I guess this should have been here in the first place. My uncle's brother, Brian Mitchell, is co-owner of Penny Hill Costums in Delaware, Drag races Mustangs, and specialises in 5.0 Fords although he knows nothing about carburetors. The cars he races are a 1992 and a 2006 5.0 Mustang. His new '06 has a power rating of between 1000hp and 1500hp. His average time is 8:40 but i don't know if he runs the 1/4 or 1/2 mile. I'll try to put some pics up if I can figure it out.

8.40 is a good time for a 1500hp car in the quarter mile. In amateur drag racing you see either a 1/4 mile or a 1/8 mile strip...I am not aware of any half-mile strips anywhere in the world.

NHRA & IHRA Pro classes race 1/4 mile (1320ft)...with the exception of the two nitromethane fuel classes, which only use a 1000 foot strip in order to limit top speed.

By amateur I mean racing in a non-professional class (there is a big difference between an NHRA Pro license and the Sportsman license for the rest of us).
There are only 4 Professional classes in NHRA competition...Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycle.

If you find yourself offended by the term "amateur" consider that Olympic athletes are traditionally considered "amateurs" because they do not get paid to compete.
