I say it SUCKS on the PS2 Version. Tch, not worth buying if its not out of LucasArts!!!!!

Then I saw the trailer for the PS3 and XBOX 360...I say...

Played it 360, wouldn't say it sucks. I had a lot of fun playing it. I hate to tell you there is no napalm to burn the jungle down with. There are some really large weapons that would deforest a large area though...

You have to figure it was designed for a next gen system. It's going to be piece meal playing it on a last gen system.

Ooh...Ok...

There are some really large weapons that would deforest a large area though...

THAT!! Hell yeah I'll definitely get THAT!! You can't even 'deforest' area in the PS2. I'm crying l when I use the carpet bomb support option to torch the Amazon jungle. Oh I have a goal alright. Since PLAV missions were limited, and also considering how I am AN-supportive and the fact how AN continuously attacks the PLAV and China...after purchasing a decent amount of PLAV equipments (and after completing their mission, of course) I usually make enemies with them and--yes--I torch their base and kill everyone using the carpet bomb support option (FEAR ME!!!)!!

How I wish I could see the entire area cleared and burning when that happens...in the PS2 the trees are still standing -_-;

EDIT:
They should have the next Mercenary in Vietnam, Thailand or Indonesia and use that mass-deforestation effect to its full potential. Not India. What the hell are you gonna' burn in India rather than the Taj Mahal (oh yes, I really want to blow that structure up if Merc 3 comes up. CLICKCLICKCLICK BOOM! HAWHAWHAW!!)? I did raze Pyong Yang to the ground in the first Mercenary using B-52 Stratofortress carpet bombing the entire city to nothingness...somewhat reminds me of Dresden.

...aaaah I love the sight of destruction (in video games). Calms my heart...Laughing

Anyone actually play Metal Gear Online? I love playing the game but the community makes me question the intelligence of people these days. If you want an example of how retarded the community is, look at the GameFAQs forum for said game.

Yes, it was slightly delayed since people got all sensitive due to Qur'an quotes that state the obvious.

I remember hearing something about that...

Seems rather silly to me, so long as it isn't in a degratory(?) context.

Re: Vidya games!!

Post by LoC978 on Fri 7 Nov 2008 - 4:41

So anyway, I was traipsing along in the burned out ruins of DC, when I came across something that actually creeped me the fuck out.
I didn't know there were video games capable of that anymore... but apparently this one is well documented (my experience with this was pretty much exactly the same as this guy's):
Rusty@UGO wrote:...a sign pointing to a nearby fallout shelter. Not Vault 101, mind you...I was quite a ways from my old home. No, this was Vault 106. I made my way into a cave dug into a large cliff and quickly discovered the telltale massive vault door. A switch in front of it blinked expectantly and, much to my surprise, the vault door clanged open the moment I touched it, gears and levers sliding out of place like the day it was built.

Clearly Vault 106 did not have the same luck that Vault 101 had. Despite never allowing anyone to leave Vault 101, it is rather well stocked with goods and everyone seems to be relatively ďwith the program.Ē Vault 106 looked like a bomb went of. Inside of it. Everything was rusted, desks were tossed over, chairs broken, computers sparking and useless. It was nothing short of an abandoned ruin. And then I realized it wasnít quite abandoned.

Passing through the halls I came upon a woman wearing a Vault 106 jumpsuit. Within seconds of trying to say howdy, she attacked me with a pipe. She was definitely crazy, mumbling about something or other. Something had happened down here, and I had to figure out what. More and more deranged Vault 106ers came at me, or were attacking each other. And thatís when the visions started.

Iíd be walking down the hallway and suddenly Iíd see my father. But when I went up to talk to him, he vanished. As I got deeper and deeper into Vault 106, more visions cropped up. Memories from my old life where dropping in and out, with apparitions of old friends and foes popping here and there. What the hell was going on here.

