A Surprise Visitor (Rome RPG Thread Four)

OOC: This is a thread another player and I have been planning to do for a while. It's specifically for the two characters we're playing. Sorry, but for now at least it's kind of a private thread (in terms of posting -you're free to view it, and may be amused by what you read if you do).

IC:
Diana had had a very long day.

Spurned by Jean's plans to get Diana involved in a mission as soon as possible, Piero had ramped up his cyborg's training schedule, putting far more into each day then he'd originally intended to. Diana didn't resent her handler for his new schedule, as he was not harsh to her in training -in fact, he did his best to encourage his fledgeling charge- but she couldn't help but feel a bit worn at the end of the day.

Fetching a change of clothes and a towel from her quarters, Diana proceeded to the showers, hoping that getting cleaned up would help refresh her somewhat. Not that she exactly had a lot to refresh herself for -it was getting close to the time when she should be going to bed. She felt a little disappointed that she hadn't been able to socialise much with the other girls that day.

Fifteen minutes later and feeling a bit better, Diana proceeded back down the corridor towards her quarters, her medium-long hair hanging wetly around her head rather then being tied back in the ponytail she'd adopted as her hairstyle. Walking up to her quarters, she openned the door...

Hanging the empty duffel bag in the corner, Beatrice's eyes swept the room to make sure she had unpacked everything.

Sleeping bag on floor, check.

Clothes now in cuboard, check.

Assorted belongings in cardboard box in corner, check

She'd even rolled out that Indian carpet Bernado had given her to give the room a more homely feel. Beatrice made a mental note to ask the Logistics divisioon to provide their room with a double bunk bed since the had now two occupants. Other than that, she was properly moved into her new residence.

Beatrice mentally checked off that mission objective in her head just as the primary mission objective walked into their shared room. Perfect. Commencing next phase of operation.

"Hello Diana."

OOC: Don't worry about it too much. It's only a couple of days.

IC:
"Um..." Diana took a step backwards, wondering if she'd accidentally come to the wrong room. A quick glance however told her that such was not the case, as she recognised her things on the desk at the rear of the room. Which just made the presence of the unfamiliar cyborg and the things that had appeared with her all the more confusing.

Glancing around a bit, Diana finally found her voice.

"Uh, this is my room," she informed the other girl hesitantly.

"Affirmative." Beatrice responded. "As you can see, It is now my room as well."

Had she had been living in the dormitories for a long time, Diana might have demanded to know exactly when her room had become the other girl's room as well, but since it was only her third day out of the medical ward, she was still treading lightly. She was still a newcomer, after all.

"Uh... okay."

Somewhat uncertain as to what to do, she took a step into the room and closed the door behind her before speaking again.

"I... um... sorry, but I don't think I know your name."

"My name? Beatrice. I believe yours is Diana, correct?" Beatrice replied in a manner of fact tone.

Diana was still feeling a little surprised by Beatrice's presence. She would have thought Piero would have told her in advance about something like this.

"Well, from now on I'll be keeping my eye on you." Beatrice warned pointing her index finger at Diana while cocking her head at a small angle and slightly squinting her rear eye.

Beatrice lifted her chin closing her eyes, turned about, and swung her arm gracefully above her head. "'Keep an eye on her, Bice. She's new so it'll take her some time to get used to this place.' he told me." she said, mimicking Bernardo's voice. "And that's exactly what I'll do." Beatrice continued matter-of-factly, whirling back around and locking her eyes on Diana.

Diana recoiled slightly at the intensity of Beatrice's gaze, now even more confused then she had been before.

"He told you to keep an eye on me? Who's he?"

"Yes. Uh... is there anything I can get you?" she asked politely, noting the awkward nature of Beatrice's living arrangements.

Diana nodded.

"You're probably right," she agreed before walking over to her
dresser. She'd actually intended to play her flute a little, so she
hadn't changed into her sleepwear just yet, but the other girl had a point -it was pretty late.

Walking over to her dresser, Diana took out a set of pajamas and was about to start changing when a thought occured to her.

"Um... do you mind?" she asked Beatrice, using her head to indicate that the other girl should look the other way.

Diana paused for a moment, quite surprised by the fact that Beatrice didn't quite get it. She didn't think her request was that hard to interpret.

"Could you just well... look the other way for a minute?" she requested.

Diana looked strangely at Beatrice for a few moments, then proceeded to change into her sleepwear, all the while thinking that her new roommate was just a little bit odd...

"You can turn around now," she told Beatrice when she had finished.

"Are you all right?" she asked.

Diana walked over to her bunk and slipped under the covers, wrapping them tightly around herself for extra warmth. It was not long before exhaustion caught up to her and she drifted off to sleep.

