Cyborg Busters, Humans with attitude
Alll this talk about Pino's got me wondering... what kind of normal human does it take to dismember a mechinical body? Pino was the first human being that the cyborgs encounted who could best them in single combat, I'm sure he won't be the last.
Perhaps we should come up with a list of 'regular humans' who can eat cyborgs for breakfast?
Note; If we start dragging characters from other anime/manga/tv shows/whatever in here, I'm sure that things will get out of hand eventually. Someone will need to set some ground rules or things will start to look ridiculous. Someone like Chuck Norris would probably be fine, but Alucard from Helling is just overkill, and he ain't even human. Problem is, I'll be dammned if I can figure out what they are.

Well, Major Salles comes to mind. He did a hell of a number on Triela in training.

Kirika Yuumura and Chloe, I feel, could give the cyborgs one hell of a run for their money.

Yeah. He traied Triela and made her good enougth to make sure that 'little bunny won't lose to any more pinocchios'. That automatically makes him tough guy.

Yeah, Kirika and Chole are of a level that they can probably beat a first generation cyborg.
Danjo3 wrote:I guess Biff pretty much goes without saying...
This is what I meant by ridiculousness!
Biff... he ain't human I'm telling ya! Nobody as tough or as strong as that guy can possibly be human! Look at him! I bet if there were giant robots in the GSG verse, she could destroy an entire batallion of them with his bare hands and still have time to pump weights! He ain't a mortal!
...
Yeah, Biff will work, but what a mess. sening him against a cyborg is akin to using a chainsaw to slice butter. Isn't his talents better used elsewhere? Like stopping the moon from falling?
While we're on the topic of cyborg busters how about I nominate the entire cast of Black Lagoon (yes, even Rock) as people cabable of taking on cyborgs? And then there's Gauron's sexy twin killers from FMP: TSR...

Actually, those twins were guys in the original novel. Which may lead to some fan girls being disappointed to learn that the twincest element was new for the anime adaptation. (Actually one of the things I disliked about TSR -it made me feel like I was being pandered to big time. But I guess this thread isn't really the place for me to do a big rant against TSR.)
Sousuke and Mao are pretty tough too. And Gauron and Kalin are both tough to kill. (Aren't there people who refer to Gauron as a cockroach?)
Black Lagoon has some hard core badasses, but I don't think the entire cast necessarily qualifies. Rock... well, he's good at connecting with people, but if Rico got told to cap him one, I think he'd be in trouble. He's not much of a fighter.
Motoko from Ghost in the Shell could probably compete. She's admitedely not exactly a normal human, but neither are the girls...

Kino is probably one of the better gunslingers out there. She'd fit the bill. But Kino's not much older than most of the girls isn't she?
Piero wrote:Actually, those twins were guys in the original novel.
Yeah, heard about that. Supposedly, they're goth lilos in the manga. WTF... Never read that volume in english though (jumped straight into Continuing On My Own).
Piero wrote:Sousuke and Mao are pretty tough too. And Gauron and Kalin are both tough to kill. (Aren't there people who refer to Gauron as a cockroach?)
What about Weber? He's a 'pretty good' shot.
Gauron IS a crockroach. How many times do you have to kill this S.O.B? Blow him up twice and he still comes back. Doesn't die when his self destruct is activated. Seriously, when Sousuke finally did him in, I was in disbelef that a nine milimeter could do what the Lamda Driver could not.
Here's a thought. What if Triela and Gauron fought each other? Triela more or less has the 'I'll be back' factor and Gauron's virtually unkillable.
Piero wrote:Black Lagoon has some hard core badasses, but I don't think the entire cast necessarily qualifies. Rock... well, he's good at connecting with people, but if Rico got told to cap him one, I think he'd be in trouble. He's not much of a fighter.
True. But it'll be funny is the 'ordinary unremarkable japanese salaryman' showed what he was capable off. In fact if he employs the 'ordinary japanese person rule'... know what? Just wait a while and you'll see what I mean.
Piero wrote:Motoko from Ghost in the Shell could probably compete. She's admitedely not exactly a normal human, but neither are the girls...
Funny you should mention her. I was thinking that the stuff in GSG might eventually develop into the artifical stuff seen in GITS.
Re: Cyborg Busters, Humans with attitude
Weber is a pretty good shot, but not exactly the best CQB fighter. If you gave him a chance to snipe and were able to get him over any reluctance about shooting, he could do well. Otherwise...
Should we add Corporal Yan and Lieutenant Clouzot/Grouseaux/Whatever the Hell his name is supposed to be to the list?
Gauron, unlike Pino, wouldn't hesitate to deliver a killing blow on Triela. But if he underestimated her resilience as a cyborg...
Personally, I think Revy versus Triela could be a hell of a fight. I'd thought a fanfic where some SWA people get sent overseas to a certain city (guess which one) to deal with one of Padania's Arms Suppliers could be interesting. Problem is, if you get Black Lagoon and GSG characters going head to head, how do you choose which ones to kill off if you're a fan of both shows?

