LOL at using anime characters as topographic features. Worms is wackily violent fun. Love it to bits. Give me the Holy Hand Grenade!

The sick, twisted sadism of Portal is continued in the prequel mod. Puzzles are a hell of a lot more challenging too.

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit is out on Tuesday, and I for one will be devoting most of my gaming time to it when possible. Razz cheers I'm stoked for the return to supercars that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars instead of being forced to put giant wings and stickers on tuner imports.

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit is more fun than I could have hoped for. Online cops and robbers is surprisingly addicting.

As cool as Gran Turismo 5 is going to be, I just can't see how it can be more exciting than those "escape/bust in the last .1 mile" moments.

I doubt the New Vegas one is Valve's fault, that sounds like a game bug, not a Steam one.
The Black Ops one... it depends if the crashes are caused by the dedicated server code (in which case its the developer's fault) or in the part of the network infrastructure Valve runs.

New Vegas has had a nasty reputation of crashing - Obsidian's hand is evident in their excellent story, but lousy game-craft. I'm holding off until it's better-patched.

Played it, enjoyed it, pissed off they stopped making DLC in favor of this Move bullshit. I was a fan of Indigo Prophecy so I was looking forward to Heavy Rain. If you enjoyed Heavy Rain, play Inidigo Prophecy now.

Press X to Jason.

In regards to GT5, I was rather disappointed with the game. I'd sacrifice 600 of those standard cars for more premium cars. You do not need 51 Nissan Skylines, thats less Fords represented in the game. The game still lacks a livery editor and why is the Bugatti Veyron a standard car? Polyphony Digital should have taken Forza Motorsport more seriously as a competitor in the racing genre even though its a 360 game. Turn 10 has been able to pull out 3 games in the development of GT5 and for me has made a quality game.

6 years, $60 million dollars, not so great of a package.

Looks like the only games that will be using my Driving Force GT wheel are Initial D Extreme Stage and Wangan Midnight still.

I haven't picked up Gran Turismo 5 yet mostly because I find racing sims to be more of a chore than fun, but I'll probably pick it up once it hits the used resale market. Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit still amuses me greatly to the point where, besides GT5 that I haven't played it yet, it is perhaps one of the best racing games released in years.

I also finally tried Bayonetta (XBOX version, the PS3 version is just horrible) and it is the most fun, amusing, campy action game I've played in a long time. The soundtrack is amazing with it's cover of Fly Me To The Moon and the quasi-victorian accents make me grin.

Lastly, Call of Duty: BLOPS is just "okay" in my opinion. I think it's a worthy game, but the multiplayer seems 'off' somehow. Maybe I got too used to Modern Warfare 2, but Black Ops seems painfully slow sometimes in comparison.

Black Ops is AWESOME! Its held my attention way better than MW2. I played MW2 a lot for a while, then suddenly tired of it, and went back to Halo 3, then Reach, now BLOPs. I havent touched MW2 for like, 5 months, at least. Black Ops however, has awesome features like Nazi Zombies, Firing range, epicest campaign (yes, I think its better than MW!), and of course, theater mode.
Still, I think Infinity Ward is very well capable of making MW3 even better somehow, even with the epic near-divorce between Activision and IW and firing of Jason West. Of course, they couldn't split, not on a cliffhanger on par with Halo 2.
Also, have you heard of Homefront? Basically, its like MW2, except instead fighting off Russian invasion, you are fighting NORTH KOREANS who have actually OWNED the US defenders. Apparantly, Kim Jong dies in 2012, succeeded by his son, and proceeds to grow North Korean power. US has epic economic problems, quits its job as the World Cop, then invaded by new North Korean Empire and owned.

I've been playing the new GoldenEye on DS. I'm having fun with it, but I don't think I'll still be playing it in a decade or two. I haven't had a chance to try multiplayer yet.

I tried playing Heavy Rain once. Or maybe three times. I was borrowing it from a friend. After it froze on me three times in a window of maybe an hour and a half, if that, I gave up. Then I tried to download the patch, but seeing as it was a whole freaking gig, and I operate on an unreliable, leeched wifi, that wasn't happening. So I went back to playing my friend's copy of inFamous. That was a while ago though.

