Yup, I have. More handguns with buttstocks exist than one might normally think.

plus, it's a CZ-75 clone, so I already have mags for it...

But now the gun looks like a plastic toy...

...but why would a butt-stock for a handgun is needed in the first place? Handguns were originally side-arms, why would they need buttstocks? It wreaks its concealable ability.

I can only guess that it would be for when you have to travel with no more than a light backpack, and need both hands free most of the time. For example: climbing a sheer rock wall sucks even more when you have a rifle or SMG hanging off of you with its sling.
Definitely not something even your average special forces guy would need to do, so I guess it's a real niche market.

Maybe it's for competition pistol shooting? Is it to obvious I just pulled that out of my rear?

AWAIK VP70 implements plastic holster as gunstock. You can see same in APS (Stechkin) http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg22-e.htm. By the way, I think this gun (APS) more suited for Olga.

depends if someone makes the kit for that model. otherwise it's all custom machining. Probably just need a lengthened chamber (possibly doable with a swapped barrel), modified mags, and in a worst case scenario, a bored out mag well to do it.

You know I never thought about just how crazy their ammo supply has to be. I know feel compelled to make a list, so that I might see it.

9x19mm
  1. Henrietta: SIG P239
  2. Jose: Mac 10 [episode 12]
  3. Rico: CZ 75
  4. Claes:VP-70, MP-5 K
  5. Angelica: TMP [vol 3 pg 135-136]
  6. Elsa: SIG P226
  7. Petra: Spectre M4, Taurus PT92
  8. Beatrice: IMI Mirco Uzi
7.62x51mm
  1. Rico: MG3
  2. Henrietta: FN Fal [vol 4 pg 124], Walther WA 2000 [episode 9]
  3. Triela: G3 [episode three]
5.56x45mm
  1. Angelica: Steyr AUG
  2. Rico: SCP70/90 [episode seven, vol 2 pg 111]
  3. Elsa: SG 550
5.7x28mm
  1. Henrietta: P-90
  2. Jose: FiveseveN
12 Gauge:
  1. Triela: M1897
  2. Rico: Benelli M4 Super 90 [vol 6 pg 99-100]
7.62x54mm
  1. Rico: SVD
It would seem that everyone, and there mother loves 9mm. Which makes sense. Interestingly enough though Rico seems to be the worst offender. She uses 5 different rounds in cannon, and possibly the only consumer of 7.62x54mm.

Okay I know I missed Angelica's pistol volume 5 page 33-34. Both pistols Triela has used. Not to mention all the handlers besides Jose. Is there anything else I'm missing? Maybe from Il Teatrino?

Hillshire - HK USP
Jean - Browning Hi-Power
Elsa - PGM Ultima Ratio Hecate II
Olga - Magnum Research Desert Eagle
Marco - some kind of Beretta

If you take fanon into consideration, the worst offender in the SWA would actually have to be my OC, Altheus. He uses a HK G11.

Luckily they're assassins so (I'd assume) they don't need to carry too much ammo. So maybe two spare mags or so for their pistol is "everyday" use.

Of course if they were a sort of commando unit where full blown battle was the name of the game then I shudder to think of Rico trying to carry enough ammunition for all five weapons that use five different calibers. Not that Rico would want to bring all five guns, but that's another discussion.

This would be the good/bad part of being an assassination unit I guess. You can use what you want, but you better hope the armory has the 30 bajillion flavors of ammo.

At least none of them use ball and black powder. Razz

...on second thought. An parody/alternate history of GSG set when firearms were first being invented would be fun. "Henrietta, load the cannon with grapeshot!"

But why the 9mm? Is it because its so common and bound to be plenty of them?

Personally, the .45 packs more punch and is a true kicker--knock down targets good. Its even more powerful than the 9mm, so why use it other than there's plenty of them?

I'd say that's exactly the reason. If you have to take missions all over the world, what are you most likely to find available? Probably 9mm.

You could also probably say that since they're cyborgs and such, their aim is much better than the average shooter, and it doesn't matter what caliber the bullet is if it hits you in the head or the heart (excluding some freak survival event.)

9mm is cheaper as well, and even the SWA has bills to pay.

well, Ange's is a 9x19, so no problem there. However, Triela's primary handgun is a SIG P230 (and later a 232), which fires a .380ACP, or 9x17mm. So, another type of ammo.

We find more rounds--credits to the armorer Laughing

I thought we have the RaketenPanzerbusche Panzerschreck as one weapon for the girls? Was it Col. Marksman who did that?