Re: Cyborg Busters, Humans with attitude
Solid Snake, 007, Batman, John MacClaine, SG-1 [minus Dr. Jackson], Delta Force, Spike Spegal [on a good day], and I'm out..
Noteable mentions: Link [he's an elf so not quite human], John 117 [A cyborg from the distant future...], Main Character from Marathon [See John 117], Iron man, and Samuas [only with their suits...]
I know there is power in the 'ordinary' rule. At the same time though there is a limit to it. Rico wins. The cast of Full Metal panic is good, but not that good. They are mostly pilots by trade. This involves some soldiering, but I don't think they could handle the girls. With perhaps the exception of 'I will never die' Gauran. Mao is almost killed by a Twin. Sosouke might fair a bit better, but in the end he's a pilot.

Cyborg Busters?
Lets see...
-Lucy from Elfen Lied could pwn them in seconds. Then even Haruhi Suzumiya could easily control them without she knowing or them knowing.
Others that I could think of would be:
-Solid Snake (MGS; silently stalk them, slit their throat, interrogate, etc.)
-Haji (Blood+; a coffin to stop guns, and a sword to cut through both guns and girls)
-Saya (Blood+; in the form of a normal girl, she's dead. BUT in the form of a vampire slayer, now that's something to consider)
-Makoto (School Days; mentally crush them one by one and turn them against each other)
-Adam/Jamie (Mythbusters; testing cyborg myths--include testing their durability via the Chicken Gun)
-Sam Fisher (Splinter Cell series; need explanation? Darkness is your friend)
-Kira (Death Note; not a chance...oh wait...he can't use the death note. But he still have the brain!)
...anyone else? There's lots of character who could beat them. Gunslinger Girl is portrayed as realistic as possible, so making them compete with character with powers is entirely pointless)

I have an idea as to what 'Nice Boat' is, Sasahara (footage aired in place of a gruesome finale to an anime and all that), but I'm pretty much in the dark regarding the background to said gruesome finale.

There is always Wikipedia, but I could help a little on this with a short summary. Story goes, Makoto likes Girl A. Girl B finds out and decided to help Makoto get with Girl A. Makoto goes out with Girl A, but then realizes he likes Girl B because Girl B starts making moves on him. He then sleeps with Girl B before breaking off from Girl A. Now Girl B wants Makoto to break up with Girl A, but he's indecisive. Girl B's friend (Girl C) gets in the picture and Makoto ends up sleeping with her. Girl D apparently had a crush on Makoto for several years and Makoto eventually sleeps with Girl D. Then Girl E, F, G, H etc. jump in and he sleeps with them as well. Basically, everyone loves Makoto. Of course...once all the girls find out about what Makoto's been doing, all hell will eventually break loose.

Thanks for the summary, Sakura - boy, what an idiot. I've seen what happened to him in the end, and can only conclude that he sure had it coming.
I'm actually one of those people who shuns Wikipedia - that thing's only as good as the people editing it, which, in many cases, isn't saying very much. Hearing an explanation from someone who's actually familiar with the topic in question is what I prefer, especially if the person is someone I consider a friend.
Funny you should mention Yomiko Readman. Sasahara once pitched a fanfic idea of Claes and Yomiko actually being distant relatives...

I'm biased because I'm a huge fan of the first season of Full Metal Panic, but I don't think you should underestimate FMP's characters. The Special Response Team (Mithril's Arm Slave pilots) seem to be trained to be able to fight quite capably on foot as well, and the Primary Response Team has a major emphasis on infantry tasks. These guys have proper combat training and access to military grade weaponry. If they know what they're dealing with and can get over shooting at kids (probably easier for some members then others) then they're a significant threat.
And if you're looking at it from less of a logical perspective and more of a badassness perspective... well, yes, Mao was almost defeated by one of the twins. That twin also looked like she could take on Pino. And she also apparently survived being in an Arm Slave that was crushed.
And then there's Grouseaux/Clouzot/Whatever the hell his name should be. We haven't seen much of him wielding small arms, but his hand to hand skills are obviously good, and he's apparently former SAS (interestingly enough, the novel has Kurz wondering if he could have been Canadian SAS. In real life, Canada doesn't have an SAS, we have JTF-2.).

