Hangler / Cyborg switcheroo

Post by Guest on Mon 21 Jan 2008 - 18:33

What would happen if the handler / cyborg pairs got scrambled? What would it look like if the cyborgs were assigned to different handlers from the beggining, and what about if there was some glitch/maltfunction in the conditioning and they switched handlers in the present?

I'd write something, but have no time now.

[This topic is a shoot-off of one of Thanatos' posts in a discussion we were having in the vol 7 topic.]

[edit] I'll pitch one more idea (this one actually more in turnw with the title of the topic then the others.). What if, for some unexplained reason, a(/the) handler(s) got a shot of the drug and were conditioned (reversed roles).

Well here's a question. Would they remember their previous handler? It would be interesting to see how the cyborgs would change if they had different handlers. I think it would be more interesting to take the characters as they are and thrust them into different situation. I mean imagine Triela having to work with Jean. I can totally see Jean doing his "I'm a scary badass' routine, only to have her ruin the mood. While Hilshire would be struggling with Rico just following him blindly.

generally these fictions assume that the handler's were just chosen differently at the start. The logistical and emotional attachment problems with switching in the middle are rather daunting to write.

That would be hilarious.

Jean smacks Triela for not paying attention. Triela just looks him in the eye. "Is that all you got?"

LMAO! and Rico will be wondering if this guy has a spine at all...he's never able to gather enough guts to hit me....

actually, that brought the question, did Hillshire ever hit Triela to discipline her? He just doesn't seem to be the type. Even Triela had to actually try to get punished/yelled at (referring to when she sat on the roof at the firing range. Alfonso commented that maybe she did want to get punished, esp. since she's being hard on herself after being defeated and Hillshire did not punish her/or even see it as her fault at all)

Now, Angelica and Hillshire. That, I want to see! She's too angelic for Marco Wink Something tells be they can be a perfect match, or even Hillshire and Elsa

Hillshire wouldn't hit Triela, it would be pretty far out of character. It would take a very specific situation, one I can think of is if Triela did something incredably foolish and put herself in danger. Since Triela and the promise Hillhire made are such strong factors to make him act as you said you would need to pit those same factors that are against the action, for the action. ... ... Blah.

I think Hillshire would be even more lost with Angelica then with Triela. With Triela he can function in a semi-proffesional partner-like model, but with Angelica that wouldn't be possible. He's be totally lost.

I'm stumped as to how to answer that first question of yours, Probit. But what I know is that the fan porno comics are asswipes, and whoever cooks up that low-brow shit needs to be shot.

Pairing Lauro with Claes would result in disaster... for Lauro. Claes is intelligent and headstrong - she'd probably demolish his caustic self with many a icily witty retort of her own.

Are you sure Hillshire and Elsa would be a good idea? Are you sure it wouldn't end with Hillshire getting shot? He wasn't sure how to act around Triela at times... are you sure his actions wouldn't unintentionally lead to Elsa seeing him as being indifferent to her?

Hillshire would load her up with teddy bears though, which Elsa would undoubtably take as a sign of affection and thus everything would be fairly normal. Plus, Hillshire does have points of letting his caring side show.

I laughed. Don't know why I laughed, but I laughed.

ANYONE other han Lauro will make a good impression on Elsa. Lauro on the other hand would have his brains blown out; unchangable fact.

And if he gets paired with Triela, I can see her blasting him where the sun don't shine. And she'll take pleasure in it too. And perhaps she'll even draw it out if it's that time of the month.

Out of curiosity, if the handlers for the girls were switched around, would it mean that thier rooms would be swapped as well? If so, would they get along well with their new roomate?

My current idea of the situation is like this;

Elsa(Hillshire) - Claes
Triela (Jean) - Henrietta
Rico (Lauro) - Um... Biccie?

I know the intial swap was it Rico and Triela, but somewhere LEsa dropped in so I figured she'd have to fit in there somewhere.

Elsa rooming with Claes might lead to some tension - as noted prior, both girls are headstrong types who can be frigid, impulsive and even vicious on occasion. Also, Elsa's flinty, practical, no-bullshit temperament might also clash with the more artistic and contemplative Claes.

Triela would be a wonderful room-mate for Henrietta - nothing better than having the caring, sisterly veteran to show an impressionable young rookie the works and look out for her. Emotionless Bea could bore sunny, inquisitive Rico to death, but who knows - Rico's cheery personality could draw Bea out of her possibly-stoned shell.

Ya gotta wonder who Bea rooms with in canon.

