I found the episode to be average. Best part for me was the 80's soundtrack. Next week's episode sounds much better, hopefully.

Top Gear this week... the hot hatchback challenge could basically be summed up with:

The Nova's ability to be started by inverting its Hazard light switch was probably done deliberately, given how often it would have ended up in a ditch that ability would come in useful when you lost your keys in the crash !

To all of my writer friends I highly suggest watching a show called Flashpoint. Its a Canadian Cop Drama that focuses on human psycology in real life senarios. The good guys don't save everyone, the bad guys can win, sometimes you don't talk the jumper down.

You delve into the reaches of a victim/perpetrator's mind. You understand and empithize. Then you watch the ripples throughout the universe. You watch families cumble, people thrown into despair, but you also see the brilliance of the human spirit.

It really is a beautiful show. Great action and stuff too.

It is on Netflix and is on YouTube...all five seasons of it.

Sailor Zombie - Episodes 01 and 02

Two months have passed since a zombie epidemic began. Despite the chaos around, three high school students in sailor suits live ordinary school lives.

Maiko (Nana Owada) is a transfer student. She hopes to become an idol. Even though Maiko goes through various incidents, her friendship with Momoka (Rina Kawaei) and Mutsumi (Juri Takahashi) deepens.

One day, zombies attack people. Music comes out from the radio and the zombies stop their attack to dance. With this type of music, humans are protected from the zombies, but they can't find the music source. Since then, Maiko, Momoka and Mutsumi are threatened by the zombies.

 ...ugh.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen.

Sailor Zombie is based on the video game, Sailor Zombie ~AKB48 Arcade Edition~, which was released into Japanese arcades this April. In the game, players are given the task to save non-zombie AKB48 members as well as shoot vaccine bullets at AKB48 zombies (played by AKB48 members Nana Owada, Rina Kawaei, Juri Takahashi, Mayu Watanabe, Yui Yokoyama and Karen Iwata who are also actresses in the TV drama).

I love SBS2, who seem to have decided it's their job to show cult/so-good-its-bad-it's-good tv and movies... and generally take the piss out of everything else. So here's everyone's favourite news presenter Lee Lin Chin (who normally anchors SBS World News Australia... the serious, serious news), taking us on a short tour of the Barossa Valley.

Warning, possibly not for the easily offended/overly politically correct.

While I wait for the new season of Doctor Who to kick off in about three hours, I've started watching another UK show - A Touch of Cloth. A police procedural parody, it reminds me of the old ABC show Police Squad or a TV version of Simon Pegg's film Hot Fuzz. It does try too hard at times to be funny, but when it hits (which is often), it hits hard.

My favorite Mystery Science Theater episode - The Screaming Skull (Series 9, Episode 12) - is finally getting a DVD release as part of the "Turkey Day Collection" (Volume XXXI) which will be released on Thanksgiving Day.

Normally I just wait for my local library to get the DVDs and then rip them (picked up Volume XXX yesterday), but if you pre-order from Shout Factory they will ship it three weeks early. Since I always watch my Sci-Fi Channel recording of TSS as part of my annual "Turkey Day Marathon" on Thanksgiving Day, I'm going to ante-up the $65 and order this set so I can have it on hand.

I like Capaldi, but the first two episodes didn't really impress me, storywise,  and I was really scared about "A Robot of Sherwood", but it ended up being generally entertaining.

Usually takes a few episodes for a new Doctor to settle in, truth is though if the audience figures drop so will  Capaldi !

This year for Thanksgiving Day, the Official MST3K Youtube site is streaming six classic episodes of MST3K, complete with brand new introductions by Joel Hodgson starting at 12 noon ET / 9 am PT. Until then, they are looping the classic "Manos: The Hands of Fate".

I'll see what the official stream has to offer, but I tend to "roll my own" set for Turkey Day with my personal favorite episodes off DVD.

Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended by the BBC for a "fracas" with a producer and the remainder of Series 22 has been pulled from the schedule.

The contracts for all three presenters expire next month, though a new three-year deal was being negotiated. An online petition to restore Clarkson is crossing the 750,000 signature mark and with Top Gear bringing in over GBP50 million a year for the BBC in licensing and merchandising fees, there is fear that the trio could go to another channel (Sky or ITV would love to pick them up, I am sure). The BBC also risks significant fines from worldwide broadcast licensors for not showing the final three episodes of Season 22.

The Telegraph is reporting that the BBC will terminate Clarkson's contract tomorrow. They intend to continue to produce Top Gear and are rumored to be trying to woo BBC Radio 2 host and petrol-head Chris Evans to helm the next season, though Evans has publicly denied he wants the position.

