Just need a prayer for a miracle.

Between stubbornness and the law, I am stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Today when I returned from college (around 9:30pm EST), I found my mother on the floor.
Not wanting to get into details, but it seems that she has placed herself there; she has been very sick for the past several days with some kind of stomach ailment. All this time, she did not go to the hospital nor does she want too.

The past 2 days (including today) she seems to improved and started to go out with her friends. Then I come home finding her in a messed up condition. I went by all the rule book plays- she still does not want to see a doctor and gets very agitated when I mention getting an ambulance. Agitated enough to try to get up and fight. So, I calmed her down, she goes back to the floor.

She is complaining about a big headache, similar to the ones I get which are very debilitating. I gave her a couple of tylenol and tried to help her up. She still refuses to get up off the floor, where she wants to sleep. I get like that too when I get these headaches- but this it the first time I ever heard of her getting them.

As long as she is conscious, aware and receptive, and not willing to go see a doc or ambulance crew, I cant do nothing. I'm keeping a watchful eye on her during the night. Maybe she'll get better. If not, I'm sending her the hospital in the morning.

Ugh, that's definately not the sort of situation you want to be in. I've dealt with people that don't want to see a doctor when they really should before as well... it's a bitch of a job trying to talk them around.

I'll definitely keep you and your mother in my thoughts and prayers. I know how hard it can be in this sort of situation, but to have it be your mother is on a whole different level. I've never known much that can be done except to watch them like a hawk until it passes...God willing it will pass though.

I'm guessing your grandmother is much like mine was.

Update: During the night she had a massive stroke.
I sent her to the hospital at 5:30am and was with her until 12noon.

She is in not good condition.

It's situations like these that make me feel like my writing skills are woefully inadequate. I really hope things get better for you two, Elfen. I'm not really sure what else to say.

Saw her at the end of visiting hours, spoke with the neurological team that is assigned to her.
According to them, she had several mini strokes occur at once. They discovered many micro clots in her head and are looking for the source thereof. They also said that she had improved slightly, which they say is a good sign. But she can still stroke out again in the next 4 days, which is the issue as they race to search for the cause.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. I know not everyone is a flaming Roman Catholic like I am, so all well wishes despite of denomination or lack thereof is greatly appreciated. Keep wishing, she needs it. I'll be trying to shake down god for favors.

During the weekend, mom was improving, though how slightly. Saw her today, she looks worse now. Docs say she may have had another small stroke, and are sending her to CT and MRI scans tomarrow to find out.

If she dies, I can deal with that. Its the family issues that I cant deal with. More details on this as it occurs.

Ouch mate. Both my grandparents on Dad's side (I never knew my grandparents on Mum's) suffered a similar series of strokes... so I know how difficult it can be to watch.

Your mother's been in my prayers, Elfen, I hope that things are developing as positively as they can.

Update: CT and MRI scans shows no changes, meaning that she has not had a stroke since entering the hospital. But the docs are concerned for her non-responsiveness. This is the good news.

Bad News- family issues. When is it isn't? This I have to take care of on my own. But for me I need no prayers or well wishes- my mom does. Thus this is the difference...

I'm glad to hear that things have improved, even if it's only a little. Hopefully they will improve a lot more.

Had a meeting with the Stroke Team of the hospital. Some 40 ppl in related expertise from Neurology to Physical Rehab working on her. In the least, she will be in the hospital for another 3 weeks. It depend on how she takes to rehab in the next 10 days (improvement or not).

We'll see how it goes...

the only very minor upside to this is that women tend to recover far better than men from strokes,something to do with the way the female brain is setup allows them to retrain their minds and work around the damaged areas far better than men can ,hopefully this will be the case for your mother,hope she recovers soon !

The corpus callosum in women is 25% larger than in men. Thus there are billions of more connections for information to go through between the two brain halves. But then again, this is also the reason why women are more emotional then men, as the emotions have more connections to go through.

Yes, women do recover faster than men do with strokes. And yes, my mom is a woman, so two pluses there for her.
