I attended my last anime convention, before i encountered Gunslinger Girl. so i didn't bother to look for anyone dressed as a school girl with a rifle in her hand

That's a cool cosplay of Henrietta! I wouldn't mind tryiing a GSG cosplay, but the only one I could probably pull off would be Claes (maybe Angelica).

As for conventions, the only one I've been going to is Anime Expo. This year will be my 9th time going.

The last few years I started doing some cosplaying because it looked like fun (and it really is!). I did 5th Division Lt. Hinamori Momo from Bleach and Misao Makimachi from Rurounin Kenshin. Not really cosplay, but since it's during the summer I wore my yukata once. I'm still debating on making a new outfit for this year. If not, I'll probably do Misao again.

Just curious Triela, which convention(s) do you attend?

The only convention I've gone to is AnimeNext. My sister went to Otacon (sp??) for 2 years. I don't think she's going this year, but I really wanna go.

Seen too much in Akihabara. And no, I am not cosplaying or wish to see anymore in here (Tokyo). I would love to see a decent Italian girl cosplay as Henrietta though :p

The girls as maids were OK. Some were real eye catchers that would reward you with a slap if you have a girlfriend. Some were rude...but turn nice in the end (Tsundere Cafes :p). Maid cafe is something else though. There's a maid cafe depicting the maids from the manga Emma. I'd love to wait when Yoshio-san ask us out again for a walk in Akihabara--the Cafe (the girls as maids, I mean) is a priceless experienece XD

Other than that, no more.

...I've seen too much crossdressing that it turns scary x_x

Man-Faye? Male Tifa? MALE HENRIETTA!? MALE TRIELA!? X_X
hoooly Lord! Anything worse? Glad I haven't seen a male Kazumi...oh wait, I think I've seen one...nevermind.

Cosplay as Henrietta

Cut the hair a little shorter--up to the shoulders and it'll look great Very Happy.

...and remove the pink on the muzzle of the P90. That just ruins the image of the gun...

been thinkin' bout doin' the male Rico thing.. problem is, it'd hafta be at a firing range, not a convention. The weapons are real.
and the only things she wears that aren't gender-ambiguous are the maid outfit and the opera dress... I think I'd just go with pants, shirt, overcoat, and a wild blonde wig with long-ass sideburns.

That was last year' convention. I said looking back I wish I asked for my hair to be cut shorter.

As for the P-90 I couldn't take the orange off the tip. They wouldn't let me into the convention if it was all black (It's just an extra safety rule. Besides I don't mind. It's not a real P-90 so I like it.) ^_^

I have a desire to dress up as Triela... white polo under a coat

I think someone can pull of a Rico look, just makesure he has a smooth complexion.

on the next convention though, id probably dress in a suit, then make my little sis go as Henrietta dancin\\'
or get my Girlfriend to dress as Triela instead :yaay:

In a good way?

I think of all the Gunslinger Girls, Rico would be the best for a guy to pull off. Triela possibly, but you'd need a good wig.

As much as a guy might like certain characters....they really should not pose in cute dresses or slutty outfits. I'm already traumatized by man-Faye, male Sailor Mars, and male Card Captor Sakura. Recently it was a male Ayu from Kanon :gouges eyes out:

Dont dress the part if you dont look the part, I agree to that.
then again, who are we to steal or crash down on someone else's pleasure?

I know an armerican girl who is just mad about Integral of Hellsing. granted, she is a bit over weight. but heck, she enjoys it. so let her.

You don't see the point.

Yes, it ruins the fun, but it entirely ruins the image of the character!! Dressing the right way, and looking similar means the cosplayer respects the original character. And that's way I--no offense--entirely LOATH cross dressers!!

Last Comiket the image of the goddess Triela was ruined by this...guy T_T

after that's done, and i am somewhere alone i just delete it out of the memory

In a way, you're backstabbing that cosplayer and hurting his/her feeling without he/she knowing it and also saying 'you're ugly' silently to him/her. That's the same as disrespecting the cosplayer -_-;

Either take it because you like it, or you leave it at all. Hey, Yoshio-san cross dressed as Haruhi once and I say 'hi', twitch, and check another stall. Wierd... -_-

Quoted for truth.

