Don't know if it's been discussed elsewhere before, but it occurs to me that, depending on how various tents/shelters fare and how much people/gear need to dry out as a result, post-storm may be a good opportunity for a hearty communal fire and story time?

Fernando would be more descriptive in the words he chooses, with a lot more energy from anger, adrenaline and volume.

Speaking of anger and volume, I presume we're going to see an angry Frederic in at least one post. And boy, you are not going to like the guy angry.

Also, if you wish to know what I think of the latest post, this is what I think of it.

Just read PSVT's latest post, and felt compelled to back-read to the previous James/Rachelle segment. The contrast between that fratello relationship and the depiction of Giancarlo with his girls (and Doc and Kristal's, as well) in the intervening posts provides a tense and shocking contrast. Well done, sir.

Re: The All-SWA-Teambuilding-Camping-Trip...

Post by PSVT on Thu 28 May 2015 - 23:58

Here is the link to the scavenger hunt.

A reminder of my planned scavenger hunt collaboration. I'll set up a pad within the next week or so, depending on where everyone is in the overall RP. When that occurs, this post will be edited to include the link. But first, here is some information on what's going on.

I plan for James Bernard and his cyborg Rachelle to lead the group along a short hike into the forest before revealing that he has a scavenger hunt set up for them. Here, the participants are tasked with finding several special objects and bring them back to the staging point. It occurs over a rather wide area of forest and mountains several kilometers away from the campsite. The weather should still be rather terrible during the event, with cold temperatures and high winds, so that should add to the fun.

The scavenger hunt will be collaborative, with everyone working together to find the items listed. Indeed, teamwork will be vital, given that some of the items are rather esoteric and difficult to either locate or collect. A penalty for failing to retrieve a select number of items from the list will be administered by James. Evil

Below is the list of items:

- Live adult green woodpecker
- Green woodpecker egg
- A wing and tail feather from an eagle owl
- Live alpine marmot
- Two live male and two live female pool frogs
- Live fish of any species, in water
- Live butterfly or moth of any species
- One ibex horn
- One alpenrose plant complete in soil
- Three spruce saplings in soil
- One leaf sample from ten different alpine flora
- Twenty specially etched smooth stones as distributed by Rachelle

-----------

I do intend to have some fun with this collaboration. James is a bit of a jerk, so it would only be natural if there was some sort of resistance to or retaliation for his antics, right? Don't think for a second that it will be completely dull and serious business. My goal is to see how other characters react to the hard-ass James and the heavily conditioned Rachelle. Speaking of Rachelle, wouldn't it be interesting to see how she would be if she weren't so doped up on conditioning medication? Wink

Feel free to let me know if you want to join in on this. Those already in so far:

CI: Tea
Vett: Edward and Rebecca
Thescarredman: Kristal
PolosElite23: Cassie
boomer_gonz: Crystal [possibly later on]

-------------

Lastly, as another gentle reminder, the group campfire and ghost story approaches.

Thank you very much! Very Happy

That contrast very much is deliberate, since Giancarlo Rossi and James Bernard are essentially foils of one another. Giancarlo genuinely loves Valentina and Eleonora and treats them as his own daughters, which fosters similar feelings of love in return (despite what Eleonora might say about that Wink). Conversely, Rachelle is nothing more than a tool for his personal use as far as James is concerned. In the absence of high levels of conditioning, Rachelle feels outright contempt for him, and deservedly so. I'm interested, and I hope others are as well, to see how these relationships further develop in the future, not just in terms of the RP, but in actual full-fledged stories.

Added to the Ghost story.

I split my last post for the sake of continuity, putting the after-storm section in after the Hunt for Odile. Had no idea there was so much creativity being generated by a little hailstorm. MP, Kisk, Boomer, great job. If you have more 'storm' stuff to post, I'll remove & repost my last one again.

I'll be tossing one up soon, but it deals with the hail lifting and a bit before. So don't worry 'bout it.

On the Ghost Story, I added a bit more to the missing Cassie sub-arc, as well as a contribution from James slightly before then. Also, I recommend putting in a short section at the top, prior to the actual story telling (particularly so that James could invite the others to his scavenger hunt sweat ).

It's getting dark at the campsite ... and after the storm, a bit chilly too. Is anyone still working on a post between the storm and Story Night? If not, I'll put in a short interim piece and put up the first part of the campfire arc, ending it at the beginning of the 'ghost story.'

Oh, and are any of the girls in need of warm clothing? Vee packed extra, as well as, ahem, female necessities, if anyone has the courage to touch that subject...

I don't have anything planned for either of my fratelli until the Ghost Story.

Given what Rachelle had endured, she certainly needs it. Whether James would allow that is a completely different thing.

