Is anyone using Amazon? When I first ordered vol.6 from them, it was due out on Nov. 21. Now they tell me it wont be shipped untill around the end of January. I guess now I'm waiting for the dreaded "Sorry, but this item is no longer being offered" e-mail.
As Mr. Garrison would say, "Jesus tap-dancing Christ!":yaay:

Some people on the Anime News Network forums already have volume 6...

I ordered my copy from The Right Stuf, and it's says "Not shipped from manufacturer" status...

Re: Volume 6 discussion

Post by Sintendo on Sun 9 Dec 2007 - 21:31

Ok, just finished reading volume 6. Sweet. Here's some thing I'd like to point out:

- Sandro isn't that bad of a guy (in this version). It seems like he's just a guy that's probably down on his luck, seeing as how he's kind of reluctant to become a handler in the first place. Maybe something happened when he was with Section 1? Don't know, but for now he's no longer the "Pezze di Merda" that we all thought he was
- The Doctors are really starting to freak me out.
- There's a blurb for Volume 7... There wasn't a blurb in Volume 1 for 2, nor was there a blurb in volume 3 for 4. When both 1 and 3 came out, the future of GSG manga translations were in question (and it took 2 years for each respective sequel to be released). For now, though, we'll just have to play the waiting game.

None of the handlers had it easy and I doubt he was forced to take the job. If a rough life made you a self-centered pervert then Jean and Jose who lost their whole family in an incident that they were part of, would be the biggest duo of self-centered perverts you'll ever see.

He didn't seem self centered, just confused and curious. Like a boy with a brand new... toy... The man is a spy, not a soldier, so maybe having someone around 24/7 (22/7 if he was a "Sandro time" lol) isn't what he's used to. Plus he couldn't tell what kind of a person Petrushka (or any of the cyborgs) was upon first sight, not lie he did with Eliza.

I actually want to see more of his character development, but that's not to say that I don't want to see what was up in the Croce household...

Maybe their family drowned, seeing as how Jean is down whenever he's near the ocean.

The Alessandro liking and Alessandro hating proubably comes down to personal prefference. (I confess that I dodn't like him from appearence since the first panel, so I'm rather biased, but hell I may yet change my mind).

I didn't think about their familly. That's an interesting connection with the sea. I know both Enrica and Jean's wife to be died in the bombing, but there's no information about their parents and other relatives.

They have been living together for a long time and both refer to Enrica as a sister showing the same type of connection to her, so the balance is in favour of them being normal brothers. On the other hand there is nothing that would exclude the half-brothers scenario. Jean being tall blonde and blue eyes (I think), and Jose being shorter black haired and I different color eyes (I think) is a big difference. There would have to be a lot of hidden recesive genes lining up for Jean.

ship sooner than we originally expected:

Yu Aida (Author) "Gunslinger Girl, Volume 6" [Comic]
Estimated arrival date: 12/10/2007 - 12/12/2007
I wish they would make up their fucking minds.

The translation of vol.6 is accident history so I doubt that ADVís version is going to change my opinion of ďPezze di MerdaĒ Sandro. Yes, I still think heís a piece of shit.
@Nachtsider wrote:While we're on the subject of Jean and Giuseppe's family, am I the only one here who thinks that the Croce brothers might be half-brothers?
It's hard not to think that. As 3klicks said, their as different as night and day - ie: Jose from Sicily and Jean from Veneto.

All we know for sure is that they have the same little sister. My guess is that Giovanni is dad to both and that Yu drew them differently to contrast their personalities and the way they deal with their girls. Maybe itís just that Giovanni is a dark haired, olive skinned southerner, and his wife is a blond haired blue eyed northerner. Maybe itís the other way around. Genetics are a craps shoot after all...

There's also another thing I noticed:

When Sandro is asked to give a name to his cyborg, Louis mentions that "If you follow your predecessors, it'll be a boy's name." With Marco sharing the same thought.

... What?

Ok, so not including Petrushka, there are 10 cyborgs: Henrietta, Triela, Rico, Claes, Angelica, Beatrice, and the other 4 being unknown (though I do like to dance around the idea that Pia is around...)