Hardly surprising !

Racist verbal abuse and physical assault are a bit too much to put up with regardless of how famous he is !

I feel sorry for Oisin Tymon , he did nothing to deserve the attack and did not retaliate despite such provocation,

he also did not report it and made no attempt to capitalise from the incident, and yet people are saying he should die or be killed !

The only person responsible for Jeremy Clarkson losing his job is Jeremy Clarkson !

he reported himself and he carried out the attack !

A shame for Clarkson, but not very surprising at the end given what he did. It will suck for Top Gear fans to have him gone, but the way things are looking Top Gear itself may very well be a casualty. Most likely another channel will pick up Clarkson--and May and Hammond should they decide not to renew their contracts with the BBC--and create a similar show.

It still has the original's flavour, with plenty of miniature work, and I suspect someone has tried quite hard to ensure the 3D animated characters still move at least a little like the old supermarionation puppets.

BBC Radio 2 host Chris Evans has signed a three-year deal to become the lead presenter and producer of Top Gear (UK). The show will begin production for Series 23 next month.

http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/Chris-Evans-to-lead-new-Top-Gear-line-up-2016-06-16

No word on who the other two new co-hosts will be, though Evans has confirmed one will be female. The BBC had offered James May and Richard Hammond one million GBP each to sign new two-year contracts, but both publicly declined the offer, leading to the signing of Evans.

In related news, the Series 22 Special (containing non-studio footage from the last three un-aired episodes introduced by Richard and James) will air on June 28th on BBC Two.

HUM∀NS

Set in suburban London, the story takes place in a parallel present where the latest must-have gadget for any busy family is a synth – an android robot eerily similar to a human in nearly every respect.

An eight episode joint US-UK remake of the 2012 Swedish show Real Humans. I’ve just marathoned the five televised episodes (episode 6 is this evening on AMC) and I have to say that Plastic Memories would have been so much better if the Swedes had written it. Smile

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are reuniting to create an all-new car show, exclusively for Amazon Prime. The show will be produced by the trio’s long time executive producer Andy Wilman. On working with Amazon, Jeremy Clarkson said “I feel like I've climbed out of a bi-plane and into a spaceship.” The first show will go into production shortly and arrive exclusively on Amazon Prime in 2016.

The initial deal is for three 12-episode series.

Andy Wilman has lifted the bonnet on the former Top Gear team’s landmark deal with Amazon Prime Video, explaining that they will be “left alone” to take the best of their old show and update it for a “new world” audience.

Speaking exclusively to Broadcast, the executive producer said Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are beginning development on the yet-to-be-titled new series after a frantic few months of negotiation since leaving the BBC.

Wilman revealed that he and the presenting team received several offers immediately after the BBC confirmed it would not be renewing Clarkson’s deal in March for punching Top Gear producer Oisin Tymon.

This included “very early chats” with ITV, which were ultimately scuppered by a non-compete clause in their BBC contract that meant they were unable to sign for a terrestrial rival within two years of leaving the corporation.

Despite this, Wilman said the “strongest and most intelligent offer” came from Amazon, which bought into their vision for the show and desire to be trusted to make it on their own terms.

“Everyone we have talked to has said to us: ‘They leave you alone to make your show’. That’s a big one for us - we don’t like interference, we don’t need to be policed,” he explained.

The value of the deal was undisclosed, but it represents Amazon’s biggest single investment in original content to date and Wilman revealed that they have been backed with a “really good budget” to make the programme.

“Money, freedom and a love of quality. Those three things are what was attractive,” he said.

The ex-Top Gear team personally brokered the deal with Amazon UK film and TV strategy director Chris Bird and Conrad Riggs, the US online giant’s head of TV production.

The former echoed Wilman’s sentiments on creative freedom, telling Broadcast: “It would be crazy for us to interfere with a creative process that has been so successful in the past.”

The “new look” Top Gear

Clarkson and co will produce 12 episodes of roughly 60 minutes in length for each of the three series, which they will begin delivering in autumn next year. Wilman said the show will build on the successful Top Gear formula, but there will be “lots of newness”.

There will be “indoor” studio elements, as well as the signature global adventures that Clarkson, Hammond and May have become famous for.

Importantly, Wilman stressed, the programme will be anchored in the UK and the presenting trio are likely to be given “more time to yak” about cars away from the road. The deal also gives the hosts the freedom to pursue non-motoring television projects away from Amazon, keeping the door open for them to remain fixtures on the BBC.