I think there's other who uses the .30 cal, and another with a round for the M1 Garand.

Was there anyone beside Colo-sen's OC that uses Anti-Armor weaponry? Anti-Armor rifles?

My OCs uses 9mm Parabellum, .45 ACP, 7.92x33mm Kurz, and 7.62x51mm.

I think there's more, but I can't remember. Other than those, I think my OC uses the K98k once or twice, and that 7.92x57mm mauser I think

You have to consider fire arms practice though. It isn't that unusual for elite groups like the SAS to burn through 500 rounds per soldier a day.

As for 9mm, There is a reason why it's popular. It's common in arms manufacturing, more so then .45. Low recoil, high ammo capacity. That, and as it's arleady been said it's hard to tell the difference between a 9mm, and .45 when it's in your brain. Most of their targets probably don't have body armor either.

Re: This one has gunstock like Claes's VP70!!!

Post by Piero on Mon 12 May 2008 - 23:09

Has anyone mentioned the 9x17mm Beretta (wasn\'t it an 84 or 85) that Angelica used yet? What about Triela\'s P7, UMP, and MP7? Marco has a Steyr GB18, it\'s another 9x19mm, but long out of production and probably hard to find parts and magazines for.

BTW, while there are 7.62x51mm WA-2000s, wasn\'t .300 Winchester Magnum the standard chambering? (On this note, I should add that the P230 and P232 could be had in either .32 or .380, though I\'d lean towards .380 for Hillshire and Triela).

.45 is very rare compared to 9x19mm in Europe (which is probably more of a concern for the SWA then what the most common worldwide calibre is, although the 9x19mm is probably more common worldwide too). 9x17mm is a reasonably common calibre in Europe as well, so while it\'s another calibre, I wouldn\'t knock it too much.

As far as OCs are concerned, I can add that Piero favours a Manurhin revolver in .357 magnum. And that I\'ve considered that my fratello may on occassion make use of a rifle in .338 Lapua when they have reason to believe that their usual G3-SG/1 (7.62x51mm NATO) would prove inadequate. Oh yeah, and of their weapons that use common calibres, they may be somewhat picky about specific types of ammunition. HK53s benefit quite a bit from using Open Tip Match rounds rather then standard 5.56mm FMJ due to their short barrels.

I think the Fernando/Rachel OC team has it the worst with their .32/.38NAA, which uses .32 cal / .38 necked down cartridges from NAA. Those are their mission weapons... the oddball ammo is something. :face:
As for personal weapons, Rachel as the 1911 .45ACP, which is fairly standard.
Fernando has the American Arms Model 1984, which is no longer made for one and is a parts nightmare since the comapny went under in the 1990's. Why Fernando chose it? bang head

eh, I've always found the 1911 a bit big for a single-stack .45. the GLOCK 36 holds one less round and is about half the size. I know that means the barrel's shorter, so accuracy suffers... but most handgun engagements take place at less than 7m, and I can make a torso shot every time at 7m with a 36...
as for its status as a full-sized .45... well, it holds 7 rounds. Almost every handgun maker out there sells a full sized double-stack that holds 13 rounds, and has comparable or superior accuracy.

That being said.. the 1911 is still a useful weapon, and the design, for its day, was completely awesome. There's just better available these days.

Re: This one has gunstock like Claes's VP70!!!

Post by Wileama on Tue 13 May 2008 - 12:27

I finally have some time to add what I've missed, and make corrections as need. First I'm not throwing OC's into this list. It would just be to much pain for me.

First, there are three chamberings for the WA-2000. The two most likely are 7.62, and .308. Apparently the difference can be made clear with what kind of flash compensator the rifle has. I checked the scene, and since it's solid yes it would appear to be a .300 Winchester Magnum.

About the Triela's P7. Is that the gun she took of Mario? If it is then it was little more then a toss away gun for her. Not something the quatermaster has to worry about requisitioning for. So I don't see the need to put it on the list. I found the UMP in Vol 1 pg 46. I'm going to go with the .45 ACP. Also I'll throw in the MP7, but I'm not sure where it's used. The same goes for Hilshires USP. Finally there doesn't seem to be a clear consences on Angelica's pistol. Till then she states off the list.

