What was your cyborg's first encounter with the handler?

Post by tremec6speed on Thu 24 Feb 2011 - 3:55

Hi everyone, I was just wondering about the first moment the handlers met their cyborg.
That must be a very important event for the mechanized agents I imagine. Would anyone like to give a brief synopsis or summary of that juncture? It be really cool me thinks, as it says a lot about both characters, but I imagine especially the teacher. I realize that in the fan fic stories, some of us have already covered this ground, so if you want, maybe those folks might choose to cut/paste a portion of that particular time in their tale. (or not you know, it's up to you) Smile
Anyway, I'll go first!
Razz
When Jean briefed Salvatore on the basics of his mechanical partner, the process was very cut and dry as this agent had effectively gone over the heads of both himself and Lorenzo in the process of entering the organization. There had been tensions between the three as Salvatore made no secret of his powerful connections through his family within the government and business circles.
So when the self appointed recruit was to finally meet his major weapon, a child cyborg, the process was clinical in it's execution. Jean coldly informed the new member that he should now spend a few minutes with his cyborg, a kind of initial *melding* one might say.
Upon leaving the room, the little cyborg followed Salvatore with her eyes, turning to continue her silent vigil as he paced seemingly lost in his own thoughts. This continued for several minutes until she at last cleared her throat, at which point he stopped and whirled around, remembering her presence. Analyzing his possession once more, the man recollected his instructions to name the thing created for his missions.
Waving his hand in circular motions, he blurts out the first name that came to his mind: "Helen of Troy!" he remarked, chuckling to himself. "Helen of Troy" she repeated almost to herself with the her adult teacher quickly correcting her. "No no, Helen, just Helen, got that?"
A shy smile and an affirmation of her name followed but once more the man had entered the realm of his own mind, walking this way and that. Before he left the room his only other statement was repeating to her; "remember it".
Alone now, she repeated the name without ceasing in a low volume so as not to forget and fail her first assignment.
As time passed, the cyborg stopped only briefly to look at the door when she detected footsteps nearby, then continuing her repetition. When the door finally did open she was met with technicians who would then study her quickly as done previously, speaking incomprehensible jargon that made sense only to their own kind. Perhaps they missed something or she had done something wrong the cyborg contemplated. They too however departed abruptly, leaving the mechanical child/weapon alone once more. Eventually another agent, a more amiable one named Olga escorted 'Helen' to her own room.....

Well I've had two with Kara:

The original, in Intersection of Vertices:

Michele’s desk-phone rang an hour later and on the other end was Dr. Bianchi, informing him that Kara had just woken up. He locked his computer and went over to the medical center.

“Good morning, Kara,” he greeted as he walked in.

“Good morning, Michele,” she replied. She was sitting up in bed, dressed in pajamas.

“And how are you feeling?”

“A bit tired,” Kara admitted.

“Well that is to be expected. The doctors say you need to rest for the next few days, which gives me some time to discuss with you furnishings and such. I have some presents for you,” he added, hoisting the large bag he had brought in with him.

“You’re like Santa Claus!” she exclaimed with a laugh.

He pulled out a box for an Apple PowerBook G4. He knew she’d used Apple computers when she was Kumari and Michele himself preferred them.

“I also bought you a number of programs, as well,” he noted.

“Suteki!” she exclaimed.

Michele placed the second present on her lap – a dark grey case. Kara unlatched it and removed a pistol.

“Can you identify it?” he asked.

“Heckler & Koch. P2000 series. From the size and weight, I am guessing the P2000SK sub-compact.” The magazine was in the case so she pulled back the slide and verified there was no round in the chamber. She released the slide and cocked the weapon. She then aimed it at the floor and pulled the trigger.

“Heavy trigger pull. The V2 option?” she asked.

“Correct on all counts,” Michele said, earning him a smile from Kara. He knew they programmed a slew of weapons information into to the girls, but it was impressive to see it in action.

“One more,” Michele said, removing the P2000SK case and replacing it with a larger and heavier one. Kara opened that one and examined the contents for a few moments.

“You like HK, don’t you,” she noted.

“When you care enough to use the very best,” Michele replied.

“XM8 Assault Rifle. I see parts for all four configurations sans the M203 grenade launcher.”

“Well done,” Michele said. “In general you will use the compact carbine mode as a PDW, but I like the flexibility of being able to use a single weapon in a variety of roles. That way your proficiency will carry over.”

“Understood.”

“Meal time,” a female orderly said as she brought in a tray. She removed the cover to reveal a bowl of what looked like white yogurt.

“What’s this?” Michele asked.

“White yogurt,” the orderly replied. “Enriched with a number of vitamins and other additives the cyborgs need for right after surgery.”

Both Kara and Michele made a sour face.

“When can she have normal food?” Michele asked.

“Usually within 24 hours. We’ll do oatmeal tomorrow morning for breakfast and then pasta for lunch. If she does okay with that, then she’s released and can have the normal fare.”

“I’m going to make you homemade fettuccine al burro e panna,” Michele informed Kara. “No partner of mine is going to live off yogurt.”

“You cook?” Kara asked.

“Darn well,” Michele replied with a smile as he patted her hand. He collected the “presents” back into the bag and rose. He leaned over and kissed her on the forehead.

“Sleep well. I will see you in the morning for breakfast,” he said.

“Okay, papa-san.”

And then in Pactio:

The girl awoke to darkness, but as she blinked her eyes, the ambient light leaking past the heavy curtains allowed her to make out features in her room, including a tray to her right and a chair and ottoman to her left. She felt the coarse cotton weave of he hospital sheets on her bare skin and she slowly moved her arms and legs. Behind her she noticed a wooden wall cabinet and to her right a wooden table and chair. She used the bed controls to raise herself into a sitting position.

