Wow thanks! I've been drawing in my sketchbook almost exclusively for the last few weeks, so I wonder if all that practice is working.

Nice work there! To echo the others, you did do a good job with the facial expressions, which is always a difficult thing to get right (or so I've heard. I'm not much of an artist). Glad to see a new page for the comic, and a start into the adventure of Elly and Pete.

Actually, I like this. It's simple, but still sets a mood. Ellie looks a little troubled. Maybe she's going through a moment of introspection, or maybe her bullet wound is aching.

Some canons lend themselves to happy characters.  Others build on sad ones.  GSG is the latter, so this looks achingly beautiful.

A bit of musing to go with this wonderful picture:

"I feel blue now, but what for?
Is it that I am hurt inside?
Do I miss someone?
Could I need time alone?
Am I empty somewhere?

Could it be that I am hurt outside?
My bruises are black,
My blood runs red,
The day pours grey,
But my heart feels blue.

I can only look forward to the future,
Where the next day could be any color.
For as God has granted me my life,
I shall see a tomorrow, blue anew,
and to thus, I shall wait, until my time has come."
-Jim Eligino

I do think your work on this picture is wonderful, though. If anything, it's better than what I can create as art. Razz

Jimmy, you are a warrior poet! Thanks for writing that. believe it or not, this is the second time someone has written a poem about something I drew! It's a special feeling.

Alf; Thanks for the compliments! This is another case of 'the less I try the better it looks'. I wish college worked that way lol. I might do little quick portraits in this style for some other characters in the future. (not sad and depressing per se, but with a simple colour palette)

Ill keep you posted I guess.  Good

Nice job on the new comic! Definitely like the annoyed expression Elly gives upon being hugged by Pete. Interesting to see Pete be so cheerful when compared to the other times we've seen him, so I do have to echo the sentiment others have made. I initially thought this was part of a flashback as an explanation to his behavior, but remembered the three pages of Ch.1 occur 21 days after the prologue. So... I wonder what's made him that way.

Mood swings? Bipolar perhaps? Maybe he was just kidding around to throw them off balance and see how they react. Perhaps Pete being conscious of his previously morose behavior around his partner, attempted to change that with less than successful results?

Re: Carried Away with Elly & Pete

Post by TeaTimeNinja on Mon 23 Feb 2015 - 18:50

Another writing thing. I still don't want to make a literature thread because I don't write often.

--------------

After an unsuccessful trip into town on a cold February day, Pete and Elly rode back to the SWA campus. It was too cold to be on a motorcycle, but Pete found taking the car to be boring. This was an awful idea, but when you have a new toy, it’s hard to put it down.

“Can you slow down a bit?” Pete heard Ellys voice through his Bluetooth helmet. He glanced down at his cockpit. Surly 60 kilometers per hour wasn't too fast, it was only the speed limit after all.

“What’s wrong?” Pete asked. He knew of a few reasons, but he had to act ignorant.

“It’s absolutely freezing back here. Why didn't we just take the car again?” Elly shifted uncomfortably on the seat, “The engineers at Ducati must have butts of steel.”

“We’re almost there. Next time we can take the car.”

“Here’s to hoping.” She said as she raised an imaginary glass in her right hand.

They arrived at the main security gate and entered into the compound. The short road leading to the cluster of buildings had some nasty potholes, all of which were hit directly, and were followed by snarky remarks about ‘poor aim’. Pete switched his Bluetooth off to avoid verbal assault. Elly noticed this and started to flip up his visor. Pete nudged her away as he hit the final pothole.

“I’ll drop you off here.” Pete said with a disappointed tone. “Be ready tomorrow morning, we can’t return empty-handed next time.

“Okay.” Elly said as she pulled her Shoei helmet off. She climbed off the poorly designed passenger seat and stepped off the poorly designed foot pegs. “See you tomorrow.”

Pete turned his bike to sport mode and zoomed off towards his apartment. He glanced toward the sky and looked disapprovingly at the rain clouds he was heading into. It seemed Lady Luck wasn't on his side.

“Joy.” He mumbled sarcastically in his helmet, switching his bike to wet track mode.

A few minutes and a few red lights later, Pete arrived at the parking garage dripping wet and shivering. He stalled his bike and then nearly dropped it on the concrete floor, arriving in style. He trudged up the stairs to his apartment door while he unhooked the key chain from his belt loop. Before he could jump in the shower, he noticed that his phone was vibrating; a text and two missed calls.

“I forgot I was still wearing your backpack when you dropped me off. Don’t you need it?” The text read. Pete just stared blankly ahead, cursing himself.

Heh. The gods never smile on these two, do they? I wonder, though, how much of their own bad luck they make. Elly clearly doesn't like being a passenger on Pete's bike, but I get the feeling she'd be much more comfortable with the handlebars in her hands.

Nice little post, Tea. You should write more often. If you don't want to make a separate thread, maybe your comic and your fic should follow the same plot.

Nice work, and a bit more familiar for what I know of Pete and Elly. Indeed, hitting all those potholes is pretty mean--after all, pure probability would mean he would have to miss at least one--so he deserved to experience his own misfortune. Wink

Very cool.   I can see how hard you're working on perspective and shading and texture. But  what really got me  about  the  picture was the deep  slump of Pete's shoulders, and the concern in Ellie's face and posture.

Awesome drawing, man! Very Happy It's definitely clear that you put a lot of work into the detail of the characters and the background as well as the coloring and shading. The little subtleties about Elly's worried expression and the depth of Pete's discomfort in his slumping posture really make this picture. Another plus in the details department is the lighting, with the soft glow of the interior lamps, the darkness of the exterior punctuated by various colors of lights of the surrounding cityscape. It all adds to the amazing atmosphere you've produced.

Nice mate. Great pose work, and I like the more defined shading you've used on this one. Looks good.

He's a lumberjack and he's okay, he sleeps all night and he works all day...

Nice mate. I take it Elly, on the other hand, would prefer not to be there.

Yeah, Elly looks just thrilled to be there. At least she has a marshmallow to roast. Let's just hope Pete doesn't decide to take the lumberjack song to heart. Razz

Anyway, great pic!

Wow, luv your art. Poor Pete, looks sad in the picture where he is face down on the table, (long day?) plus Elly looks as adorable as ever!
Second picture, is to me more proof of Elly's inimitable cuteness powerr!  Good Third picture is excellent! Pete looks cool/funny (not many Handlers can manage coolness with a pot on their noggin' {I wonder if it's 'non-stick'?} whilst Elly even miffed has lost none of her Cute Appeal! head bang
