I know I should read previous posts carefully before posting myself, but there's little time in teh world.

Ep 3 changed a bunch of things. Triela spent a lot of time blushing. The tension between Hillshire and Triela was not expressed at all, and her reaction to Hillshires "I'd never betray you." is gone.

Also, someone pointed this out, Triela's reaction to the defeat is quite a bit less significant then in the manga.

Also, in the manga it was Triela who convinced Hillshire to go in. In the ep. There was no discussion over it, Hillshire just said I can't leave her and that was it.

But, in general, it was a lot better then ep 1...

Try downloading the klcodec pack (also called the k-light codec pack). It has practically every codec you can think of. Then you download real-alternative, and quick-time alternative and you can play everything.

The change was probably made for a reason; maybe it gets them where they're taking the story easier or more plausibly, even if it's the same destination as the manga. I still don't like it, though. While it doesn't further a plot arc, it show-cased something important to me, how Hillshire was doing it right. He had suceeded at the first and most important job of raising someone, he'd made a good, functioning human being. As a weapon, she backtalks and is prone to deciding which orders to follow. As an emotional crutch, she's given to not worshiping the ground his shadow falls upon. As a person, he nailed it. She's him, five-foot tall with an armor-reinforced skelliton and ovaries.

I agree to a certain extent to that, i thought that the blushing expressed some of the tension between them, especially the way he reacted when Hilshire told her the betrayal remark. It had a certain undertone to it.
It wasn´t only to show that her attraction is blatantly obvious in the anime, at least i hope so.

The reason that upset me was not because of the implications that it may or may not have, but because it is a regression to the typical and uninteresting, not to mention out of character.

The complexity, dynamism, and unpredictability are all downplayed.

But at least not totally non-existent. Hopefully they won´t focus so much on that in the future.

And hopefully Yu Aida realizes that Artland was the worst possible choice for the animation studio.

In Japan? That's a non-issue. Considering what you see in other comparable manga (I'm not even talking abouot hentai) Yu's is very tame. A naked 16 year old is something you can see in practically any manga, and I doubt the average Jap even notices. The fact that he's touching on the subject of that type or relationship is not anything new either.

That's true within the anime/manga community, but I hear outside of "otaku" and similar communities loli/pedophilia is looked down upon in Japan by the "everyday" person. I'd assume Yu Aida doesn't ONLY hang out with fellow manga-philes.

Adorable kids? Yes, they're accepted nearly everywhere outside Japan as well...But not all Japanese are loli-lovers who love watching said adorable kids take showers/make out/upskirt. Razz

It seemed odd since the beginning when they announced that Artland was animating this when most series with long breaks are usually made by the same team and studio (Black Lagoon, Tsubasa Chronicles and Ghost in the Shell to name a few). Not counting with the voice actors. Bad luck i guess.

Actually, i got a friend living there that says that in certain cities of japan, Otaku are even more "condemned" than in Eastern countries and that in others it´s like social manga heaven. But generally speaking, japan is much more "relaxed" compared to Europe and especially America.

Plenty of rumors are going around local anime circles that Yu dumped Madhouse due to disputes over how much control he would have over the animated adaptation of his manga. I can't confirm anything, though.

Well Sintendo was the guy who Scanlated Volumes 4 & 5.
and when i was doing Volume 6, he was proof reader/final editor.

with Volume 7 i handled it all on my own.

but sadly my Scan Cleaning skill isn't that great, i cant clean complex drawings, maybe a face and some hair i can fix, but other then that i am useless...

i got 2 screens hooked up to my PC which allows me to have PhotoShop on one screen and Word with the Translations on the other.

The only reason I even suggested doing scanlations is because we had a 2 year GSG drought after volume 3.

That was not cool....

What was cool was that a few weeks after we released volume 4 (and a few thousand downloads of said volume later) ADV announced the release of volumes 4 and up. LOL, I think we had something to do with it.