There was a knock on the door and her heart leapt into her throat. Today she would meet her handler, and she was naked! Before she could call out, the door opened and a woman with light brown hair wearing a black leather jacket over a burgundy turtleneck with grey jeans tucked into knee-high burgundy leather boots entered the room, a large paper bag in one hand. Behind her came a man sporting a soul patch wearing Doctor’s Whites whom she recognized as Doctor Fernando Bianchi, followed by an orderly with a tray.

“Ah, you’re awake!” the woman said in a chipper voice. She walked towards the bed, the soles of her boots echoing off the vinyl floor.

Though the girl had never seen her before, a spark of recognition flashed through her mind.

“Priscilla?” she asked.

“Very good!” Priscilla replied. The new generation of cyborgs was pre-programmed with the names and faces of all the staff.

“And do you know your name?” Priscilla asked.

“Kara Michelle Deleroux,” the woman replied, pronouncing her first name as “CAR-ah” as opposed to the more common “CARE-ah”. She’d been told her handler had christened her, choosing the first name because it sounded Japanese (even if a Japanese person would have pronounced it “CAH-RAH”) and the middle and last names to pay homage to the French half of her heritage.

“Come now, Priscilla. Kara’s been out of surgery for a day now. She’s already been briefed on her name and background,” Doctor Bianchi noted with a smile.

Priscilla nodded and then raised the bag. “I brought you some clothes. Your handler will be here in about an hour. It wouldn’t do to meet him only wearing a hospital gown!” she noted with a chuckle, not realizing she just set Kara at ease.

The orderly placed the tray of slices of soft fruit and a bowl of plain yogurt on the side table and then left while Priscilla placed the bag on the end of the bed. Kara removed a shoebox with the name ‘Christian Louboutin’ emblazoned on it and when she opened it, found a cloth bag protecting a pair of knee-high boots in black leather with an almond toe and a block heel. Kara compared them to the ones Priscilla wore and they looked identical to her. She also noticed the bright red soles and Priscilla informed her that was a trademark of Christian Louboutin shoes, showing off the same soles on her own boots.

The next box, from La Perla, contained silk undergarments. The final box was quite large and contained what appeared to Kara to be a school uniform consisting of a white shirt, black jacket, red tie, checkered miniskirt and a shawl in a pattern matching the skirt.

“Thank you,” Kara said to Priscilla.

Doctor Bianchi asked Kara some medical questions as she ate and, satisfied with the answers, left with Priscilla so Kara could shower and change. Kara slipped out from under the covers and stood on her feet, feeling a momentary bit of vertigo that quickly passed. After a hot shower, she returned to the bed and dressed in the school uniform then sat down in the chair to pull on her boots. She heard a knock on the door and called for the person to enter. Kara looked over the bed to see a handsome man dressed in an immaculately tailored suit in darkest charcoal walk into the room. Behind him she saw Doctor Bianchi again with an attractive woman her memory informed her was named Ferro.

Kara estimated the man’s height at around 185cm and the suit defined a muscular and well-toned frame. She flashed him a smile and pulled on her right boot before standing, unconsciously adjusting her weight on the 50mm heels as she presented herself for inspection.

“Attrayant,” the man said in a deeply rich voice and Kara blushed. The man, surprised at the reaction, mentally recalled the tagline of a future company – “More Real Than Real”.

“You are my handler?” she asked with a hint of French accent. The question was rhetorical as she’d already been shown his picture and told his name.

“I am your partner,” the man corrected. “My name is Michele. Michele Pagani.”

“Pleased to meet you, Michele,” Kara replied, putting her hands together and bowing deeply at the waist.

“So, what’s my name going to be?” Britney timidly asked.

“Britney Kensington.” Biff replied in a cold voice.

“But… that’s already my name.”

“I know.” He said. “You got a problem it?”

“Well, no, but the R&D people said you’d probably give me a new one.”

“What would be the point in that?” He started to once again leaf through her file. “You’d only get a new name if you didn’t remember anything, but apparently you’ve managed to screw that up.”

“I… I didn’t mean to.” She said quietly. “I’ll try to forget everything, if it’ll make you happy.”

“If you really want to make me happy, you’ll stop talking like an idiot.”

Britney started to pout. “Why are you being so mean.”

Biff glared at the young cyborg. “Oh, you ain’t seen nothing yet. For your information, I didn’t take this job to be your fucking babysitter, so you better just get used to it.”

“Okay…” The girl was on the verge of tears.

“You want to try that again?” He said still clearly irritated.

“Sorry.” Britney swallowed hard and replied. “Yes, sir.”

After looking her over for a moment, Biff shook his head and stalked out of the room. In recovery, Britney had overheard enough conversations to know that some of the handlers could be very kind, while others were down right cruel. The young girl’s heart sank as she realized that her new big brother, Biff Steele, was one of the latter.

Marina was Elio's first, and had a Petrushka style wake-up (minus kicking her new handler in the chin). It was done clinically in the hospital with plenty of witnesses via closed circuit video. Marina was heavily conditioned so...brief introduction...presentation of a weapon...zero drama.

After Marina died in training Elio went into an alcoholic tailspin. Once they figured out what killed her it was time to sober up & try again...enter the much better known Marisa. Many of the unfortunate Marina's mechanical parts were recycled into Marisa, including her brilliant blue eyes. Since Elio had fixated on those same eyes so much during Marina's death he had a minor relapse (when he saw her pre-activation) and the doctors prudently swapped Marisa's eyes out for a different set.

Cautious about Elio's questionable mental state Lorenzo & the docs opted to do a more private wake-up for Marisa...in the old medical cloister where the Series One girls had been activated.
Spoiler:

In a dark room, the red-haired girl opened her eyes…wet with tears, which seemed very normal to her. There was only a single light in the room, and a man with grey hair and a matching beard sat under it, reading from a file. She was not afraid of him, in fact she felt a warm, satisfied sensation when she laid eyes on him, like he was an old, trusted friend, or maybe a family member.