For notification: probably just a post on here with a bit of a rundown of what's planned to refresh peoples' memories and see who's interested and get a bit of discussion going. As to writing, I know a few people have been having success with Titanpad. Once you've some idea of who's going to be involved and how, maybe thrash out an opening post there? Personal opinion, I wouldn't try to do the whole thing in one hit, but something to get it rolling and see where people take it. I think the current night is down for ghost stories, so that gives tomorrow or possibly the day after as well for Tea to round up willing conspirators, and figure out how to handle the possibly not so willing.

As promised, I've today posted an introductory piece for the campfire segment - but it seems my compadres have run ahead with the story. So, in interest of keeping discontinuities to a minimum, I've added it to my May 31 post.

Fine by me brudda.

It'll give Elfen, MP5, CI, and TeaNinja time to bring their char's to the fire proper.

If they aren't already there that is.

Boomer knows my characters well enough to write'm up as needed while I'm gone.

I'll give it another day or so to see if anyone wants to add something between the very beginning of the 'ghost story' arc and the start of the story proper, and then we'll roll, ending the first post at Doc's first mention of the old war.

New additions to campsite active:

-Improvised Gravity shower by lakeshore + "Heat hut".

-Single latrine improved to gender-separated latrines w/toilet seats fashioned out of cut-open half-drums, seat side cut into crescent-moon shaped apertures sanded down with a file from multi-tool carried by Charlie.

Figuring out how to get my characters to the campfire and re-convene with the members of their expedition.

First, the requisite link in case anyone's forgotten it.

Second, I added a bit with James and Rachelle there. Beyond that, I have nothing more to add. I'm very much okay with just having the Rossi fratello magically appear at the campfire out of thin air. sweat

On the missing Cassie arc that follows Doc's tale, Polos's Donald plans on assembling a group to search for the little cyborg. Feel free to jump in if you want.

Lastly, I'm setting up the pad and a tiny initial entry for the Scavenger Hunt now, and I should be ready in the next day or two. The link will be posted here and in the info thread. EDIT: Here is the link to the scavenger hunt.

Sorry for dropping completely off the grid for two months (and it was clearly a busy two months: I've had over 350 notifications to read through).

Now that the exams are dealt with, I'm back. To that end:

Am I right in thinking that we're now evening day 2, with the ghost story imminent and the scavenger hunt is on the cards for day 3?

Depending upon what TSM's got planned in terms of posting schedules, I'll either have them turn-up part way through the ghost story or after it finishes.

@Alfisti/Polo

Can I borrow either Salles, Florentino or Donald (or whichever of Polo's Fratelli is with the sat-phone) to pass on an urgent recall message to give my characters a reason to disappear for a while?

It is indeed the evening of the second day, with activities planned as you noted.

Regarding the recall, I'd say that's be a Salles thing to handle. He would likely be the point of contact for any inbound messages from the SWA.

That said, it's something I'd prefer not to make a habit of, and if you could run the post in question by us first if you're going to use him that would be good.

For the record, the other sat-phone equipped people are Alpha (Boomer) and James (PSVT), but those are for outbound emergency calls.

Having stopped and thought about it a little more, we're still on the evening of day two, so there's nothing stopping them having simply having got up really early and having been out all day, which would avoid the necessity of using Salles.

Doesn't change much, aside from no-longer needing to edit my last post.

Just posted the last bit of Doc's narrative. Since the rest of the material largely belongs to other authors, I'll let them do the posting, at least until the hunt for Cassie is well begun.

Great work, guys. Collabs are a lot more fun when everybody's communicating, sharing, and working together. Can't wait to see what we collectively come up with next.

So, as a question: where is everyone at with this? I know there was talk of a lost cyborg after the story... was that still going ahead? If so, what's the current situation? If not, it might be time to start wrapping up this day and getting ready for the next.

I'd ask again that, if you have anything going elsewhere that the group can get involved in, to communicate your intentions on this thread. If nothing else it gives those not directly, or originally planning to be, involved in a group event the chance to respond if they see an interesting opening. While the initial pitch may not appeal to someone, something that happens during planning or implementation just might spark ideas. Working on the pad is all very well, but we're not all checking that, particularly if we're not specifically attached to one of the "RPs within an RP" (RP-ception), nor are we notified when things change on it.

On a final note, as a sort of interim thought: keep in mind when writing that you're not just writing for your own characters, but also to provide stimulus for those others involved in the RP. In that vein, think about organising thing such that others may be able to pick up and run with or bounce off (though, of course, if you're going to directly involve another character, tee it up with their creator first) an action or interpretation thereof. Conversely, when you're reading through others' posts, have a think about what can be used.
