Sign onto a cargo ship bound for San Francisco as a cook. You already know what you're doing, which puts you way ahead of most ship-board cooks.

Pros: Instead of depleting your funds, you'll make a little cash. Also, you get to wear a sailor's pea-coat and a beard without looking like a hobo.

Cons: Months at sea, maybe motion-sickness, possible rape.

I was just rejected by the girl I liked. At first I was hurt, but now I don't fear rejection nearly as much and actually feel more confident about approaching others. Weird how that works out.

It was a pretty cool sky this evening with just a sliver moon (3%, lit from below) and a very bright Venus and Mercury.

The insomnia bug has bitten me yet again and I can't sleep for the life of me. I am completely out of Melatonin and diphenhydramine scares the living crap out of me.

So aside from that ( sweat ) I have been tooling around with Linux for a while and am really liking it. The Ubuntu GUI looks and feels a lot like old school Mac OS which I loved. And now...a rant:

To all holy heck with you Mac OS X neophytes, Mac OS X is the reason why I completely switched to XP and yes, I'm talking about the lack of backward compatibility. It's kinda hard to get behind a new OS when all your old applications and files are incompatible(re: nigh unusable) upon the upgrade and you can't re-install your older OS because the new OS install completely changed the kernel structure! Ironically; Microsoft would do the exact-same-thing with Vista half a decade later and hope that most folks wouldn't notice (like Apple with OS X), but at least at the time I (and others who switched over due to Mac OS X) knew this song and dance well enough to not be suckered in a second time.

Transmission is a stupid-fast torrent client and due to the nature of Linux itself, file-encryption is a breeze and then some. The best part about it is the seemingly stingy allocation of resources giving it's run on this dinosaur compared to XP running on my (now old) multitasker a run for it's money.

(Old) Multitasker specs:
-3.2 GHz P4 HT
-4 GB DDR2 RAM
-2x 500 GB SATA1 HDs
-ATI All-in-Wonder X800 GT

Current Frankenstein specs:
-1.4 GHz P3
-2 GB DDR RAM
-250 GB PATA HD
-Integrated 128-bit Video

Although I most likely will return to form when my gamer and multitasker get rebuilt and re-install XP on those; with Transmission faster than even Vuze and TOR/Privoxy working even better with Ubuntu than with XP, I just might keep this one around adding a second HD and some more fans to keep her cool. In fact, yes, I believe I just might add a dedicated DLer to my stable.

I use Transmission under OS X and it is indeed amazing. With the right seeders, I can clear two MBs.

No, which is the funny part, the whole town has these odd rules about how modern style houses should look. Back when the house was built the TV antenna rig was on the roof, then moved into the garage's crawl space, we can't have a satellite dish, external antennas, dog run, clothes line, fence, or awnings.

I can see where the historical buildings and homes in the actual town center would need to follow such rules, but being 1.3 miles from the town center where things are less uniform... I've often wondered if the folks in the town hall eat those paint chips from the ceilings...

How conspicuous could this thing possibly be? All the outdoor satellite radio antennae I've seen (they're popular aboard the boats I work on) are just 1 inch squares.

Mine's about 2 years old, its 4 inches by 4 inches and an inch thick designed with a mount arm to attach it to the side of a house or existing satellite dish mounting arm. Right now mine is hidden in a bush on an extending vacuum cleaner handle.

Ahh... planning restrictions, gotta love them. Blame the urban planners, I do. We've got suburbs like that where buildings of modifications to such need to "fit the local character". I'm fairly certain that Paddington for example (yuppie area) you can only have the traditional timber workers' cottages and Queenslander houses that already exist in the area, or if you want to build new you have to use similar styles and materials. Which of course is fine by the people who live in the area as the houses are all made of the local lumber... which at the time was cedar, and with a bit of modification they're suitable for climate as well

Then of course you have the folks who come up with thier own solutions: like taking a vintage photograph of the old buiding and printing it out full size to use as a facade...

...that'd be bloody right too. There's a huge kickup about it a year or so ago and now I can't find a picture.

Just pretty much topped off my day:

I've no idea who gave it to me. I was killing time sketching in the Wintergarden foodcourt and someone just slapped it down on the table in front of me. Unfortunately, in the couple of seconds it took for my brain to register what had happened (long couple of days) they'd run away.

On the very off chance they're reading this: thanks... I actually thought it was really sweet.

And... I am actually safe to talk to: despite the generally grumpy and jaded exterior I don't actually bite. Not unless you'e caught me un-caffinated, but at 4 in the arvo it's usually pretty safe.

I'm happy that Live-Evil is resuming their fansubbing of YAWARA!, still one of my all-time favorite shows.