The man noticed she was awake, and put on his eyeglasses. "Hello Marisa," he said in a soft, calming tone, "do you know my name?"

She did not, but only one name filled her mind, so she spoke it, "Elio Alboreto, sir."

"Very good" he replied with a smile, "and do you know what this is?" He held on his open palm a pistol. He had only picked it up from the armory 30 minutes ago...it was the only thing they had in stock, but it would work for now.

"Beretta 92FS" she answered correctly. Instinctively she took the pistol, tipped the barrel up and moved the slide back to check the chamber. Elio was pleased to see that. "It doesn't have any bullets in it" she told him. The girl handed the pistol back and added "it's useless to me like this."

"You'll get plenty of rounds later" Alboreto informed her, accepting the Beretta back.

She rolled over onto her side, wrapping the bed-sheet over her naked body, "I only need one" she said, and then went back to sleep.

Re: What was your cyborg's first encounter with the handler?

Both occurs for Fernando in Solution's Resolution...

In Chapter 5: Fernando and Rachel has known each other since who knows when, so upon discovering that Rachel has been cyborgized...

Spoiler:
Jean: Before we go any further, I need to know if you on our team for our cause, because it is necessary for the next step.

Fernando: And what step is this.

Jean: Among the other things you will receive today, you will be introduced to your cyborg counterpart.

Fernando: And if I refuse to have a cyborg counterpart?

Jean: Until now, no one has refused a cyborg. It is you and your indecision…

Fernando (interrupting Jean): My indecision for what? As far as I am told, as far as I am ordered, I work for the United States Secret Intelligence- not you guys. And as far as I remember- we are working together for a common goal, and you are to give me that I need to get the job done.

Jean: You are nothing of what your records states.

Fernando: You listen to me. I get the job done when it is something that I believe it right. I do not care about what records or others have to say about me. And nothing you had shown me has convinced me that what you do here is right.

Jean: I see. How about this: you get to see the cyborg and then decide. If you decide yes- you become part of the team and the cyborg is yours to teach, train and do as you wish her to be. You decide no- you will be on your way home by week's end.

Fernando: And what is to happen to the cyborg?

Jean: She'll be given to another fratello.

Fernando: Lets see this cyborg.

Within a minute, they arrive to a dark room, with a 2-way mirror panel facing a patient's ward. A bed has been put in front of the of the glass panel to show off the patient inside. In the far end of he room, Ferro sat in front of a computer. As they entered the room, Jean orders Ferro to leave. Eventually she complies before they entered.

Jean steps to the far end to where the computer was, standing by the far end of the window/mirror panel. Fernando walks over to the center of the panel and looks in. For a second, he looks at the girl in the bed, taking his glasses off and continues looking. He then places his glasses into his shirt pocket, and folds his cane before putting it into his suit pocket. He continues to look at the girl in the bed.

Fernando: Give me a reason why I should not kill you and take 1/2 of this facility with me?

Jean: Eh?

Fernando quickly draws his gun so fast, he rips part of his jacket as he pulls out his gun, smacking Jean across the jaw with it and places it muzzle against Jean's temple. He then grabs Jean from behind and pins him against the glass, keeping his gun to Jean's temple.

Fernando: Why is she here?

Jean: Who?

Fernando: The girl in the bed… that's my god daughter!

Jean: Jane Doe is related to you?

Fernando: Her name is Rachel… Now what have you done with her?… I swear- give me an answer that will save your life.

Jean: We did not know she was related to you…

Fernando: Not good enough…

Fernando pulls back on the gun's ejection mechanism to load a large bore .45 caliber bullet into the chamber, and unlocks its safety lever.

Jean: OK… It was an accident! One of our cyborgs ended up in a confrontation with the police and your god daughter was shot several times by both sides. But she carried no identification, nobody knew who she was!

Fernando: Keep talking… as if your life depends because it now does.
...
..
.

In Chapter 48: Francesca was a whole different story with Fernando...

Spoiler:
Before Rachel can return to her seat, a scarred up dirty 20-something homeless woman wearing tattered clothes and wrapped in a blanket walks up to Fernando asking for money. She was deformed and beaten, despite having red hair and green eyes- traits that would make her successful in private circles. Fernando tries to tell the woman that he does not speak Italian. She response with a Spanish curse towards him before walking away.

Fernando (Translated from Spanish): Hey Lady- get back here!

She stops in mid step and slowly turns towards him. (The rest of the conversation is translated from Spanish unless noted.)

Fernando: Have a seat while I wait for my daughter to return.

The homeless young woman slowly walks back to the table. She takes the seat and pulls it back.

Fernando: Now have a seat.

Homeless Woman: How do you know I'm not seated?

Fernando: I did not hear you sit down.

Homeless Woman: So… You are…

Fernando: Blind- no. I may not be able to see with my eyes, but I see in other ways.

Homeless Woman: Tell me, what do you see?

Fernando: If you mean you- I see somebody who is down on her luck, who has not had a home in a long time and had to beg for every penny and dime to get something to eat. Now tell me, what's your story? Tell me why in such a country like this that has programs and opportunities for those in need that you are at the bottom of the barrel?

Homeless Woman: Those programs and opportunities are for Native Born Italians. I am not Italian.

Fernando: Do you have a name?

Homeless Woman: I don't remember.

Fernando: Do you know or remember what had happened to you?

Homeless Woman: Last thing I can remember is being told that I was found on the edge of the river in the forest at the border of northern Italy and southern France and that wild animal had attacked me. The doctors in France gave me an artificial arm and leg.

Fernando: But why are you here in Rome, and not in Milan, Paris or someplace up there?

Homeless Woman: something told me to come back here, like this was my home but I cant find it.

Fernando: Don't you have relatives? Friends?

