What you (not you Odon but nearly everyone) dont realize that a police packaged car tends to have things in it that a normal civilian car wont. Higher horse power for the same sized engine, most of the times the largest engine that can fit in that car frame tuned to the most HP possible.
Idiots in Chargers and Mustangs racing down the highway at 175mph were almost always caught by this guy.

Re: Best of Police Cars
There's also the issue of fitting the tool to the purpose... those little Carabinieri egg cars are for urban patrol duties, not trying to chase things down on the open road. Evidently they're considered practical for the purpose they're being used for.
As for the Lamborghinis, I believe Lamboghini has donated cars to Italian police forces which I guess tend to use them for PR (a major duty is apparently transporting organs for transplant). Although I understand some German police with responsibility for policing the autobahn have some pretty high performance hardware at their disposal.

Allison: This, on the other hand... I'll gladly get into.

The Ford Stealth Police Interceptor, unmarked version of the Next-Generation Police Interceptor Sedan slated to replace the Crown Victoria. With graphite 22-inch Forgiato wheels, bright red disc brake calipers, all-black exterior, smoked tail lamps, and an available 365-hp EcoBoost 3.5L twin-turbo V6 and all-wheel drive, it looks like a boy racer's wet dream... until the hidden red and blue lights come on.

As for Australia, we seem to have a set of multiple personalities when it comes to our police cars:

Highway Patrol.

Urban Pursuit.
And for the vast majority of Australia if counted by land area rather than population:

All impressive rozzer wagons with much to reccommend them in both style and performance, certainly. That said, though, there is one particular conveyance that will run screaming flayed-rubber donuts around them all...

Hmm.... I wonder how hard would it be to get a recessed lightbar onto the windshield of a supercar... having the bar on top has got to do all kinds of nasty things to the aerodynamics

Photographed this one in Roanapur...I mean Pattaya yesterday. Apparently the Thai police chase speedsters in pickup trucks! The words on the windshield are HIGHWAY POLICE SPEEDER UNIT...in English. Mind you, sounded like a powerful engine under the hood, so maybe there's more here than meets the eye.

Big power requires big cooling...and judging by the size of that intercooler mounted up front I'd guess you are correct.Odon wrote: Mind you, sounded like a powerful engine under the hood, so maybe there's more here than meets the eye.

Re: Best of Police Cars
Just in time for the Christmas holidays, the Queensland Police have rolled out their new highway patrol cars...

...built by HSV and tuned up for the force.
Perhaps not quite as impressive as the Lambos, but enough to make me think I'll be making judicious use of the cruise control on the run back to Brisbane.
Oh, and did I mention their new numberplates:

Just in case you didn't get the message the first time around. Ok, so it's sold as a politically correct reminder to not speed, drink and drive, fail to wear a seatbelt or drive tired... but that's all in very small type where you can barely read it.

Have to say I like the M8 IT CAN W8 anti-texting while driving race queens at the V8 Supercars race.