Horrifying visualisation;
Teddy Bear Desolation on one side of the room. On the other, pieces of priceless art deserving of a place in the Louve that is being vslowly repulsed by an encroaching horde. And of course, Hillshire's handsome mug framed nicely on Elsa's wall... with a dozen other pictures of him she elicited off Henrietta (i.e. threatened her with her SiG for the camera) all over her wall (where other girls have popstars and rockidols to frame, Elsa has Hillshire's face).

In a wold where she can and has a 'loving (if rather innocent) handler', Elsa would probably become an obsessive collector. Assuming they don't ignore each other outright, I can see Elsa and Claes fight like crazy for territory, with Elsa's obsession with her handler requiring more and more space to frame her photos, store her teddybears and any other stuff Hillshire leaves behind. I bet they have a red line right down the middle too.

Unrealistic? Maybe. But the catfight in my imagination is pretty cute.

*Musing* If Hillshire started piling bears onto Elsa, what on earth would she do with them? Would she even name them?

@Nachtsider wrote:Triela would be a wonderful room-mate for Henrietta - nothing better than having the caring, sisterly veteran to show an impressionable young rookie the works and look out for her.
I wonder if their room will have space to hold the stuff their handlers give them... oh wait, Triela's handler is Jean now. Space ain't an issue anymore.

Actually I got this picture of a really sunny Rico, all happy and sunshine and energy, annoying the Biccie until she can't take it no more. Then she snaps, and lets loose a triade at Rico, who just stands there and takes it, pleased that she's finally elisited a reaction from her reclusive room mate.

*Musing* Will Rico still be happy even with Lauro as a handler? I think so, seeing as how she loves her body oh so much, the poor lass. She's probably the only one capable of working with him and not killing him since she'll be happy to be even just standing upright.

On the more serious side I'm not sure even Rico would handle being with Lauro well. Refer back to all the need to be acknowladged/ have communication debate.

...I think I actually wanna take this one on, if that's alright with you (it's a great alternative to the old Elsa switcheroo idea, which I only wrote an outline for). Not sure how far I'll get, but since all my other works are pretty much stagnating in 'all ideas, no execution' land... (and Rico's me favorite character)

By all means, go right ahead! The GSG section doen't have enough of these kinds of fics for my liking. As for 'no execution', we all have our writers block periods (I'm suffreing from a string of them right now), but I'm sure you'll get there.

Eh, I don't suffer from writer's block. I suffer from what I call "procrastination periods." All the ideas are in my head waiting to be poured onto paper. (Yeah, I like writing on paper, big whoop, wanna fight about it?) The problems come from getting around to doing the actual writing. Plus, since I can't write without music, I end up getting distracted by what I'm listening to.

Anywho, I can't wait to read the story when it comes around.

Ah, then aour problems are fundementally diffrent. You see here, I keep deleting my typed paragraphs in favor of ones that I think feels better, only to discover they are not and have to replace them with the old ones or...

Quite simply, I really don't know where to begin. I've re-written the first paragraph more times than I can count (standard opening->newsreport->prose->?). It's bloody frustrating...

Okay, I'm ranting again. But I just want to say that I'd be really happy to pop into the GSG section one day and say 'hey look, LoC wrote something!'.

That's happened to me a few times, but I usually get the idea down and then make it "better" the more I read it. But yeah, getting started is the hardest part. Once I start writing, it gets hard to stop me and I end up going through quite a few cd while tossing ideas around. I've never written an entire chapter in one sitting before though. That's probably why I've only got one chapter of one story up on fanfiction.net

my issue tends to be a complete lack of... flow, I guess. I come up with a general idea, write a basic 'chain of events' outline, write random scenes as they occur to me, and try to cobble it together into a story. Sometimes a random scene turns into a starting point and I work backwards and forwards from it to make a chapter.
...problem is, lately, I've been unable to move past the outline and perhaps one or two scenes...

That's the problem that keeps me from writing. I can think of a lot os scenes and even write them, but they never fit together, and I have no plot building skills what-so-ever. So I end up with a lot of short stories/scenes, or (when I try to write something longer) it's like one of those experimental novels - no continuity/flow at all.

It gets really frustrating.

And if Elsa got 'Sandro...lets, just say that GSG would not be the same.

An overstimulated Elsa....that would take her gun polishing to a whole new level.

Alfonso commented that maybe she did want to get
punished, esp. since she's being hard on herself after being defeated
and Hillshire did not punish her/or even see it as her fault at all)

Careful, Wasyhuu. That's something those idiots behind the Gunslinger Girl H-doujins are definitely going to take out of context...