Homeless Woman: Not that I remember.

later down the chapter

Fernando: How much of you has been replaced? I mean that arm of yours, I can her the electronic motors within moving and they sound like they are in desperate need of maintenance.

Homeless Woman: In you want to know the truth, from what the doctors in France told me, they found in my x-ray pictures both eyes, both arms, shoulders, spinal column, pelvis, legs, and other parts had been replaced. But when I was found, the right side was heavily damaged or missing and were replaced with inferior parts that they had.

Fernando: That is pretty extensive for reconstruction. And as if you had undergone this procedure before, there must be a record of it somewhere to be found, and perhaps a key to your true identity. Maybe you underwent through the original procedure because of a car or plane accident. Maybe a house fire?

Homeless Woman: I don't know because I don't remember.

Fernando: Well, getting you out of this mess you are in is a key to getting you to who you once were. You still want to walk that path?

Homeless Woman: Do I have a choice?

Fernando: You can stay in the streets as far as I care.

Homeless Woman: Uhm…

Fernando: That's the evil side of me that I warned you about. Do Not Question Or Mock My Generosity.

Homeless Woman: Then can I ask what would I have to do to earn money from you?

Fernando lowers his glasses to look her straight in the eye, showing off how the whites of his sclera's were turning red.

Fernando: What have I said- I anger quickly and easy to lose patience.

Homeless Woman: I don't mean to do that. Its… uhm, a curiosity. I mean, uhm, when men say that to me, its to….uhm…

Fernando: To buy sex from you. Well, you can rest assured that I do not want that from you… or any other woman for the long term interim. Besides, men who have to buy sex from women, there is something wrong with them. Sex is supposed to be free. Free as the air I breathe and water I drink. Anyways…

Fernando slides his sandwich and drink to her.

Fernando: I'm not hungry.

Rachel reaches over to the food and tries to grab the food to slide it back to him. He in turns blocks her hand from taking it.

Rachel: Dad!

Fernando: What?

Rachel: If you were going to eat it, then why buy it?

Fernando: Again Rachel, don't go against by my decisions.

Rachel (bowing her head down): I'm sorry daddy.

Fernando: Don't be. I can see of your concern, but its uncalled for in this case.

Rachel: Aright father…

Homeless Woman: You don't want to eat this food?

Fernando: I'm not hungry. You can have it if you want.

She looks at it for the moment before deciding. She takes it and puts it into her back pack that was given to her before. After a moment of silence, Fernando speaks up.

Fernando: Are we ready to go?

Rachel nods as she gets out of her seat. The homeless woman looks at them both as he gets up an sticks his arm out slightly for Rachel to grab onto.

Homeless Woman: You are lost without her.

Fernando: actually, we are both lost without each other, but that's besides the point. Come on, follow me. It's a long walk.

She gets up as Fernando and Rachel walk around the table. Fernando leads them as he taps his cane in front of him. Within blocks of the compound, Fernando pulls out his cell and makes a call to Dr. Bianchi's direct line.

Fernando: Yes, Dr. Bianchi. I have a situation that needs your direct attention. No, Rachel's fine for the moment. Would you meet me at the entrance gate? Thank you.

Within another 5 minutes Fernando, Rachel and the homeless woman were at the gate. Dr. Bianchi was there with a couple of medical techs and Ferro waiting for them as they arrived. Fernando stops in front of the crowd.

Fernando: My. I was not expecting this.

Dr. Bianchi: You said you had a situation. Situations from you seem to demand the most attention.

Ferro: What's going on Fernando?

Fernando: Oh nothing that would demand an emergency. Uhm… Dr. Bianchi… how can I put this? I want you to take this young lady to the medical lab and check her out.

Dr. Bianchi: I will do no such thing!

Fernando: Excuse me?

Dr. Bianchi: I will not take unknown strangers into a classified medical facility without authorization from Chief Lorenzo or Dr. Gilliani.

Fernando: Dr. Bianchi… you will do me the favor or you will forever regret that you have and regret the day you ever met me even more. Do I make myself clear? Now do a complete head to toe scan before doing the psychological stuff. She does not remember a thing but I'm sure that with your expertise that she will regain something.

Dr. Bianchi: Ferro-note that I am under protest about this, and will be calling the chief when I start the preliminary examinations.

Ferro: Protest noted. Now Fernando, don't we have a meeting?

Fernando: Yes we do. Excuse me for a second.

Fernando turns to the homeless woman.

Fernando: Miss? You can go with the good doctor here. Let him examine you and show him your arm. I'll be there to checkup on you in about an hour.

Homeless Woman: You… promise?

Fernando: I promise that we will both be there.

Fernando turns to Dr. Bianchi.

Fernando: Check that arm out for her.

Dr. Bianchi gives him a scowl before having his medical techs take the homeless woman to the lab for examination. Ferro stands in front of Rachel and Fernando.

Ferro: You have a lot of explaining to do.

Fernando: Why should I? Seems to me that this agency has a lot of explaining to do.

Ferro: What do you mean by that?

Fernando can only put his hand to his face and shake his head. He then recomposes himself to answer.

Fernando: Tell me Ferro- how many cyborgs are out there in the field, running around rampant with a handler or a mission directive?

Ferro: Huh?

Fernando: That girl I brought in was a cyborg. Now what was she doing running around like some homeless person?

later down the chapter

They wait in silence for Chief Lorenzo to arrive. It was a long 10 minutes, but the Chief arrives with a bandaged up Tee behind him, carrying a large document box with her. Tee drops the document box by Fernando's feet before going to stand beside the door. Lorenzo takes to Ferro's desk as she steps out to take a seat, near by.

Lorenzo: Of all the insubordinate acts one can ever bestow upon this institution this must be the grandest of all. But before you say anything, I'm waiting for a call from Dr. Bianchi on the patient's exam results. I don't want to hear a word until afterwards.

It was a long 15 minutes, but the telephone rings. Lorenzo picks it up and answers it.

