Thunderballing

Post by Kiskaloo on Wed 10 Mar 2010 - 14:39

Martin Jetpack of New Zealand have announced they are now taking orders for their new product.

It offers 30 minutes of flight time at a maximum speed of 100km/h. It's self-stabilizing and even comes with a parachute should you run the tank dry or suffer an engine failure in flight.

Of course, I don't think Sean Connery or an OC cyborg will be using it to sneak up on a location as it is not exactly quiet... Wink

Great name for the thread Kisk...now I can't get Tom Jones' voice out of my head.

As far as the jetpack goes...awesome. Resist, Voodoo, resist...you've already got too many ridiculously expensive hobbies.

Given that they're powered by lulz and the Rule of Cool, my OC fratello might just use this. Ah, I can imagine it now...

Two Padanian lackies, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, are guarding a secret Padanian base, where their bosses do secret Padanian stuff. Y'know, like kick puppies and eat babies.

Rosencrantz: It's a pity that we're regular mooks, isn't it, Guildenstern?

Guildenstern: Indeed, Rosencrantz. We just stand around here while the higher ups do their super secret business.

Rosencrantz: Yes, why don't we get to do any wanton villainy?

Guildenstern: Well, it's obviously be- wait, what's that buzzing sound?

Rosencrantz: Whatever do you mean, Guildenstern?

Guildenstern: It's like a... giant mosquito, or something. Are there mosquitoes in Italy this time of year?

Rosencrantz: Not that I know of. I believe they don't like the winter cold all too much.

Guildenstern: Agh, it's getting louder. Really damn annoying, I must say.

Rosencrantz: Well hold on. Do you see that? Something's coming up from the trees! It's-

Guildenstern: What... the shit?

Rosencrantz: It's a teenage girl in a jetpack. What the hell is going on?

Guildenstern: Oh, dearie. This is just too funny. Laughing Laughing

Guildenstern: Something is rotten in the state of Denmark indeed...

Rosencrantz: Should we... shoot them, or something?

Guildenstern: I doubt it'd do anything, but it's worth a try, just to get rid of that buzzing.

*Brakka-Brakka-Brakka-Brakka* (to no avail)

Charlotte: What kind of bloody stupid idea was this, Greg!? I'm sticking out like a really sore thumb right here!

Greg: *takes pictures* This is so awesome.

Charlotte: Aaaaargh!!

Rosencrantz: This is kind of fun, I must admit.

Guildenstern: Very true. It's rare that we get to shoot at a girl flying around in a jetpack.

Charlotte: Damnit, let's just bugger off, shall we?

Greg: Oh, fine. But if you say you didn't go flying around, I've got pictures to prove it!

Charlotte: Hand those over!

Guildenstern: I'm hungry.

Rosencrantz: As am I. Let's just leave these two to their bickering.

FIN.

So the Padania's been taking marksmanship lessons from the Imperial Stormtroopers?

Hmm, jetpack doesn't really look like it'd fit in the back of a DB5 though... or an Audi for that matter

The cyborgs and handlers are all lined up for the latest technology department demonstration... which comes low howling over the trees before pulling into a hover in front of the crowd and settleing to the ground. Engines die and the crowd applauds.

Monty (applauding politely, 'cause it's the done thing) - I don't know. It's impressive and all, but it's a tad loud and shouty don't you think?

Kara - You're wearing a YSL day dress in Mondrian print. You don't get to accuse anyone of being "loud and shouty".

Monty - This is perfectly quiet and sober thank you very much. Either way, it's too large to fit in the car. The old Q-branch version may only have had 30 seconds of thrust, but at least you could stow it fast, and it goes nicely with a suit.

Beyond the obvious expense of skin replacement, I thought Marisa was the only cyborg with a propensity for carelessly letting eveyone know what color underwear she has on.

The boy-borgs of Danjo's tales certainly have invested a lot more money in binoculars since Kara started her jet-pack training...

Well Kara does try to keep the "Strike Witches Moments" to a minimum when in public when wearing mini skirts and mini-dresses that emphasize the "mini" part. Embarassed

But when on the compound, she's a bit less...diligent... sweat

And when she's with Michele, she figures he bought them so if he didn't want to see them... Wink

Ah...so I gather Kara might be smiling dumbly during these lapses in decorum around her handler...

As for mini-skirts; Elio holds a bit more authority over his young cyborg's wardrobe than Michele probably does, and he tries to keep the hem lines age-appropriate. Try as he might though, Mari is still...well...Mari.