Ooh. I have a brainstorm. Sankyuu, guys! I knew I could depend on you for ridiculous premises! ^_^

lol Reminds me of that scene from Shoot 'Em Up, when the Secret Service agent comes out of the bathroom after a long while. The protagonist asks him, "What were you doing in there?" and the SS agent says, "I was cleaning my gun." Said gun is this nice shiny Magnum revolver.

Here are some scrambled handler duos that would be interesting to see....

Jose/Angelica
Based on their brief interaction in episode 9 of the first anime, they'd likely go well together.

Jean/Claes
In volume 4 of the manga, they seem to get along with one another fine and would likely keep their relationship a professional one.

Bernardo/Triela
Since they're both wisecracking individuals, it'd be cool to see these two interact with each other.

Lauro/Beatrice
It'd be interesting to see whether or not the seemingly unemotional Beatrice could tolerate Lauro's rudeness and cold-hearted nature.

In regards to switching around roommates regardless of whether or not they switch around handlers, these ones would be interesting.....

Henrietta/Angelica
This would be nice to see. After all, they're both kind and friendly to others so seeing these two become roommates would be cute as they seem to get along quite well.

Triela/Elsa
This might be tough on both girls since Elsa is a private person with a cold/hostile personality while Triela is fairly talkative and would constantly try to break Elsa out of her cold shell. This might lead to tensions at first but I could possibly see Triela eventually get through to Elsa.

Beatrice/Elsa
While these two never even MET in the canon, this would be interesting to see. Given how they both seem to be cold to the outside world, it makes one wonder how they'd deal with having to bunk with each other.

Forgive me everyone!

I know I may be opening a crate of worms here; but...

what about OC's?

Who would you see as an interesting handler/cyborg dynamic with the OC's of others?

Well, with MY fanon characters, here are some interesting handler/Cyborg duos.....

Jean/Clarissa- Both hate the Pandanians and want to wipe them out plus Clair could tolerate Jean's cold heartedness while gladly beating the crap out of RF sympathizers like Jean had Rico do in Volume 4 of the manga.

Actually, Clarissa could work with just about any one of the canon handlers provided that she got ample opportunity to kill terrorists and criminals plus she's disciplined enough to not anger ones such as Lauro or Jean.

Jack (Clarissa's handler)/Claes- Both are quite deep thinkers who are calm and reserved so they'd go well together.

My other cyborg Anastasia would go well with a handler who was caring but not so well with someone like Jean or Lauro.

Anastasia's handler Brandon would just go and spoil any one of the other girls if a switch was pulled.

@LoC978 wrote:generally these fictions assume that the handler's were just chosen differently at the start. The logistical and emotional attachment problems with switching in the middle are rather daunting to write.

I'm starting to try and take a stab at Claes, having started to seriously recover her memories, be formally paired with Michele (and Kara) for a period of time (not as a long-term thing - for that I am thinking Marco based on discussions and fan fics). I have an "out" in that Claes would remember her affection for Raballo, but she wouldn't have that for Michele. But Kara, on the other hand, is at that stage where she considers Michele "hers" so the "inter-cyborg relationships" could get tricky.

Of the canon handlers, Kara likely would have responded best with Raballo and Marco. She'd find Jean far too cold and Giuseppe far too warm. Hillshire would probably be okay and Alessandro might very well be something spoken as legend to later generations. Wink

Not really tight with the other OC handlers to say how Kara would pair with them. Sorry, Elfen, but she'd not work with Fernando at all. He's too wedded to his past for her tastes, since she lives for the moment.

This would be difficult with Rachel as her being only capable of listening to her hander- Fernando and not giving a rat's ass about any other handler or agency orders. That screws up the Type 2 programming that the med techs put into her.

Francesca is more of an enigma in that she is currently a type 2 rebuild construct but everyone forgets that she was a type 0/1 build with strong programming links to her handler only. Since linking with Fernando, she can be worse than Henrietta in terms to a relationship with her handler. Furthermore, though the Med Techs believe that they put in a Type 2 conditioning into her, it did not hold, and Fernando was able to break it- forcing her into a type 0/1 conditioning. Though it was unintensional, this means a stronger loyalty from her to him and a strong emotional attachment to 'her man', even more so since she has grown up during the years she was missing, and is aware of a man and woman's needs.

Currently, Francesca is under Fernando's orders to follow, protect and follow Ferro's until Claes returns from medical detox program that was just implimented. If you kept up with S'sR chapters, you would know what I mean. Rachel is currently with Francesca, thus allowing Fernando to run rampid through out Rome.

I just feel sorry for any guy out there who thinks he can give a Type 2 order to Francesca to go to bed with him, as she would to make him feel like he accomplished something, then rip his groin area off and walk away to wash her hands...