Lorenzo: Yes, I see. Are you certain that it is. Fine. I'll be there in a moment.

Chief Lorenzo hangs up the phone and then turns to Fernando.

Lorenzo: You must have the devil's luck, I swear.

Fernando: What do you mean?

Lorenzo: That was Chief Medical Doctor Belisario. According to him, what you brought over here is a lost cyborg that was presumed dead years ago.

Finally in Chapte 50...
Spoiler:
Marco: So, who is this?

Fernando: This is the lost cyborg found, rebuilt, reprogrammed and reconditioned. Apparently she has been assigned to me as a supervising handler though she will be running as an independent unit. That is where the confusion started, I was called for 'my cyborg' though she is not exactly my cyborg. Rachel is, and Rachel is more than just a cyborg to me.

Marco: Never mind about Rachel for now. What are you going to do with this unit?

Fernando: What am I going to do? I don't know. I cant outright abandoned her, but I cant have her either.

Marco: You need to solve that…

Francesca (waking up – interrupting the conversation): Uh… where am I?

Fernando steps into her view, putting his hand on her shoulder.

Fernando: You relax and do not get up. You're not dressed under that blanket.

Francesca: I remember you.

Fernando: Do you remember your name?

Francesca: Its Francesca.

Fernando: And mine?

Francesca: Its… uhm… Fernando?

Fernando: Correct. Now you remember why you came here?

Francesca: You said that these people would be able to help me.

Fernando: Correct. Remember what condition you were in when you came in?

Francesca: Not a very good one…

She rises to hands to her face, looking at them.

Francesca: I can feel my hands. I could not do that before.

Fernando: Rachel, get the mirror on the examining table.

Francesca sits up on the bed, uncovering her feet to look at them. Rachel gives her the mirror for her to look at herself with. After a while of looking at herself, a tear starts to roll down from her eyes.

Fernando: Are you OK?

Francesca: Never happier.

Fernando: Why the tears?

Francesca: It's a miracle.

Fernando: Not exactly.

Francesca: I now have a new body, that is no longer deformed or connected to artificial parts.

Fernando: It's a new body, much of it artificial. But its connected to the rest of you in such a way that you cant tell the difference. Its perfect as far as you can tell. But its not a miracle. More like a pact with the devil.

Francesca: How so?

Fernando: Do you know why this body was given to you, why you are here?

Francesca: To follow your and the agency's orders, carry out arrest and termination orders, and conduct missions as per such orders. I'm also to be tested upon as per medical requirements.

Fernando: Then you know what you have is a cyborg body.

Francesca: It's a new body, compared to the one I had before, its perfect.

I'll type up Felix and Francesca's meet up another time.

Re: What was your cyborg's first encounter with the handler?

Post by tremec6speed on Thu 24 Feb 2011 - 21:46

Man, I love reading everybody's initial meeting of their character's lives!
head bang
Michele is so friendly and charitable, indeed like Santa! I mean, he is all business too as he affirms his partner's knowledge of the weapons she'll be using.
Always a pleasure reading/seeing Alfisti's manga! I had assumed (wrongly)
that Monty had chosen her own hair style. Hmm... Jethro's comments about the $$ spent on the reforming hair style is the kind of realistic conversation that brings a story to life.
When I read Danjo's short but powerful meeting, especially this part:
*Biff glared at the young cyborg. “Oh, you ain’t seen nothing yet. For your information, I didn’t take this job to be your fucking babysitter, so you better just get used to it.”*
I was like DAMN! Salvatore, you're a pup compared to this guy! Muh-m-muhahahaha! I feel bad for Elio as he shows that despite his being a professional, he's also only human becoming an alcoholic. At least he recovered and picked up where he left off. Also, it's good to see that Lorenzo is also human and tried to accommodate him. What can I say about Fernando other than he kicks ass!
The way he took down Jean is no easy feat. I think 'tore would not prevail against Jean in a one on one fight, because it looks like Mister Aida made him out to be pretty bad ass himself. Still Fernando's a caring guy that looked out for that missing cyborg. cheers Not to mention how hard it must be to find someone you care for having been, how should I put it, 'inducted'?! into the SWA there by feeling pressure to join......wow.

I got a kick out of Salvatore's aloof attitude concerning his cyborg's wake-up...he didn't even introduce himself or have a name picked out yet!

Chapter 70 shows Jean does indeed have some meat on his bones...

Re: What was your cyborg's first encounter with the handler?

Post by MP5 on Fri 25 Feb 2011 - 1:17

this was Allison's meeting with Brian:

Two days later, Brian returned to the Section 2 Compound to meet his cyborg as she awoke. In the monitoring room next to his cyborg's post-op bed, behind a one-way mirror, Brian was hammering down final details with Ferro, who was typing information into a computer terminal.

“So what will you name her?”

“...Allison. Allison McDonnell.”

“You want her to share your surname?”

“The way I see it, everyone should have a family to call their own.”

“As you say.” replied Ferro, typing in the information into her PC. A quick sound alerted them to the fact that Allison was waking up.

“Better go greet her, Brian.”

The Irishman stepped out of the observation room and opened the door to Allison's temporary bedroom. As he shut the door behind him, Allison slowly rose from under the covers, dressed in a thin hospital gown. She awoke like a true sedate teenager, yawning as she sat up, smacking her lips once or twice. Brian chuckled; at first glance, Allison really was just a normal teenage girl.

“Good morning, sleepyhead. You rest well?” asked Brian, approaching her bedside.

“Of course!” replied Allison cheerfully. Brian smiled at her, and she returned the smile.

“You mind telling me your name?”

“Allison. Allison McDonnell. And you are my handler, Brian McDonnell!” she stated happily. Brian hid the slight displeasure at the title of 'handler'. Allison was a person, not a trained animal.

“That's correct, Allison. But please, consider me a partner, and call me Brian. I'm not comfortable with being referred to as your 'handler'. You all right with that?”

