses since they they're more of a romantic comedy harem from what I've heard of them. The rest I've added to the list above with a few that I need some more details for before I add them for nominations.

The Pair are part of a larger organization, and we've seen other members from them active in the TV series, at least.

Slayers from the anime of the same name. Lead by Lina Inverse they roam the world for various reasons leaving various amounts of damage in their wake courtesy of their Leader Lina Inverse. Often plauged by mazoku they end up saving the world on occasion. Other members include the justice crazy crown princess of Sairune Amelia Sairune. The chimera searching for a cure Zelgadis. Not to be left out is the idiot swordsman Goury.

The black knights lead by the mysterous zero, fight for justice and to free japan from the tyranical Britanian occupation. What began as a small terrorist cell became the force that eventually liberated Japan. Other members incluce C.C., Kallen Kouziki/ Statfield, Ohgi kaname, and others.

Can i second the paper sisters, AMP, and both versions of the knightsabers

@crazyidiot: Your seconding has been accepted. But I'll no longer be taking Bubblegum Crisis teams since there are two of them in the tourney now.

What exactly is the focus here? Is it what group would win in a fight? Or which one is the coolest?

Tokkei First Brigade from DOLLS
Their job is to hunt down and execute criminals, and they are the best out of 47 brigades. While kind and caring people off duty, these three become ruthless killers when preforming their job. (Sorry for the short description - it's been ages since I've read this series. I'll expand it later.)

A specialized force created to find Kira. It is comprised of the top police investigators and L - the world's brightest detective. They risk their lives in the name of justice in order to take down the greatest criminal the world has ever known.

Mughi, from a race of cat-like intellegent aliens, is also part of the "Lovely Angels" team. Would he count for the third?

Army of the Southern Cross -- The army of the planet Glorie, the second and most recently terraformed planet, which is in an elliptical orbit around the Epsilon Eridani system. Jeanne Fránçaix is leader of the 15th Squad in the Southern Cross' Alpha Tactics Armored Corps which utilizes variable mecha. Her team often lead some of the most dangerous mission against the Zor, an alien race where they are all triplet that act like a single person, who are trying to return back to their own planet which the humans have colonized.



Gunsmith Cats -- Though ostensibly running a gunshop, the Gunsmith Cats are bounty hunters who not only take on bail jumpers, but bombers, assassins, psychos, the mafia, and corrupt polititions from the lesbian mafia dominatrix Goldy to psychopath Grey -- though the bounty hunting is considered a fun "hobby."

Rally & Bean Bandit

While not an organization per se, the HiME from Mai-HiME are a group of specially chosen girls that have to work together to stop the Orphans and the antagonists behind them from destroying the world. While they don't always get along very well, they do generally fight for the same cause. They all have a Child, which is their supernatural companion, as well as a unique magical power or weapon. The three main members are in the picture below, from left to right: Mikoto, Mai, and Natsuki.

@MadHatChemist: Forgot all about Mughi. He often assists Yuri and Kei on missions, so yes he counts. I'll allow the Lovely Angels for the tourney.

@Kodoku: It's a tourney where you judge which group/ organization shows the best chemistry, teamwork and organization with whatever they're doing in their series.

@Five_X: I'll accept them as HIME Rangers for the tourney since they were together briefly to deal with Alyssa's takeover of Fuuka Academy.

I'll toss in some more teams for folks to decide on:

A group of mercenaries formed and led by the charismatic Griffith, the Band of the Hawk from Berserk raked in victory after victory for the kingdom of Midland thanks to the strategies organized by Griffith and the skills and ferocity of their warriors such as second-in-command Caska, the heavy sword wielding Guts, knife-throwing Judeau and the warhammer-wielding large man Pippin.


This rock band formed by talented guitarist Ryusuke worked on polishing and improving their musical and singing skills as they struggled to land a big opportunity in the music industry while dealing with crooked record label executive, Leon Sykes. Here's the titular band of their series, Beck.


The troublesome trio of Jesse, James and Meowth have always born a thorn in the sides of Ash and his friends throughout Pokemon's 10+ year run as they try snatching Pokemon away from trainers to offer to their boss, Giovanni, in the organization's plans for world domination. Here's Team Rocket.


This school club consists of six of the school's most attractive boys and a cross-dressing girl in the guise of a male member. Taking on a number of shoujo manga archetypes for their services, the members of this club cater to their mostly female customers by organizing the music room that serves as their clubroom into elaborate themes each day they are open. Here's the titular club of their series, the Ouran High School Host Club.

I second Beck. Also, I think the Afternoon Tea Club from K-On! counts.

Uh, guys, I happen to like both sets of characters, but I kind of have to question the inclusion of the HiME and the three sisters from AMG. Midori's HiME-sentai are kind of a joke (although I guess they did work together on one important incident after their formation, and there is the aforementioned Searrs incident that led to their formation). Mostly, the HiME are a group of individuals, some of who work with each other, but rarely in anything more than small groups. As for Urd, Belldandy, and Skuld, those three aren't even really a formal team or organisation. They do work for the same overarching organisation, but mostly they're just three sisters who happen to be quite close.

Well, Piero, you have to also remember that I mainly nominated Mikoto, Mai and Natsuki out of all the HiME. Midori mainly gave them a name and alcohol.