The last time I went to a cosplay meet, I saw this girl dressed as Yuna from Final Fantasy - she was no taller than me (about five-foot-three or so), but couldn't have weighed any less than 160 pounds. I was struggling so hard to keep a straight face - land sakes, she resembled a boiled egg. I've never been able to look at Yuna the same way again...

Whether it be America, Tokyo, Netherlands, or anywhere else in the world....you can't escape the horror known as crossdressing gone wrong. I try hard to block out the memories of what i've seen, but dammit...some just won't go away! bang head

@Nachtsider wrote:If you ask me, people should not try to cosplay if they don't look the part.
So very true. I feel bad for the really fat people that want to cosplay because as much as I appreciate their efforts, it really does diminsh and shatter your image of the character. I know we can't all be as skinny and perfect as how some characters are (though some can pull it off), but if you are at least somewhat close to how they look then sure go for it (I mean, that's the reason why I gave it a shot ^_^; ). The ones that are way off i'll at least take a glance if I recognize the character, but I won't bother to ask for pics. Of course if it's a horrid crossdresser, it's best if I never took a look at all. :face:

So very true! Well, its just how people would like to humiliate themselves for the joy of others :p

The rest is up to us whether we could ignore and respect their effort, or pretend to like it then laugh behind their back--which is just disrespecting.

Either that, leave it. They've tried what they can, and that effort to at least LOOK like the character deserves an 'A'--to the least.

LOL....wrong girl. You're referring to Triela. I'd have a better attempt at doing Claes (getting tempting with all this talk). It's best she leave the pink tip on at the convention since we wouldn't want her to be kicked out and miss all the fun. Maybe if she does dress up again, she can take the pink tip off the gun at home for a pic.

No reason to be scared. That's cool you cosplayed as Kyouya from Ouran High. He's my favorite guy in the Host Club!

It's fine for girls to crossplay as guys because some guys in anime are 'pretty boys' so it's easy for girls to pull it off. As for the other way around.... :image of Man-Faye appears: Aaaahhhh bang head

If I EVER cosplay as Hillshire, Marco, or Giuseppe, I will draw my gun and nail the guy to the wall with a repetitive hit from my pistol...

Oh phew....there was a Man Lulu(FFX) at the anime convention where I staff at. Everyone thought he was a she and well he fooled everyone because he did look like her.

-is reminded that her gay friend dressed up in a dress and wasn't that bad looking in it either-

Bottom line - I approve of everyone who cosplay or crossplay, as long as they do it right and don't end up prize eyesores.

I know Man-Faye over here (if he's different from the one over there [gawd the horror of having more than one!]) was arrested for indecent exposure and in the past was banned from some conventions. Recently he's been allowed back because he 'covered' himself up more. LOL

Wow a Man-Lulu that fooled everyone...I'm impressed. I'm sure there were probably some guys dressed as girls that I didn't even notice...which is good!

The guy must have looked grotesque, but damn, wouldn't I have loved to see the arrest unfold!

Well, at least there's no male cross dressers looking for a sex-change after a convention x_x

you know it could be worst... on my last anime convention my classmate dressed-up as Yuna. the next day my friend comes to me and says "Hey West who was the cute girl you were with in the anime convention?" and i was like "0_0 Dude that 'cute girl' was a guy!!" we never spoke of the event again...

LOL indeed.

Yup. I'm seriously it wasn't until Man Lulu spoked that we believed his girlfriend. I'm seriously still amazed that he would dress up as Lulu for her. O O;

Which reminds me we ran into him later out of cosplay and he looked well out of cosplay. XD

That takes dedication. Or having a lot of balls (no pun intended LOL)

So for you guys out there, if your girlfriend asks you to crossplay in drag would you do it? Laughing

My wife would never make me do anything like that. I can't think of any reason why someone would ask their significant other to do so.