“Sure, no problem, Brian!”

Brian smiled for the second time in five minutes. He never asked for her to be so sunny and cheerful, but she was very lightly conditioned, and the result was the exposure of her true personality. The smile faded from his face as he produced a metallic case, no bigger or wider than a sheet of printer paper. Setting it down at the foot of Allison's bed, he watched as she opened the case's latches. Opening the case itself, Allison found a M1911-style pistol with cocking serrations at the front and back of the slide and featured a small tactical rail integrated into the frame. The case included three 7-round magazines, two other guide rods, a threaded barrel, and a large box of .45 ACP ammunition. Lifting the pistol out of its case, Allison inspected it as she hefted the empty gun, pulling back the slide and checking for a round in-battery to verify if it was loaded or not.

“Do you know what this weapon is, Allison?” Brian asked.

“Of course. It's an American-made Kimber Custom TLE/RL II. You can tell by the cocking serrations, located at the front and rear, and the tactical rail they built into the frame. 5-inch barrel, flat-top slide with fixed Tritium night sights, and chambered for .45 Automatic Colt Pistol ammo. A standard modernized version of the Colt M1911A1, built for usage by Tactical Law-Enforcement teams like SWAT and Special Response Teams. ” Allison answered, racking the slide and dry-firing the weapon in a safe direction. But pulling the trigger made her notice more about it.

“Wait a minute. This isn't a stock Custom II. The trigger pull feels lighter. It's match grade, but the normal pull is about 4-5 pounds. This one is at least half the factory setting.”

She then flicked a small tab on the slide stop so that its protrusion was in line with the slide stop. This suddenly lit up a red dot where she aimed the weapon. “A LaserMax Internal Laser Sight?! Wow! This thing's amazing! But won't this give away my position?” she asked Brian.

Trying to hide his astonishment at her spot-on analysis of her sidearm, he answered, “That's why there's two other guide rods. Section 2 had LaserMax create a separate IR laser sight, and the other guide rod is the stock guide rod on the Custom TLE. We figured this would leave you free to install a flashlight—if you were so inclined.”

“Did you choose this for me?”

“Well, of course I did--”

“Thank you Brian, I'll treasure it forever!” chirped Allison with a smile.

“Uh... you're welcome, I guess.” the Irishman replied, unsure how to feel. He then produced another object, this one a bundle of clothing. Allison unwrapped it to find an outfit consisting of a pleated skirt, thigh-high stockings, Nike sneakers, and a v-neck cashmere sweater.

“Get dressed.” said Brian. “The weather's lovely outside, and I still have something else for you, but we have to go somewhere to get it. Meet me in the parking lot when you're done getting dressed, all right?”

With that, Brian exited the room, and Allison quickly started changing into her new outfit.

Re: What was your cyborg's first encounter with the handler?

Post by ElfenMagix on Fri 25 Feb 2011 - 1:20

Felix and Francesca... as one of the first Fratellos some 10 years before the current time line where everyone is at. Along with Alpha and Omega, they wrote book on cyborg care and mission training and specifications.

In the end of Chapter 5 of SWA Beginnings: Francesca
Spoiler:
Soon he was outside an obstacle course, where several men in lab coats were measuring various results from a lone little red-haired girl who was in t-shirt, shorts and sneakers. Obstacles that would have taken an average man sometime to clear, she went around them with ease. Chief Lorenzo approaches the men from behind silently with the interviewee right behind. Soon the red haired girl stops in front of the men, barely out of breathe.

Dr. Frankenstein looks at his clipboard, "Well done my dear…"

"Another record broken?" Chief Lorenzo asks.

"Looks like it.", Dr. Bianchi says as he looks at his digital watch.

"Well gentlemen, this is Felix. He's going to be Francesca's new trainer and handler," Chief Lorenzo explains. "He comes highly recommended."

In the beginning of Chapter 6 of SWA Beginnings: Francesca
Spoiler:
Dr. Frankenstein looks at his clipboard, "Well done my dear…"

"Another record broken?" Chief Lorenzo asks.

"Looks like it," Dr. Bianchi says as he looks at his digital watch.

"Well gentlemen, this is Felix. He's going to be Francesca's new trainer and handler," Chief Lorenzo explains. "He comes highly recommended."

"I hope he knows fluent Spanish…" Dr. Frankenstein began to say.

Felix walks up to Francesca, extending his hand to her. She takes it and expects to shake it, but he flips it to her knuckles and slowly draws it to his lips. "¿Ah, Francesca es tú nombré? Nada es mas bonita ques un niña boñita con un nombré precósia… {Translated: Ah, Francesca is your name? Nothing is more prettier than a pretty girl with a precious name.}", Felix says before kissing her knuckles. Francesca could only blush and timidly stand there as he does.

"Does that answer your question, Mien Herr doktor?" Dr. Belgonchi asks.

Miffed at the scene, Dr. Frankenstein walks to Francesca, putting a hand between the two.

"I do not know what you have on your mind, sir, but she is a young girl of early teen years! Mind where you put your paws on her!", Dr. Frankenstein states sternly to Felix.

Felix slowly withdraws. "With all due apologies, sir."

"No apologies needed for a simple misunderstanding…" Chief Lorenzo started to say. "Dr. Frankenstein, this is Felix. He'll be handling Francesca training and exercises for now on. Any input you can give him on her abilities will be greatly appreciated."

"So, this is the one I'm supposed to train?" Felix asks. "But, she is just a mere girl…"

"In your sickest of wet dreams she is just a mere girl!" Dr. Frankenstein almost shouted at him. Then he turns at Francesca. "Francesca, one more lap around course."

Francesca sighs before she begins running the gauntlet of course, going through obstacles as if she were a terrible two year old thrashing through her toys in a tantrum. Felix was about to follow her but he freezes in place as he sees her hurdle a 2 meter high wall that was intended for her to climb over instead. His jaw just drops. She finishes the rest of the obstacle course with relative ease.