It wasnít until the science lab that I learned the truth. After hacking into a computer deep within the Vaultís bowels, I discovered the true purpose of Vault 106. You see, the vaults werenít designed to save humanity. They were massive social experiments. Vault 13 was designed to see what would happen if the potable water chip failed after several years. Vault 101 was designed to discover whether people could survive without hope of ever leaving the vault. And Vault 106 was designed to see what would happen if, 10 days after the vault door sealed, a psychotoxic gas was introduced into the air filtration system. The end result being the mess that I saw it in now. That would also explain all the visions Iíd be having.

The truth discovered, I started to make my way out of the vault. And 30 minutes later I was still trying to leave. Every time I checked my map, the exit would be in a different spot. The exit would appear to be in the next room, and then, when I went in there, I was no where near it. It didnít help that the vaults have a labyrinthian layout and every hallway looks sorta the same, either.

After 30 minutes, I had started to feel a bit crazy, doubling back on my self, second guessing, never knowing if I was going the right way. It was not a good feeling. I also had the sinking suspicion that the furniture was changing whenever I left a room. But thatís just crazy, right?

Nope, not crazy. They WERE moving the furniture on me. Vault 106 is designed to drive you nuts...especially if you donít know itís coming. One second youíre on a cool adventure in a new location, the next youíre stuck in your own private hell. It took Pete Hines of Bethesda calling back to the main office in Maryland to find me a way out of Vault 106. It wasnít a trick, either. It was just where I came in. The tricky bastards just hid it from me.
Christ, I can't remember the last time somethin' did that to me... the games that are blatantly trying to scare ya just make me yawn... but this, this one was subtle. You're not even sure something's wrong until you're practically trapped.

Fallout 3 and Little Big Planet are so full of awesome, that if a traveling motorcycle gang consisting of robo-sharks with cruise missiles strapped to their fins rode by and asked me to come join them on a mission to fight zombie Nazis in space, I would have to say "No thanks, I'm playing Fallout 3 and Little Big Planet."

(Perhaps a bit exaggerated, but not by much.)

P.S. In my opinion, the only good thing about CoD: World at War was the aforementioned zombie Nazis minigame.

For once, I have to say I respect EA games for bringing out Red Alert 3.

Oh yes, I loooove the Empire of the Rising Sun! Their faction is waaay to cool to miss! Mecha jets, no need for fighters, nearly-everything amphibious...makes my life very easy when using this faction.

...although I have to comment about the voice actors...they look Chinese-American... -_-;

I downloaded RA3 quite a while ago. Still can't be bothered installing it -.-

Install it! Man, it is awesome!

...although it doesn't offer the same taste as that of the old Westwood studio...the intro is reminiscing RA 2 though. An invasion. Cool...

Personally I'm most comfortable using the ERS faction rather than the Allied and the Soviets.

Soviet structures and units were full-brute force. Massing things up is enough to send you to victory...I think. Allied's a defensive type of player that relies on its multi-functional unit to fight. Its flexibility is quite nice.

Now the ERS--this is my favorite. A very-very quick faction as building structures were as easy as ABC and as fast as building a conscript. Most of the units were water-borne and were strong enough to go against the Allied and Soviet structures. The infantry is amongst my favorite. Set 5 Imperial soldiers and attack a group of enemy infantry. When that happens, set one to go on a banzai charge and voila! Clear the enemy with ease. Although Allied peacekeepers and their shotgun pose quite a problem when going to that kind of range...

The tank is decent...it can traverse through water though, unlike any other faction's. The giant King Oni is somewhat cumbersome--though powerful. The Tengu, yeah that somewhat reminds me of Macross...although its more like a cross between a mecha-A6M fighter and a jet.

...what's up with the near-anime reference anyway? Although I have to say its cool it just doesn't entirely fit the RA universe. But who cares? With the LAN enabler, I can play co-op with my friend and damn I say its sweet!

looks like the 'Empire Earth 3' of the C&C series... I'm sure you know how well that actually worked out...

You mean how it is not-as-interesting as it meant to? EE3 doesn't offer much changes to that of EE1 other than better graphics. Aah...now I get it. Its still enjoyable though!

dude, they made the unit's damage scaling waaaay off in EE3, plus they just started getting wacky on unit design at the higher levels of civilization.

basically, I was paralleling unit design changes... 'cause seriously, most of those they showed in RA3 looked pretty wacky and impractical.