Okay are we talking about mass infantry formations here? Are we talking about mechs, and fire support, or just one on one? It's true being elite professional soldiers is a major benefit. Still though the girls are assassins. Their appearance, and nature of their attacks is as great a tool to them as their skill, and abilities. I suppose a bit of it does boil down to just how fair a fight it is.

Adam: Wow, cool! How are we gonna' test that?
Jamie: We can use the chicken gun for their durability test, then use an automatic weapon and see if they can dodge them, then maybe ask Grant about a threadmil or a car to see if they can outrun the myth.
Adam: Well, that's great! So how do we test it? We don't have any...'cyborgs' around here.
Jamie: Well, for this myth, we have a special guest. (introduces the girls) This is Henrietta, Rico, Angelica, Claes, Triela, Beatrice, and Petrushka.
Adam: (where'd he get their contact...) Hey, nice to meet you!

wow that's a quick info...
humm...just feels like it:
Adam: In the first test, what we're gonna' do is fire the chicken gun on the unsuspecting girls and see their durability.
Jamie: Why would we want to do that?
Adam: Would you like to be aimed with a chicken gun?
Jamie: ...no.
Adam: That's why we need to do things without their knowing.
(Narrator: So Adam and Jamie once again assembles the chicken gun and load the chicken round. Three of the girls, Petrushka, Triela, and Claes, is then required to walk in ...considerable distance)
Jamie: Ready?
Adam: Ready as you are.
Jamie: Alright!
(the girls walk into the field unsuspecting of whatever the outcome of their situation might be. Jamie takes the aim...)
Adam: Fire~!

Henrietta: That's funny!! I never knew Giussepe's like that!
Triela: Yeah, well...there are times when you happen to be lucky to notice it.

Triela: (is splattered by blood) ...Petra...? *looks up and see her head is replaced by a chicken*
Henrietta: ...*is speechless*

*in the field*
Henrietta: That's funny!! I never knew Giussepe's like that!
Triela: Yeah, well...there are times when you happen to be lucky to notice it.
Petrushka: Hey, don't forget about...
*SMACK!!*
Triela: (is splattered by blood) ...Petra...? *looks up and see her head is replaced by a chicken*
Henrietta: ...*is speechless*
Petrushka: ...*collapses* ... *dies*
*back in the test-center*
Adam: ...Ouch...this show is rated PG+13 right...?
Jamie: Well, it is...
Adam: *turns to camera* no child is harm during the experiment! *turns to Jamie* ...busted?
Jamie: Busted.

Grant: So they say they have strong durability...
Tory: Well, I think we have something in our storage we can use...
Kary: Ooh! The Katana machine!
Grant: We could use that and see whether they could withstand a tough blow.
(sets machine up)
Grant: Ready Angie?
Angie: *nods in excitement*
Grant: *walks to safety distance* Fire it up! Be sure to block the machine!
*SHWACK!*
(Katana rips through Angie's protection in her arm, cuts the arm, then the head follows. Blood flows everywhere)
Grant: ... *turns and pukes*
Tory: ...that wasn't expected...
Kary: ...busted...I need a bucket...

I suppose a bit of it does boil down to just how fair a fight it is.Who?Piero wrote:And then there's Grouseaux/Clouzot/Whatever the hell his name should be.
The guy who replaced McAllen as Uruz One. The new Special Response Team leader in both TSR and the novels it's based on.
I wasn't really thinking of Arm Slaves, but given how dangerous the girls are, I suppose you could say that there's no such thing as overkill?
Overall though, yeah, a conflict between the SWA and Mithril would be highly dependent on who knew what. Although that goes both ways.
Actually, a crossover fanfic where Mithril and the SWA came into conflict over a whispered candidate could be rather interesting. Although with both GSG and FMP having such good casts 'who to actually kill' becomes an issue...

Adam: “So Jamie, what are we doing here on top of the Empire State building?”
Jamie: “Well Adam, today we’re testing the myth that the girls can jump from extreme heights and not get hurt.”
Adam: “And how are we going to do that?”
Jamie: “Isn’t it oblivious? We’re going to throw Triela here over the side.”
Triela: (going pale) “WHAT?! You said I was going to be the new member of the build team!”
Jamie: “In 3... 2... 1...”
Triela: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA..."
(A few minutes later) SPLAT!
Adam: “Ouch! I know that had to hurt.”
Jamie: “So what do you think Adam, busted?”
Adam: “Definitely busted.”