Anyways... that suggests that the other 4 cyborgs have boy's names, suggesting the other 4 cyborgs are girls (no shit). But why boy's names? Were the other handlers scared of becoming like Marco (first attached to his partner, then extremely distant)? Or was it Jean's influence? Could it also be a clue onto which cyborgs were created first (the first ones having girls names and the last ones having boys names)? Using that logic that would mean Rico is one of the newest cyborgs, not Henrietta. But then that contradicts the fact that Elsa was the new girl on the block...

Damn, I have to exercise some mad ninja skillz to avoid spoilers now-adays. It's like jumping through flaming hoops.

Anyway, If I remember my grade 6 biology class correctly you will need:

eyes: X = blue eyes/blonde hair Y = brown eyes/brown hair
Blue eyes are recessive so one parent has to have pure blue, and the other brown but with a hidden recessive blue gene. Hair works the same way.
parent 1: XX has property X
parent 2: XY has property Y, X is recessive and remains hidden

Anotherwords, the parents will be as different as the brothers. (If they have the same parents.)

I think its Jean's influence. He does not want the handlers to be too attached to their cyborgs, and giving them boy's names will (he thinks) put an end to the wet dreams (or so psychological theory works)!

Finally got vol.6 yesterday. No new earth shattering revelations to speak of.

It did, however, change my opinion of Sandro - I think he's an even bigger asshole. On page 93, Elizabeta (Petra) is being wheeled into the operating room. Louis ask's him if he wants to see her. He just blows him off saying:
Sandro wrote:I said I wouldn't. Quit trying to tempt me.
Fucker.

There is one other thing I found interesting. A comment about the gen2er's.
Dr. Ziliani wrote:The 2nd gen's bodies are going to be made differently. Physical ability will drop, but they'll be cheaper and easier to maintain.
This would lead one to believe that the original girls are superior and that the gen2's are more or less economy models.

Also, Louis says that in the future, they want to use the technology on adults, safely and cheaply - Jesus Christ! Let's just try out all this diabolical shit on children first and If it doesn't kill em, and we can bring the cost down, then we'll try it on adults. How fucked up is that?

What can I say?

It's the way of the world and GSG doesn't exactly stray too far from the honest and often harsh truth.

I'm interning(i. e. I don't get paid) as a CMA for the hospital running the RN program. You'll be surprised how parents almost eagerly will sign their terminally ill children up to take experimental medication and for experimental treatment. Most of which the hospital covers only part of the bill and is not covered by Med. Insurance.

About 95 percent of the time, the treatment and medications are inefective. And about 80 percent of that, the children have adverse and abnormal reactions. I won't elaborate so don't ask.

Regardless it's hard to see what some of these parents go through. There really does come a time when you'll try anything to get your child well again.

I recieved it, too... the revelations for me came from being able to properly see the pages that are put together as one picture (pgs 25-26).
-Rico's infamous jump-snipe wasn't performed in the air. The little smile she gave always confused me, because I thought she was already falling. turns out that she jumps up onto a shelf of some sort above some cement steps, takes her shot, then slips off into the water. This revelation made me breathe a sigh of relief. Yu hasn't gone off the deep end of quasi-realism.

I also experienced a moment, or two when I enjoyed him. I don't know if I'm ready for his complete domination of the next two volumes, but we'll see.

Hell, Yeah! There's some pretty damn fancy jumping going on. (btw. Half of sniping is heart rate and breathing control, getting a shot in, much less 2, right after major phisical exertion is extremetly difficult.)

The main thing that might have been unclear is why she smiled and why
she fell. (Did her job well > smiled, got distracted > fell)

I think having twelve Ricos would be a blessing. One should always bear in mind that these girls are heroines, fighting to eradicate ills like terrorism and organized crime. No matter how shady the Agency can get, their efforts have almost certainly saved dozens, if not hundreds, of innocent lives, and made Italy a safer place.

:lol!: An army of Ricos. Far better to have 11 more Ricos then 11 more gangsters. Sure, she may be way more dangerous, but the corrut SWA spends its time killing other corrupt people (for the most part). So as long as the corrupt just keep killing themselves the normal people can live their lives peacefully (or at least more peacefully then if the corrupt decided to wage war on the un-corrupt).

But, if you do end up being faced with the worst case scenario, who would you rather be killed by; a cute little girl, or an ugly old mafiozo?

I was thinking more along the lines of "Absolute power corrupts, absolutely."

If there were many Henriettas they would start a small civil war over Jose... that would be the sad end of the SWA.