Does anyone miss the 'serious' Red Alert? Like the first one? Cheesy can be fun too, but the series was originally supposed to be serious. I also wonder if they let things get a little TOO out there with the third game. Though I have to admit, playing an anime influenced faction could be kind of fun even if the unit designs are kind of out there. Laughing Don't know cause I haven't played it yet though.

I've played the Beta and the full game a couple of times in an internet cafe. Maybe that's why?

No shit. But at least I could tell it was a RedAlert game.
TibWars was just fucked up, it looked nothing like the previous Tiberium games. If I didn't know what it was, I would have thought it was Starcraft with green crystals...

Soviets are supposed to have the best land units, Allies have the best air units and the Empire have the best navel units.

So who here have the cracked version of RA3?

RA3 looked pretty wacky and impractical.

Yeah, true...

but it does add a lot more thinking to strategy usage

'serious' Red Alert?

How I wish to have it again. I mean, they killed Einstein in the 3rd and now the Allied lack the awesome prism tower. They have a spectrum tower in replacement though...
Anyway, the entire story is somewhat like...a little joke? Funny how they went a little overboard on this one.

And Allied Air units as the best? They have more numbers; but the best? I should re-think about this. I prefer flexible units like the Rising Sun.

although actually...you could try creating for of those carpet bombers, load them with paratroopers then drop bombs and paratroopers to enemy lines and get them into a whole mess of trouble.

Are you freaking serious?

-Their air superiority fighter pwns both the Mig and Tengu.

-They are the only faction that has bombers

-They have access to the Apollo and Vindicator right off the bat. Don't even need an Ore Refinery to build an Airfield.

I think its pretty dang obvious that they have the best airforce...

Well either today or tomorrow, I'll be getting Prince of Persia. Hopefully it plays as good as it looks. Besides, I need a good action/adventure/puzzle solver. Ninja Gaiden Sigma just isn't living up to the hype. Shitty camera problems for the lose.

aah...now you got me on that one.

Still, its fun sending 6 Tengu and converting them into mecha once the allied superiority fighter comes. When their bomber arrives to eradicate the mecha tengu, switch back to fighter and knock em' out!

Scott Sharkey wrote: Top 5 Religions Offended by Games
In the wake of Little Big Planet's recall we rundown five more religions that should have a beef with videogames.

If you didn't catch the news, Little Big Planet has been pulled from store shelves on account of it containing some bits from the Koran (it's hard to tell who exactly that would have offended the most, and it's even harder to explain why. So I'm not.) It's not the first time that we've seen this, and it's probably not the last. Rather than run down the long list of every game caught in a controversy over religion, I decided to present the top five religions with just as much cause to be pissy with videogaming.

5. Satanism (Doom, Devil May Cry, many others)

Satanism only ranks in at No. 5 by virtue of the fact that there don't seem to be any honest-to-gosh Satanists in the world. Well, other than the Anton LaVey smart-ass variety who don't actually worship Satan. Their failure to exist is pretty much confirmed by the fact that they're not up in arms over how often we've been killing their favorite guy with BFG rounds to the head.

4. Buddhism (Whomp Em, Saiyuki, Dragon Ball, etc)

Buddhism gets progressively wackier the further east you move it from its point of origin, eventually becoming completely incomprehensible at about the point it reaches California. If there's one thing I've learned about it from videogames, however, it's that the proper practice of pretty much any flavor of Buddhism will grant you superpowers. Not enlightenment, but more practical things like flight and the ability to throw fireballs. Which puts it near the bottom of the offensiveness list because honestly, not only is that kind of awesome, but also the entire point of the philosophy seems to be not letting crap get to you.

3. Hinduism (Final Fantasy Series)

It's probably notable that Shiva, the many-armed god of destruction (and multitasking), is not, in fact, a hot blue chick who lives in an ice cube. The Hindu pantheon tends toward minimal dress and gender confusion, but it's still hard to imagine that portrayal going over very well.

Fun activity: In the games that prompt you to rename the Shiva summon, piss off whoever you like by transforming Jesus, Mohammad, or your religious figure of choice into a frigid, bikini-wearing Smurf.