Wilman added: “You can’t reinvent the sideways, Last of the Summer Wine-type relationship they have because that is outside of television, that is theirs. But there will be a new look, new elements, new home. We’ve been so busy doing the bloody deal…that [the development] process now begins in earnest.”

He and Bird hinted that the show could be scheduled on a weekly basis, rather than making the whole series available in one go to binge-watch. Both said Top Gear’s audience is used to the habit of having a fresh episode to watch every seven days and Wilman joked: “We’re a one trick pony, I wouldn’t watch 12 episodes in a row.”

Clarkson and co’s new indie

The show will be produced by a new production company established by Wilman, Clarkson, Hammond and May. Named W Chump & Sons, it is a nod to their northern backgrounds, where Wilman said a lot of companies in the 1960s/70s had “& Sons” in their names. W Chump also includes the first letter of all four of their surnames.

Wilman is beginning to crew up for the show and is on the hunt for staff at all levels of the production process. He is particularly keen to bring in a “shit hot” production manager, joking that they used to “run fucking riot with money” while they were at the BBC.

Amazon will help oversee the distribution of the motoring brand to broadcasters and platforms outside of its existing territories of the US, UK and Germany. Bird also said the show will be used as a tool to help it grow its footprint and launch in new countries.

Merchandising and events are also on the radar, but more thought will be given to the programme’s life away from the screen nearer the time of launch.

Wilman said they would have remained at the BBC had the Clarkson “fracas” not occurred.

“We didn’t plan this and we would have carried on but that’s life, and crikey it’s looking pretty good right now,” he explained.

“We get to carry on working, we get new challenges and Top Gear is in good hands. The viewers get two car shows, there’s nothing wrong with that.”

South Park took on yaoi last night and it was pretty hilarious. An extra bonus - the yaoi artwork was submitted by fans.

In other TV-related news, I was not much of a fan of the first Peter Capaldi Doctor Who series, but this second one has been quite enjoyable.

Beating a dead horse

I've been watching the series and spinoffs and movies since I was a kid, and they've provided me wit a lot of memorable moments, but I really think the Star Trek franchise is played out.

Then again, I thought the same thing about the Bond franchise...

Well I'll be buggered, Friday night is two hours of anime on ABC3...

...and then switch over to SBS2 for another hour or so. I think need to start paying more attention to what's on the idiot box.

In about 12 hours it will be time to kick off my annual MST3K Turkey Day Marathon (I am already picking the episodes) and as they did last year, Shout Factory will be streaming their own TDM on their YouTube channel and other streaming media sources.

But even better, MST3K is coming back! Series creator Joel Hodgson has launched a successful KickStarter campaign to produce between 3 and 12 new episodes. There will be a new cast, with Jonah Ray from The Nerdist taking the role of host and Felicia Day looks to have agreed to be the next member of the Forrester Family - Clayton's daughter Kinga Forrester. On Cloud 9 Rounding out the new cast are comedians Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn as the next voices of Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo.

Probably not to the surprise to anyone who bothered to watch any of Season 23, Chris Evans has resigned as the lead presenter of BBC's Top Gear with the conclusion of the final episode of the season on Sunday.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/statements/top-gear-statement

I expect Chris Harris will be promoted to replace him, though I'd like to see them bring Rory, as well, and go back to the three-man team of the Clarkson/Hammond/May Era.

In other news, the second-longest Top Gear spinoff, the American version, has been cancelled by The History Channel with the end of Season Six last Tuesday. Which is unfortunate as the show has been quite good for the past few seasons. Hopefully the BBC will find a new home for it with another network.

I am literally at least a full year or more behind on my anime (I think I may have shows from 2015 in my Crunchyroll queue), but I am clearing my schedule every week for Re:Creators.

Sota Mizushino is a young high school student and anime fan who dreams of writing his own light novel. While looking to the anime adaptation of the mecha light novel Elemental Symphony of Vogelchevalier for inspiration, the iPad he is watching it on sputters and drags him into the anime's world. After it sputters again, Sota returns to his world, but ends up dragging the anime's character Selesia along with him. They soon discover that seven other characters from different stories and forms of media are being brought together for a battle royale, and must align with their Creators to survive. This leads Selesia and a RPG NPC named Meteora to side with Sota in the hopes of using his knowledge of them to their benefit, and find a way to return to their worlds.

Was not planning to watch it, but ANN's reviewers universally praised the opening episode so I gave it a shot. It is an original anime from Black Lagoon manga creator Rei Hiroe and three episodes in, I'm pretty much hooked.
