Tumbling down the rabbit hole

I stumbled across this forum by chance while looking for inspiration on this fan fiction I was writing (you are free to gag). I was unaware of the popularity of this series. As much I as I enjoy it, I always thought it to be one of the unsung anime/manga that falls under the radar. I am most intrigued by your presence. Now that I've found a possible audience maybe I can get motivated to finish this project.

As for myself there's not much to tell. I thoroughly enjoy Gunslinger Girl as I find it's entire premise to be frightening. The idea that a government would use such a tactic like child soldiers is fascinating to me. While many manga and anime fall into the stereotype of "angsty kid hero saves the world," I find it to be a breath of fresh air to see a series as bold and I dare say controversial as this. The girls are in all technicality no longer human. The government agency is just as underhanded and vicious as their criminal counterparts. I like the vague gray morality their world presents. There's no good or evil at work here. Just everyday people struggling with the human condition, locked in a completely fucked up world of espionage and death. A series like Gunslinger Girl shows what anime can and should be (in my less than humble opinion), using an animated medium to tell a new and compelling story in way that could never have passed before.

I'm a pleasant enough pacifist with a perchance for horror. That is all you really need know for now. I look forward to communicating with you.

GSG is, as you say, still very much an underground series. But it has a fair number of dedicated fans, as evidenced by this forum.

I daresay you'll be a welcome addition to our cadre of fanfic writers, stranger. Make yourself at home.

Also, we won't gag at your work. We're a far more cultured lot than that. On the contrary, we're more likely to admire it and offer constructive criticism.

We shall see. My work ranges from exploitation (I'm trying to edge away from this however) to High Octane Nightmare Fuel. I also use my works to express social commentary at things like politics, religion, and such. Not overtly, part of the reason for my afore mentioned project to use imagery as subtle hints for a story within the story with a thematic message. I'm rarely satisfied with my work however. I always think I can do better.

In short, you'll likely be hearing horror stories or a drama from me.

Sounds like you find GsG fascinating for similar reasons to many of us here, personally I love the moral-greyness of the whole series (among so many other things).