Now I'm cracking out on 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors. For being what amounts to a visual novel with puzzles, it is insanely addictive. Plus, the true end is such a mind screw that it makes Metal Gear Solid (as a series) look like a children's story (novel, not picture books). I'm actually playing through the true end again just to see if I can make a theory that makes sense, because all of the other ones I've read make none. So far, I'm doing a pretty good job, but chances are, there is one, and only one thing I won't figure out. Ever. Anyone who has beaten the game knows what I'm talking about. It's actually really cool going through the game already knowing the twists. Makes certain characters more likable, others more hated, a few look like freaking chessmasters with a masters in acting. It also makes some of the jokes a LOT more hilarious.

Definately. No pathetic apprentice of Vader can kill Chewie. No matter how many Tie Fighters he can pluck out of the air.

I got so bored of Force Unleashed 1 that I'm not even the slightest bit interested in 2. I'll stick with GT5, NFS and Black Ops. I'm lagging behind on gaming too, still need to play Medal of Honor and maybe BC2 if I'm desperate. The trend towards multiplayer has me gritting my teeth. I live for single player stories and the industry is headed away.

Maybe I'll take a crack at Front Mission Evolved even though I think the first person perspective is an abomination of that franchise.

Re: Vidya games!!

Post by boomer_gonz on Fri 17 Dec 2010 - 6:32

Got me a copy of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit a few days ago and to be honest; I'm having a bit more fun than I do with Gran Turismo 5. Not to take anything away from GT5 for NFS:HS is a different beast altogether.

What I find truly fun about this game is seeing all of the cars, especially some of the exclusive police models(in showroom trim before being beaten to hell anyway), like the classic Ford Crown Vic Interceptor and the new for 20?? Carbon Motors E7.

However there is one gripe about the game that I figured I'd let everyone know right off the bat. Where in the holy-hell-**** is Ferrari?

Of course, logic would prevail that EA couldn't get the licensing (yeah, right); but seriously if that was the case, they should've tried harder.

I mean someone decided to let Bentley into the party as well as include the impractical Gumpert Apollo(the Pagani Zonda is exempt on shear awesomeness). You're telling me that the Enzo, California, and Scaglietti couldn't make it? If these beautiful pieces of motoring mayhem couldn't be in the game, then the butt-ugly Nissan 370Z shouldn't be in either.

And if not these, then what about the classics. The Daytona GTS? Testerossa? I'm talking about Miami Vice.

Hopefully there will be DLC packages coming soon that will right this wrong. If not a Ferrari package, then hopefully a Miami Vice package that will include a 1984 Nissan 300ZX, 1985 Lamborghini Countach 5000QV, and of course the 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 in addition to the above mentioned Ferrari's.

Yeah, what little time I have to play video games is being devoted to NFS and not GT5.

100% agreed with Need For Speed. I love every moment of it, and it's much more enjoyable as a quick gaming session than GT5. Arcades always seem more carefree than simulations. Plus, wrecking cops with a well timed EMP or sideswipe is more fun than you can shake a Konigseggeggesssgiigg at. Razz

As for the Ferrari's, Ferrari has this little thing where they no longer support video games where their vehicles may be used in an "illegal" manner. That's why you'll find them in closed course racing games (Like Need For Speed: Shift) or racing simulations where the object isn't to outrun police and crash into various things. It's lame, but I guess that just proves that Lamborghini is the more fun German Italian car company.

That's how Toyota, Honda, and Subaru are with non-Japanese games, they won't permit their cars to be in street racing games.

Meanwhile in Japan they are welcomed in Wangan Midnight MT3 and Initial D Arcade Stage. I need to find a MT3 arcade machine near me now, I miss playing those games.

