Strange (and creepy) settings for GSG stories

Post by Odon on Wed 17 Feb 2016 - 19:50

Let's start with monsters, just the thing to terrify an oft-hallucinating child with repressed traumatic memories…

Here's the Park of the Monsters, notably the ogre that eats children, as see here.

The Monster House in Roma…

The obligatory abandoned psychiatric hospital where unspeakable acts took place (though they don't have to go outside the Agency compound for that).
http://www.atlasobscura.com/places/ospedale-psichiatrico-di-volterra

Abandoned fun parks have always been a good place for shootouts, and this one isn't far from Milan either.

The Festival of Serpents in the town of Cocullo…

The Carnival of Venice

Capuchin Crypt, Rome

Even Italy has ghost towns

The Staglieno cemetery at Genoa.

And closer to Milan is the Cimitero Monumentale.

And the avant-garde (and completely unoccupied) San Cataldo Cemetery

Sacrario Militare del Monte Grappa

If you're in a country with Mafia bosses who use escape tunnels and underground bunkers like some James Bond supervillain…

Forget about the girls, I'm the one going to be having nightmares...

I've said it before, Odon, you're not a well man.

(Brilliant tho.)

I've had a story setting running through my head for a while that has the potential for uber-creepiness, I think: an oil refinery after dark, full of confusing shadows and echoes from everywhere, like a hall of mirrors...

Mario Bossi would make a better handler than Marco Toni. Come to think of it, so would Christiano.

Elizaveta didn't jump - she was pushed.

Sofia was pregnant. It would have been a boy.

Hmmm... food for thought, or accounts of dread and high tech.
I like thee combination.
From the darken misty veil of nightmarish tales, steps the clear light of technological might.
Modern confrontations between cutting edge keepers of the law and proponents of eternal disorder battle, perhaps aware of the not so silent spectral audience paying witness to the struggle, a midst the supposedly vacant structures.
Combatants sense the living shadows who watch, tempted to play a role and sway the outcome like a pendulum, at the least expected, yet pivotal moment in time. The following morning revealing who will return triumphant among the living, or be cast to join the phantom population of that forgotten locale.
Hmmm, maybe. Puzzled Hmm...

rusty_spring and I once kicked around the idea of Laine and Kara having to visit Poveglia, considered as Italy's "most haunted island".

I'm suddenly imagining a GsG version of 'Scooby-doo': Claes is the obvious Thelma, and Petra as Daphne, but who would get the other roles?

You know...this might give me some thoughts on a possible GSGxSCP crossover

Thanks ScarredMan and Boomer_Gonz. It seems like a backdrop like this is perty good for the cyborgs and their brother's fight against the terrorists. If I wasn't so busy juggling too many things right now, I'd give it a go, trying out a quick narration for my partners, Gunther and Ayden.