Also, I said in our scans that since volumes 4 and up were finally being released, I would stop participating in the scanlation project since I believe in supporting the artist I like.

Yeah. Anime first sells to TV stations and those pay for ratings (they also pay for rights and not per viewer). Then the merchendise comes and that's a big part of it too.

Also, all anime gets pirated, and that does not cause all anime to have to resort to bad animation studios. The real reason why GSG has to resort to a cheap studio is that it does not cater to main stream tastes and that's that.

Then there is the whole 'I can make a difference idea'. The truth is I don't think I make any noticable difference if I buy one DVD set or (to use a more universal example) recycle a bottle. If I really would care about something, I would join a group interested in the concept. With the help of psyhology/sociology/law/advertising such a group could (perhaps) make, say, 500,000 people recycle their bottles. Now at that point I would have made a small, but (perhaps) noticable difference. If I do that then I can drive an SUV and throw my bottles in the trash and I would still have made more of a difference then anyone who does not do those things.

Why is the posting of new episodes getting slower and slower?

Maybe the subbers are loosing their impetus. You can probably find out from some sub-tracking pages or the scanlators pages themselves whether they have subbed them. Then we will know whether we simply don't have the links posted or is it that they aren't subbed yet.

well, it looks like episode 4 finally gets the series to the end of volume 3 of the manga. the action scenes were, of course, poorly animated... but they look to have stayed faithful to the storyline. They just added a cameo or two and changed character positioning for a few things... to make it all more obvious, I suppose.

It might just be me, but I feel sorry for Aida, the animators, and season 2 as a whole. I mean, most of the "hardcore" GSG fans will still watch it, regardless of the QUALITY. But the rest of the viewers will probably stop watching it around episode 5 or so (the end of the Pinocchio arc, which is the big draw for this season).

I hope Yu pulls a Negima!?, Where the 1 season was so bad that they turned around and re-animated it and even tweaked the story around a bit. But I doubt he has the budget that Ken Akamatsu
had...

Hah, I'm still waiting for an adaptation of Negima that follows the manga. How could they cut out the coolest character in the manga? Kotaro is just so awesome that it makes me sad he was removed from the anime.

I don't really forsee a remake of season 2 for Gunslinger Girl. But then again, my psychic powers suck so yeah.

Just a guess, pare. The way things are going now, though, it's probably going to be around episodes 5, 6, or 7.

If that's the case, what the hell are the girls going to be doing on episode 8- 13? isn't pino's death going to be in probably episode 12 or something close to that?

I was thinking along the same lines. I may be wrong, but I was thinking that the raid on Cristiano’s house and the epic battle between Triela and Pino was going to be the grand finale.

Or, as you said, it may be ep.12 with ep.13 being reserved for a fluffy ending – much like was done in the first season.

PS: At the rate the girl's eyes are growing, they'll be out of head space before the final episode.

well as far as i know, ever episode is a chapter of the manga if i am correct, minus the first episode as that was more like a small into for those who didn't see GSG yet.

and with the plan being 13 episodes this season... well i guess that you can do the maths for you're self :p

Who knows. I mean, as far as anime stor arcs go, it's rare for the studio to have gaps between them...

But it's Yu's work, so it can happen.

I also have a feeling that it'll end with Sandro "shopping" around, with a brief intro of Petrushka/Liza. That would be a nice way to end season 2, but lead off to a season 3.

If they do that it'll be somthing I won't watch. The whole season will be about Petrushka because she's the main in 3 books... UGHHHH thinking about it makes me so MAD!!! >_< *shoots Petruska with my P-90*

I think season 3 should start with the Petra/Claes story (that’s right – no Petra history at all) and then jump straight to vol.9 & 10. As I’ve said before, they could do 13 full eps. on Petra alone if they wanted to.

Why is everyone pissed at Petra thou. Isn't season 1 more of a Henrietta season, season 2 a Triela season, so why not make season 3 a Petra season?

Episode 5 is up tomorrow, where is the subbed of episode 4?