I had to look up what Strike Witches refered to. Where do you guys see all of these series? I checked Netflix, but that particular one (as well as many of the titles discussed here) is not yet available. Are you watching them on Youtube or something?

Hmm... you know, now that I think about it, that thing does seem more like one of leg prop units from Strike Witches then a true jetpack, mainly as that thing uses propellers, and a true jetpack, by definition would have to use a jet engine.

Also, anyone have any idea how much of a RADAR signature that thing would have, and would it be possible to get a lock on it with say, a Stinger or something, or for that matter, how easy do you think it would be to hit with small arms fire.

True, but they're always flying patterns around the county and calling them "exercises". Hell, I know a joyride when I see one. I can see it know.

HQ: Come in Delta 1, Delta 1 come in; Bullseye are you there; over.
Bullseye: Delta 1 here, what's the scuttle, HQ; over.
HQ: Delta 1, we have an unidentified bogey due forty clicks east of your location; break off your route and investigate; over.
Bullseye: Roger that HQ, breaking off in pursuit of bogey; over.
Gooch: Need some backup Bullseye?
Bullseye: If you want Gooch, probably some kid throwing foil around a firecracker loaded rocket again ( Evil ).
Gooch: Fine by me.Let's scare the piss out of that pansy.

-Later-

Bullseye: What the fuck is that?
Gooch: Shit if I know. They filming a Rocketeer sequel or somethin'?
Bullseye: God, I hope not. That movie sucked harder than your mom after a bottle of Jack.
Gooch: Fuckin' asshole!
Bullseye: Oh well, I call dibs.
Gooch: The hell you do. You had the last one.
Bullseye: I am the lead, you are my wingman. So, I call dibs and that's it.
Gooch: Alright boss, I...FIREONEFOXTWO!
Bullseye: Gooch, you fucking bastard, I already called it!!!

Just more along the lines she likes to sleep "unencumbered" so if the t-shirt she's wearing over her underwear happens to ride up a bit when she stretches or moves, well so be it. Wink

That being said, Ilaria has accused Kara of "smiling dumbly" on more than one occasion.

I use fansubs. AnimeSuki is a solid choice, but they don't list stuff that has been licensed so I also use http://www.tokyotosho.info/

Ferro walks up to a collection of them huddled around an 18cm telescope.

"What's going on here?" she demands.

"We're practicing astronomy! The girls all get to do it, so we asked our handlers to buy us a telescope, as well."

"At three o'clock in the afternoon?" Ferro asks, skeptically.

"We're taking pictures of craters on the day side of the moon!" one of the boys responds, pointing to the attached SLR camera.

"The moon is over that way," Ferro responds, icily, pointing in a direction about 70° east of the current aiming spot, which happens to be the Flight Test Range.

So the rolls of film get turned into the SWA lab for developing. Unfortunately, they give the developed prints to Marisa to deliver, so a mix-up inevitably occurs...

Paolo: Ohhhh man, they're here! I'm gonna need a little privacy with these, boys!
Stefano: Back off, ass wipe...let us all get a good look before you get them all stuck together!
Marcello: I don't feel comfortable looking at these.
Paolo: Sheesh...you wouldn't.
Stefano: Hey...these are all of Henrietta and Croce! What the fuck!?
Paolo: You're right...what happened to the Kara pics we worked so hard on!?
Marcello: Hey, can I see that one of Giuse at the beach?
Paolo: Fag...

Meanwhile...in the girl's dorm.

Henrietta: Mari just dropped off the photos of my trip to Taormina with Giuse, wanna see?
Triela: Sure!
Claes: Hmmm...these aren't what I expected from you 'Etta.
Henrietta: (flipping through rapidly) I don't get it...these are all of Kara's flight training with the jet pack.
Rico: Gee, you sure took a lot of pics of her underpants.
Henrietta: I don't remember taking these at all! Am I going to die!?!
Triela: Calm down...I'm sure there's some reasonable explanation.

Kara silently walks in and looks over 'Etta's shoulder. She recoils in shock, and begins retreating toward the door without a word.

Triela: No, wait...Kara...this is not what it looks like!
Claes: Yeah...they're the pervs...not me!

Kara hurries back to her room, and immediately wraps herself in a blanket, very "weirded out" by the whole experience.

Ilaria: Hey, are you okay? You look white as a ghost.
Kara: I don't wanna talk about it. But be careful around those Series One girls...they're kinda creepy.