Four hours later, Felix is sitting on a military cloth & wood folding chair in a small room. The traveling trunk of his personal belongings next to a folding sleeping cot stood as a table. The pillow and blankets smelled like that have been in a storage drum since the last great war, and they probably have. At least the bathroom had running water, but the pipes had to be flushed through for several minutes to clear them out of possible settlement and contamination. New furniture should will be ordered and delivered during the weekend. For now, this would be home for Felix, even though he is eating Chinese dinner out of a box on the trunk and his multi-band radio tuned to BBC Radio. At least the room was washed down from ceiling to floor and was relatively dirt and dust free.

A knock on the door caught him unrepentantly. After a second of recomposing himself, He slowly walked to the door, opening it. Francesca stood there in the same t-shirt, shorts, ankle sox and sneakers she wore at the obstacle course.

"What are you doing here? Classes don't start until tomorrow," Felix tells her.

"Dr. Belgonchi and Dr. Bianchi both told me that I should see you about something," she tells him with a semi dazed look in her eyes.

"I was not told of anything... come, sit," as Felix shows off the cot. Francesca walks into the room, sitting on the cot. "Is everything OK?"

Ryu looked around the small room. Rico stood behinde him watching the small cyborg girl who lay soundly in the bed. She blinked as the girl shot up with a yelp of what seemed to be fear.
'Easy... no ones going to hurt you Kiyra' Ryu asured, 'your safe... remember me... We're in Italy.
'R...Ryu... i cant remember anything.' She put a hand over her mouth, looked to the left and vomited.
'You need to sleep, ill come back later... Rico you look white, my dorme's closer you need to sleep.

During the next days, the medical staff modified the girl, turned her into a cyborg and used a conditioning drug to erase her memories.
In an office with a one-way-mirror Ferro was asking Etienne some questions.
“Have you chosen a name for her?”
With a look on the girl laying in a bed on the other side of the mirror he gave his answer. “It's Emilie with an 'ie' at the end.”
“Okay, it's your choice.” She tipped the name into the computer in front of her. ”Hey, you should go. She seems to wake up soon.”
He left and went to the room where Emilie laid. As he entered the room, she woked up
With a friendly sound in his voice he asked the girl that immediately sat up in her bed.
“Hey, Emilie. How are you?”
The black haired girl rubbed her blue eyes. “I'm a bit dizzy but fine.”
He smiled happily and padded the head of the girl that starred at him. “Nice to hear.”

...Jethro wasn't one of them. His first encounter with Monty face-to-face as it were was probably about 10 minutes before she woke up, being shown her through a pane of one-way glass with Ferro telling him, "This is your cyborg. Do not break her, they do not grow on trees."

In my original story timeline, Michele rescued Kara from the Atocha Train Station bombings in Madrid in 2004. He followed her progress and when it was clear she'd become a ward of the French State due to the death of her family (assuming she did not die in Spain from her injuries), he worked to get her into the Agency's cybernetic augmentation program.

Good twist on the question.

Elio & Dr. Belisario flew to Dublin to check out a prospect. There they found the girl who would become Marisa, comatose in the burn ward of a charity hospital. A brief inspection tagged her as a viable candidate so an Italian military med-evac plane was summoned.

While the plane was on its way Elio remained at the hospital with the Chief Surgeon...Belisario went to lunch and got lucky with a hot Indian doctor.

Rachel and Fernando knew each other for years before the SWA dragged them into this world of quarrel and misadventures.

As for Francesca, Fernando knew of her existance as early as a couple of months before actually meeting her.

Chapter 34 of Solution's Resolution
Spoiler:
Fernando: You know Jean, I went through the SWA's servers and through every deleted and shredded file through the system and I managed to piece together a very interesting story. It seems that Angelica was not the first prototype cyborg, though she was the first successful longest living prototype. Two year before Angie, there was Francesca- a 12 year old red haired Spaniard who came into the SWA cyborg program by chance. Her parents signed her over to the SWA to cure her of her Leukemia and Lupus. The normal doctors gave her 4 to 6 months at most. The SWA doctors managed to gave her 9 months. Don't get me wrong, according to the records, she could have lived longer. So, lets see… Hmmm… Last entry on her diary was 11/24 of her final year:

Francesca: Dear Diary. Today my handler and I will go to the Italian Alps in search of the political separatists who have formed various connections to mafia and other organized crime syndications. Felix and I will infiltrate the group , offer them arms and cash, and once accepted into their inner circle- kill them all. It would be a 4 hour drive to get there, but I would be ready for them…

Fernando: It goes on with mission details and other details. But it does not end there.

SWA Mission Report, 12/7: More than two weeks of searching for the Felix/Francesca, the remains of an automobile bearing the description of Felix's personal mission vehicle: red 1999 Alpha Romero Spyder 2L engine 2 seater; was found at the midway down a cliff from a mountain road being supported by the local area cliff side's vegetation. A body of a male in his 30's, fitting Felix's description was found 100 meters further down from the crash site. Only traces of a second occupant was found, including a decapitated arm of cyborg origin was found with remnants of automobile and tattered bits of clothing, hair, skin and cyborg parts litter a path for another 300 meters down the side of the cliff, but only enough to complete 20 of a reconstructed body. No major parts such as the head/skill or torso was found. Further testing and DNA Matching to be conducted to determine if these remains are that of the Felix/Francesca team.

Fernando takes the various items from Dr. Bianchi's grasp and prepares them as he continues with the story.