I'm a little shocked to see a .50 BMG in the list. It makes sense, but still. That's a round that speaks loudly. It does suite Elsa though doesn't it? We have 12, or 11 different rounds the armor has to keep on hand depending on the time. I think I'll do some estimates on how much of each ammo they consume a week. Once I've slept anyway. Until then updated list:
9x19mm
  1. Henrietta: SIG P239
  2. Jose: Mac 10 [episode 12]
  3. Rico: CZ 75
  4. Jean: Browning Hi-Power
  5. Hillshire: HK USP
  6. Claes:VP-70, MP-5 K
  7. Angelica: TMP [vol 3 pg 135-136]
  8. Marco: Steyr GB18

That's a very interesting way of looking at things, Wil. I always thought Mario was unarmed when they arrested him, and that Triela's P7 was her own.

Where pistols are concerned, Angie's used a Beretta M84 and some kind of Steyr. There's a possibility that the Beretta is shared with Marco.

Angie's Steyr pistol was an M-1A:
Spoiler:
Marco's is an M-GB:
Spoiler:

can't remember when Angie used the M84 (or was that just on the cover of a manga?)... but Marco's always just had the GB, as far as I can remember.

Everyone's GSG encyclopedic knowledge of guns amaze me.

I normally only remember their iconic weapons like 'Etta's P90 or Triela's Trench Gun. Maybe that means I just need to read the manga's more.

Someone really ought to put up a sticky topic here, which fully lists all the guns each character uses/has used.

I dunno, I'm pretty bad... I habitually notice stuff like "Hey the gun Leonardo Conti holds to Patricia's head is a GLOCK 26!"
So, I think that instead of "ZOMG! He has a gun! shoot 'im, Marco!"
...it's kinda sad, really.

I'd generally though that the P7 belonged to Triela as well. We never saw her take it off Mario, although I suppose it could have been his.

Two more for 5.56mm from Rico -a SiG, probably a 551, from the manga (chapter three, I think) and the Galil MAR from the anime.

The MP7 is from Volume 6, the scene where Marco and Alessandro are talking near where the cyborgs are training. It shows up around the same time as Rico's Benelli.

here ya go:

I can't tell who's holding it though. It's not Triela, she's wearing a black shirt (though the belt matches). It's not the guy training Ange, he's got an assault rifle of some kind. It's not Marco or Sandro (unless it's a flashback), they're both clothed differently than that frame and (visibly at least) unarmed.
might be a guard in a tower or somethin'...

**edit**
I take it back. It might be the guy training Ange. What I took for a banana mag might be the front handle swinging with the guy's rearward movement.

I don't think it's Triela, either - I'm going for the guy with Angie, whom I think is Georgio.

Just for the record - Amadeo uses some kind of HK weapon, either an MP5A2 or a G36, which appeared in Volume Four. Anyone (read: LoC, to whom I'm grateful) able to dig up a pic?

I actually have trouble recongising Amadeo. Is he one of the ones who was discussing Triela's defeat by Pinocchio prior to her departure on the mission to protect Mimi? Because the assault rifle we can see there isn't either of the weapons you described. Magazine type is wrong. Might be a folding stock Beretta AR, but I'm not entirely sure.

Yeah, Amadeo's one of those two - the one who looks like Kevin Bacon.

And regarding the weapon - bleh. That's what you get when your memory's shaky, and your manga volumes are nowhere nearby...

So he has locks hanging in front of his forehead instead of a buzz cut like the guy he was talking to?

BTW, I'm now fairly sure it's a Beretta SC-70/90 or SCP-70/90 (the SCP-70/90 being the carbine version of the SC-70/90).

I'm 99% certain it the guy training Ange - the clothes and the gun look the same to me.

Yup, he's the one with the locks - thanks for clearing that up about his gun. And I say Georgio (Mr. Buzzcut) is the one with the MP7 who's training Angie.

Having used some magnification to take a close look at the gun the guy training Angie is wielding, I'd say he's definitely not holding an MP7. Maybe an MP5, though it seems a bit lengthy for that.)

But Triela wasn't holding a gun when she was critiquing Henrietta and Rico earlier either, so...

Interesting note is that whoever is holding that gun is holding it in their left hand, not their right.

Actually, she did fire that P7 (note I said P7, not MP7) left handed in Episode 4, didn't she? Any other instances you can think of?

Speaking of which, anyone think that a good argument for the P7 being Triela's was the fact that she knew how to use it? It's not like a SiG or Glock where all you need to do when you have a loaded chamber is pull the trigger.

My point exactly - that instance is what totally sealed the 'Triela is ambidextrous' deal for me. I'm not sure about any other such happenings, though.

That final argument you make is as sound as any. But then again, I'm one of those people who think it's a given that the P7 belongs to Triela.