2. Judaism (Xenogears)

Japanese RPGs in general and the Xenogears/Saga games in particular obtained their plots by tossing the Torah and some giant robot comics through a paper shredder before pasting them back together at random. They earn bonus points for the ultimate evil in the world being Jehovah himself. Double bonus for the fact that he turns out to be a broken computer that created human beings so he could snack on them later.

Fortunately, his one weakness seems to be getting punched by robots.

1. Christianity (Everything Else)

Beating up on angels while listening to unnecessary Catholic chanting is practically a genre unto itself. Castlevania title screens play a call to Mass, it's pretty much standard for any ultimate bad guy to pop wings all over hell before the final battle, and at least one Final Fantasy title has you beating up Jesus and his 12 apostles (albeit with funnier names). We'd be pretty hard pressed to pull all of these off the shelves.
I think we can pretty much say that the lack of offense taken is largely due to the sense of humor possessed by the aforementioned groups... still, I find the article funny as hell.

Re: Vidya games!!

...look at the top of the post, and the article. It was based on Little Big Planet's being pulled from stores on account of the presence of lines from the main Islamic text (the Qurían, also sometimes transliterated as Quran, Quríān, Koran, Alcoran or Al-Quríān)... that being said, Islam wouldn't really be top 5. It gets off pretty light in the video game market. Most video games that have Middle Eastern terrorists in 'em avoid any reference to religion.
Also, as to #5... Nacht, you should write that guy a funny, if scathing, Email (there's already at least one comment there that rebuked the author for his uninformed dismissal of Satanism).

The writer probably doesn't realize (or perhaps does, but tries to deny) that the lack of
outraged responses from Satanists to such video games is merely due to the fact that we
refuse to waste time dignifying this stuff with responses - there's bigger fish to fry than
getting ourselves up in arms over these matters. I therefore won't be paying him any calls. Evil

Residnt Evil 5 Demo Impressions

Post by rusty-spring on Fri 19 Dec 2008 - 17:48

@LoC978 wrote:Video

I've been having tons of fun with LBP. In fact, it's one of the few games I know of where it has been universally enjoyed by almost everyone whom I've gotten to try it. Including non-gamers, females, lil kids, Amish (ok I don't know any Amish people Razz )

In other video game news, I've recently been able to play the Japanese Resident Evil 5 demo. Now let me get one thing out of the way. I love Resident Evil games, and have played the previous incarnations - however, I am not one of those "hard-core old school nitpick" type of fan. I thought Resident Evil 4 was an excellent game, despite not having "zombies." So I'm perfectly fine with how the Resident Evil games have evolved.

Back to RE5, I thought the demo was a lot of fun. It plays very similar to RE4, and was surprised by the difficulty of the first demo level (though subsequent play throughs naturally lead you to certain areas/strategies that make it easier to beat). I had some reservations at first from all the hearsay/complaining, but now I'm only looking forward to it more.

Now the number one reason I loved the demo. I was playing the demo as couch co-op. Meaning my friend and I were able to communicate as we played sitting next to each other. Non-online co-op games aren't as popular as they once were, and seeing one of my favorite series move to this was awesome.

In fact, I find co-op the way to play. Unlike a human player (meaning players who understand ammo management a little Razz ), the AI is rediculously cavalier with it's ammo. You're allowed to swap weapons/grenades/healing/ammo between the two characters (Chris/Sheva) and while playing alone with an AI partner, I found I had to constantly supply them with spare ammo. That left me using the knife and melee more often than I wished, lest the AI get overwhelmed.

Lastly, the weapon diversity impressed me. More than I thought a RE game to have. In the demo you see a Beretta, MP5, Skorpion, and Sako bolt-action rifle. Other weapons include Dragunov, Benelli M3, Beretta PX4, Sig 226, USP, PSG-1, AK74, and the "Mad Max" Razz. Plus more than I'm too lazy to list.

Anyways, those are my thoughts on the new RE5 as far as I've seen. Feel free to ask me more if anyone has more detail questions, I just didn't want to write a bigger post than I already have.