Wileama wrote small snippets on this in the old forum...
Granted, he's no ordinary human since he's an 'idea.' I dare to bet my marbles V from V for Vendetta would demolish all the girls (and their handlers) without breaking a sweat. Ok, let;s throw Pino in there as well

Adam: So there's this myth that cyborgs can withstand an impact from a car in top speed
Jamie: Just like the one in Terminator, right?
Adam: Exactly! So for this myth, we've prepared a long track and a 5-ton truck with buster in it. He'll be driving up to top speed and see of the girls could handle it.
Jamie: You know Adam, I have a feeling this one would be busted...should we spare it?
Adam: Well, the fans in Cyborg Central wouldn't be pleased if this myth goes untested. Is that where we should have this concluded?
Jamie: No. Alright then, lets get to the range.
(Narrator: So Adam and Jamie head over to the old test field where the use of the old previous myth on compact-corvette and other high-speed myth. The stage was set, and Claes stands ready in the field)
Adam: So Claes, I heard you're the one who was...flexed more often than the other girls...is that true?
Claes: I don't quite remember what happened to me and why was that, but its true.
Adam: So you think you can accomplish this myth and prove it confirmed?
Claes: I guess so.
Adam: Alright then. Jamie! Ready? (moves away from the test zone)
Jamie: Ready!
Adam: In 3...2...1....GO!!
(The truck speeds up, aligning its lane towards Claes as it sped forward)
Claes: ...I wonder how mythbusting feels like...must be hard and painful...(saw the truck)...they didn't tell me I'm supposed to stop THAT TRUCK!! THAT'S...
BAM!!!
Adam: CLAES!!
Jamie: Did she stop it...?
Adam: I don't see her...
(Jamie walk towards the now slowing truck, and soon discovered where Claes was hiding)
Adam: ...wow...
Jamie: She got herself stuck to the windshield...
Adam: ...look at all the blood. I don't think the driver could see what's ahead of them after this...
Jamie: ...euw...is that...guts....?
Adam: ...alright, busted?
Jamie: Definitely busted.

I propose that the MythBusters crossover idea be written into a proper fic and published - perhaps with Petra as Buster. Stat.

Jamie: So, what is today's myth?
Adam: Today's myth is to find out how much love and loyalty one can get through the conditioning drug.
Jamie: Well, how are we going to do this one? Interview the cyborgs?
Triela walks in yelling.
Triela: JUST BECAUSE WE'RE FRATELLO DOES NOT MEAN THAT WE OFTEN GET ALONG!
Adam: We can look at their records...
TV gets turned on and show's Elsa blowing off Lauro's head.
Jamie: I think this one is busted even before we started on the planning phase...
Adam: Its beginning to look like that.

...so much cruelty...so much death... so much grusome death... no much SCIENCE...
I like it. Request for fully fledged Mythbusters fic, thirded.
Someone should try the chinese astonomer thing . You could lump it with fining out of the girls can stand back up after a huge explosion like a Cyberdyne 101 with all their flesh burned off to show their metal endoskeleton or something.

Re: Cyborg Busters, Humans with attitude
That would not work, Sasahara...
Why? They are still people- blood and flesh under all that techology. Given an explosion and fireball, all that flesh would burn off, killing them.

Re: Cyborg Busters, Humans with attitude
But you know Adam and Jamie. They'd try for the sake of trying anyway. Strap poor unsuspecting Rico (Claes is already roadkill right) to a tanker loaded with gas and the blow it all sky high. Then they'll look at the smoldering mix of twisted metal and charred flesh...
Hm, she's not coming out...
Oh well.
Busted?

Re: Cyborg Busters, Humans with attitude
Hm, it just occured to me. Since this thread started off as a 'who's good enogth to be a cyborg buster' thread, doesd this mean that Adam and Jamie would be a cyborg's ultimate nightmare?
Who poor Petra as Buster though? I thought she was physically weaker than the Gen 1s? Whouln't that defeat the puropse of testing the true limits of their physical capabilities?
Unless of course, you put her supposed 'superior inflitation' skills to the test. Remember that myth about the Teminator being detectable by dogs? I wonder if the SWA's 'inflitation cyborg' can bluff her way through horde of baying bloodhounds....
Speaking of bloodhounds... I just read Black Lagoon Vol 6. Fabiola gave my GSG vibes for some reason. She was short, really kicked ass, and WTF pump action grenade launcher.