They stopped at Episode 57 in 2006 when AnimEigo announced they had licensed the show and AnimEigo did release the first 40 (of 124) episodes on DVD, but announced this month they could not secure the license for the remainder of the series. So Live-Evil is picking up where they left off four years ago.

If AnimEigo had not licensed the show, it would have been fansubbed completely by now, but these things happen (I do own the AnimEigo box) and I'm just happy Live-Evil has decided to come back and finish it.

At this point I think your best course of action would be to...

1. Attack Adam Lambert's tour bus.
2. Dispose of his bodyguards & entourage.
3. Keep Adam imprisoned in your basement for the rest of his life.
4. ???????
5. PROFIT!

I know it seems harsh, but to me that looks like your only logical option.

It's not just any old Adam fix Boom Boom! It's Adam's first Glam Nation tour!!! I could potentially get to the front of the crowd (And I WILL fight!) and maybe he would grab my hand! X3

I'm still trying to find decently prices tickets. It's not going well...

Had an excellent time at my HS prom and the post-prom celebration. My date was lovely, the food was good, and I had a 4-in-a-row winning streak in Air Hockey...

Just wish I'd won a prize in the raffle. I can't believe that my arch-nemesis in the Morning announcements program we have at our school--who was too cheap to go to the Prom--won an HDTV.

Something else I'm sad about. I just found out my sister's dog, Buttons' liver is failing her. I hope she makes it till I get home to say goodbye. ;_;

I'm very sorry to hear that...it's always difficult when you know the end is coming for a pet. The best we can do is provide the most comfortable life possible to them in the time they do have left.

I´m sorry about that Triela...
The picture is very cute though ^_^

I´m happy ´cause I just came back from my first Convention ^0^
I now got a photograph of me and James Marsters, me,my aunt and Gareth David-Lloyd and an autograph by Gareth David Lloyd ^__^

We also visited two panels, one for Stargate Atlantis (David Hewlett and Joe Flannigan, they were hilarious) and one Torchwoo/Buffy panel (<3), I was sitting near the Tardis ^_^.... It was really awesome!

I'm happy that I didn't listen to tech support.

About 12 days ago I had a hard-drive failure. After running the self check in BIOS, HP Tech Support advised me that there was absolutely nothing I could do to recover my data (including all the fiction I was working on for this crew). "Don't even try one of those commercial data recovery services" they said, "they'll charge you even though nothing can be done."

Unwilling to accept that, I tackled the problem last night and found the simplest of solutions...the drive boots up just fine in Safe Mode. Marisa Episode #13 is rescued and HP tech support are idiots.

And there was much rejoicing.

I have to say that I love OS X's Time Machine because it keeps an hour-by-hour backup of my entire system, saving me from having to remember to backup and also allowing me to recover individual files.

Windows apparently now has this capability, via third-party software, with Genie Timeline and Oops!Backup.

What I didn't buy was another HP/Compaq. I was only favoring them because they sponsored an F1 team anyway.

I know you're a huge Apple/Mac advocate, and I did consider one as a replacement, but nobody around me carries them. Either way, a backup system can't help you if the computer can't recognize its own hard disk...which is what it was telling me.

True, but by having a "real time" image of my entire HDD, if the one in my iMac or MacBook Pro ever does crash, I just need to replace it, connect my Time Machine HDD and perform a complete restore of my entire system at the time just before it failed (as opposed to how it was when I last remembered to image my computer) so I effectively pick up right where I left off.

So this Time Machine is an external drive separate from the main HDD? I was assuming (perhaps incorrectly) it was just a data back-up program.

Yes, it backs up to an external HDD on an hour by hour basis. So it effectively does a full backup the first time it runs, then performs incremental backups going forward (deleting the oldest incremental backups when it runs out of space, but with my 1TB HDD, I usually have a few weeks worth of data on hand).

So you not only have a full backup of your entire dataset, you also have reversion backups which I admit have saved my arse when I make a major mistake in a file, so I can just recover an earlier edition and start over or I make a change to a file, save it, and decide I don't like that change, so I can recover the version of the file before I made that change.

Does it require a hard-wire connection, or can you do these incremental updates over a wireless network?

You can perform wireless backups via a HDD connected to an Apple Airport Extreme wireless router/gateway and Apple also offers "Time Capsule" which is an Airport Extreme with a built-in 1TB or 2TB HDD.

I use a 1TB Time Capsule so it can support both of my Macs and provide Internet routing and wireless access point.

This was the result of only 25 miles riding this evening. Damn near couldn't see the road in front of me by the time I got home.