3rd Birthday (a.k.a Parasite Eve 3) is coming out for PSP. All I can say is everyone could only wish they'd look as good as Aya when they're 39 years old. On Cloud 9

Skip to 0:56 for some cut-scene goodness of Miss Brea. Razz

I as of now have no plans to buy a PS3. But there are select games that do make me vant to buy one, like Heavy Rain(though I've already spoiled the entire damn capmaign for me now, on almost all possible paths Razz). Hell, I sometimes feel like buying a PS2 and importing the GsG games Razz.
There was a time where I REALLY wanted a PS, PSP and whatnot Razz. Hunny how now I'm all Xbox, with Nintendo in the backseat Razz.

Black Ops, btw, is very practical for making modern-day set machinima, just saying. (grin)

I'm extremely tempted to import 3rd Birthday as I'm a huge PE fan. However I also want to be able to understand more than 40% of it when I play. I remember reading in the news article comments how there's going to be another shower scene.

Lastly, Call of Duty: BLOPS is just "okay" in my opinion. I think it's a worthy game, but the multiplayer seems 'off' somehow. Maybe I got too used to Modern Warfare 2, but Black Ops seems painfully slow sometimes in comparison.

I didn't have time to play Black Ops Multiplayer, only the campaign. The gameplay, in my opinion was pretty good in most parts, and the Prison Escape level added a nice change.

As far as the plot went, it was.... out there, to say the least.
Spoiler:
Case and point: The Kennedy assassinatin is hinted to be the work of Soviet mind control.

Also, there seems to be less attention to accuracy as far as the weapons are concerned the there was in past COD games, for instance, red dot reflex sights weren't invented until 1973, yet they appear in levels set in the 1960s.

Expensive. Had to order all three and install a mod chip. I did manage to get a copy of the second volume NIB from a place in Virginia. The other two were used but in good shape. I really can't see any reason they split them up like that except to include the DVD's with them. It's not like they're all that densely packed on a disk. Would have been nice if Atari or someone else in cahoots with Funi had brought them over as one game. Nice thing about having a mod-chip: I can play the YuYu Hakusho fighting games that weren't imported, among others.

I was the opposite, except I had a PS3 and no XBOX. Luckily I was able to pick up one up almost new for a pittance from a generous friend, but I can totally understand why someone wouldn't want to make a ~300 dollar purchase for the sake of one or two games.

I will say that I greatly enjoy the freedom of owning both consoles. Tales of Vesperia and the Mass Effect series are my favorite games that I otherwise wouldn't have been able to play (though now Mass Effect is coming out for PS3). Plus there's always the sketchy multi-platform releases that tend to favor one console over the other which I find completely annoying. bang head

For me it's all about the multiplayer. It's what keeps games interesting far past their price to purchase. Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer is downright broken in some aspects, but at the same time I find it purely more fun than Black Ops.

I'll admit zombie mode does add a nice bit of gameplay (and I love zombies) but I never use theater mode in any game and the core multiplayer itself, player vs. player, is what ultimately decides how I judge a FPS. Speaking of the zombies, I was a little disappointed that it involved zombie Nazi's again like in World At War.

Actually, an unlockable map called "Five" (by cheat or by campaign completion) features office zombies, scientist zombies, and American MP zombies, and one playable character who often expresses his hatred of hippies and sometimes calls the zombies as such Razz.

And btw, the playable chars on that map are......ahh go find out yourself.

After weeks of playing, an hour at a time (my work and home schedule allows for VERY limited gaming time), I FINALLY completed Mass Effect 2 with my imported Shepard from ME1. Full Paragon, limited Renegade, No One Left Behind (FTMFW).

Now I just have to wait... another 11 months+ for ME3... *cries*

Ah well... time to start slogging through Dragon Age, then...

They should make a version of ME3 that is compatible with Mass Effect 2 files that have Shepherd dead. I would love to see "The Revenge of Joker" Razz

EDIT: Actually, considering there is just one way for Shepherd to die, you wouldn't need to import any files. Hey, is there a way to kill everyone BUT Shepherd?

Not sure... from what I've uncovered, it's either 1 or 0 - if Shepard is alone, Shepard dies. *shrugs*

From the buzz that I've been hearing through the jungle drums, ME3 is going to offer a LOT of flexibility, based on what happened in the first two... but if Shepard died, that's that.

edit: for checking facts and realising that I was talking out of the side of my mouth...