Fernando: Well, it took 3 weeks to determine that it was Felix and Francesca through DNA matching, though they did find identification around the car and on Felix's body. It was also determined that Felix suffered a gunshot wound to the head. But in the paranoid mindset of the spy game agencies, there was questions of 'What if these were somebody else posing as Felix and Francesca, then happened to the real Felix and Francesca?' Then questions were asked about Francesca's apparent disintegration, and many tests were conducted on the found Francesca parts. It would be another 2 years before another cyborg was made- that cyborg being Angie. Now why the SWA tried to keep this secret and deleted the files is beyond me. Furthermore, why there are no memorials, grave markers or funeral records is also beyond me. I figure if one gives one's life to the agency, that there should be something of the person in remembrance for others to recognize the sacrifices that they had made. But this is not my country, nor my honor is at stake, but the life of somebody who I care about even though some in this room would consider her as nothing more than a tool- is. I'm not here to start an issue about cyborg rights, but I am here for one thing- that who many would consider as my cyborg but who I consider as my little girl. And it is for her life that I do these things. So if I kill her, its something that I do to end her misery.

But meeeting Francesca was actually different. He had a feeling that who he found was the missing cyborg but proving it to those who declared her dead was another story. ( http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3789718/48/Solutions_Resolution )

Re: What was your cyborg's first encounter with the handler?

Post by MP5 on Thu 14 Apr 2011 - 20:36

Brian's first encounter with Allison was almost business-like in nature-- he was able to see her Allison as a recuperated Shelby Mercer before he decided what he wanted her to be like, specifically choosing her eye and hair color as well as the level of built-in protection-- not unlike choosing the options list on a car... thankfully, after that, their relationship became more familial in nature.
----------
On the other end of the spectrum, you have Vincent Pucci and his cyborg, Carmelita. Their first encounter was a bit more personal in nature, as Vincent intentionally violated his jurisdiction by going into Mexico to chase down fugitive Domingo Fuentes in Juarez after failing to take him down in El Paso, Texas. By this point, Vincent had known that Carmelita was Fuentes' hostage and was even more driven tot ake down Fuentes before any harm could come to Carmelita. Unfortunately, by the time he had arrived, not only were her parents dead, but Carmelita had been raped repeatedly and stabbed and slashed multiple times with a hunting knife. Vincent only managed to end Carmelita's ordeal with his then-issued Mossberg 500 and Glock 22, the latter of which he used to neutralize (but not terminate) Domingo Fuentes, who was not initially present when Vincent found the hideout where Carmelita had been taken to.

Things did not end there, since the local police showed up after the shootout began. Vincent, once released from custody to be (for lack of a better term) deported to the U.S., was allowed to take one person related to the case with him. While he could have brought in a wanted fugitive, he didn't want to abandon Carmelita to potentially die in Mexico, and so he chose her, essentially, over his job.

Haven't been on here in forever...

Alfred's meeting with May when she was still Andrea and very fearful. She had managed to stab him with a fork when trying to speak to her.

Needless to say the kind of potential he saw in her eyes made him choose her. He had no idea that when he introduced her to not a pistol, not a rifle but a Beretta SMG model 7 that she would go wild on the training grounds.

Rodrigo's meeting with Aileen had began when she was almost killed by her own father laying in her mother's arms dying. After finding out just what the SWA did he ended up pulled into it. Their first formal meeting as fratello was one to remember in his book.

"Hey finally awake."

"Where's my mother? Where is Flora?" She had launched a flurry of questions about her old family and friends demanding to know what happened to her.

"Hold up! Hold up! You can remember everything?"

"Idiot! Of course I can!"

He recieved her breakfast platter to the face later on.

Re: What was your cyborg's first encounter with the handler?

Post by ChaosKin640 on Fri 22 Apr 2011 - 0:41

Jacob's first meeting with Sophia was more-or-less by-the-book. As a production-line cyborg, Sophia was already in the later stages of her conversation when he was hired, so he was given only minimal input in terms of her physical characteristics. When Jacob goes through the process of first meeting Sophia upon her awakening, he does so in a very standard, business-like manner. He ran her through the normal questions to ensure the Conditioning was working properly, presented her with her side arm and gave her the run-down of her training schedule.
Over the course of their first two weeks of training, Jacob quickly began to latch onto Sophia as a surrogate replacement for his son, who by this point had died 8 years previous. They end up developing a very close father-daughter bond.

Inversely, Jacob's first meeting with Melanie was vastly different. To start with, Jacob himself picked out Melanie at the hospital and provided much of the details of how she was to look. However, most of this involvement on his part was forced on him by Jean & Lorenzo. The idea was to try and force him to emotionally connect with the new cyborg and move past his feelings of guilt and failure over Sophia's death. As those of you who have been reading my chapters know, it hasn't worked out so well. Jacob went into his first meeting with an almost complete disregard towards her. He was basically just going through the motions because that was what he was being paid to do; nothing more. Melanie's own emerging inadequacies and failing during her initial weeks of training only served to worsen this attitude in him.

Hmm, that to me seems like an odd tactic on the part of Jean and Lorenzo. I guess it's probably different depending on the personality of the handler, but to me letting someone pick a subject, and then "option her out" as it were would make it more difficult to view the cyborg as a human and connect on an emotional level.

One of the reasons I had Jethro come in so late in Monty's conversion was because I wanted them to have to work together and bond as people. I can't help but think that, if a handler has had the chance to build a cyborg to his specification, there's going to be some sort of expectation as to what she should be like... and expectation that's likely to proved wrong.

Then again... people get attached to cars so Wink

Well, maybe not so much of an attachment to her as a person, as a sense of ownership. I think the idea was, after all of the time he's spent being involved in her conversion and construction, he can't help but feel some connection to her; if only as tool. The point was to get him involved and interested in staying involved with her as his partner. The emotional bonding can come later. Unfotunately, for reasons that were beyond Jean & Lorenzo's control, that plan hasn't worked out so well so far. Fortunately, however, despite his deeply scarred and jaded outlook, Jacob is still esentially a good person and those core elements of his personality are trying to fight through to the surface.