OOC: It's the next morning.

IC:
"I wonder what Bice's up to..." Bernardo thought as he headed out
for the cafeteria to eat breakfast. He pulled out a cigarette and
hunched over his lighter as he walked by the doors to the other girls'
rooms.

"Bice's room is a few doors down," he noticed when
suddenly the door just ahead on his right opened in front of him. Beatrice came out chatting to someone.

"Ha~?" he exclaimed dropping his unlit cigarette to the ground. "Isn't her room farther down?" he asked himself, still hunched over his lighter.

Beatrice blinked in surprise. "Oh, good morning Bernardo." she said politely. Diana stepped out into the dog run and closed the door behind her.

Bernardo was even more confused. "Why are you- I mean what are you-" he started stammering.

"What's going on here!?" Bernardo cried out straightening up and putting his hands on his head.

"What do you mean?" Beatrice asked. "You said to keep an eye on her."

"Eh?" Bernardo looked puzzled for a moment then started laughing.

"I meant watch out for her and see if she needed any help adjusting to this place. Not take over her room." he explained still chuckling.

Beatrice stared at him blankly. "That doesn't make any sense. Come on, let's go eat breakfast." she said already walking towards the mess hall.

"Ah, hey wait for me." Bernardo said as he followed after her. Then he remembered his cigarette. "Oh yeah!" he exclaimed, "Wouldn't want to forget that."

He picked up the cigarette, brushed it off, and returned it to its pack
before continuing after Beatrice.

Diana glanced back at Bernardo, then hurried to catch up to Beatrice, calling out quick greeting to Bernardo as she did so. As she ran, her mind was working to try to figure out what the conversation between the Beatrice and her handler had meant.

Wait a minute.... does this mean she wasn't supposed to be in my room? That would certainly explain why Piero hadn't given her advance warning of the fact that she was getting a roommate!

Finally catching up to Beatrice, Diana fell into step next to the other cyborg.

"Um, Beatrice, is it true that Bernardo never told you to move in with me? she asked.

"Huh? Oh, well he never said outright to move in, but how else would I keep an eye on you?" Beatrice explained. "When you're on a mission, sometimes you just have to make a decision based on the data you have and your best judgment. Bernardo told me that." she quoted.

"Uh..." Diana replied, the question having got her a bit off guard. She wasn't sure how she felt about the issue, now that she was being offered a choice on it. She'd been an only child, so the idea of a roommate in some ways appealed to her, but on the other hand she wasn't sure she wanted to lose her privacy.

"I'll have to ask Piero about it," she replied noncommitally.

Taking a look at Beatrice's expression, Diana got the impression she had offended the other girl.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you. It's just that..."

She trailed off again. How was she to explain things without offending the other girl again?

"Hm?" Beatrice asked but got no response from Diana. They walked in silence the rest of the way to the dining hall. Beatrice of course had no idea how cold this type of behavior seemed to Diana. She was merely being practical.

Diana followed along behind Beatrice as the two proceeded to the mess hall and got into line to get some food. The new cyborg found the whole situation uncomfortably awkward -she wanted to say something to break the tension, but wasn't sure what to say. Part of her was tempted to make a recommendation on the food selections, but since Beatrice had been at the SWA far longer then she had, she probably was already familiar with the menu.

Still, she needed something to say, and the food was about the only thing she could think of to make a comment on at that moment, so she took the idea and ran with it.

"The croissants are really good, aren't they?" she asked, making note of one of the items she'd tried before.

"I'll have to try one of those at some point," Diana noted as she helped herself to some eggs. Thanks to Beatrice's tone, she was beginning to feel a little more comfortable, though she still worried about the other cyborg harbouring resentment beneath her seemingly cordial exterior.

"Where do you want to sit?" she asked.

OOC: If any of the people playing the other girls want to join in, now is an opportunity.

Standing in line behind Diana and Beatrice, she noticed the two of them talking. Wishing to get to know them better, Angelica said to Beatrice "Hello there Beatrice, how are you today?" Turning to Diana, Angelica then said to her "Hello there Diana, my name is Angelica but you can call me Angie, everyone else does." Smiling, Angelica then said to Diana "It's a pleasure to meet you Diana, I've heard about you."

(OOC: I hope that I didn't mess up because it's been a while since I last posted in this RP. As for Angelica's greeting to Beatrice, I'm guessing that the two of them may have interacted before once or twice.)

OOC: I might have had Angelica ask the new girl if she was Diana rather then simply greet her as such, since she's probably just going by someone else's discription, but this works fine.

IC:
Diana nodded her head and smiled back at the other girl, who seemed very nice.

"Thank you, Angelica. I'm pleased to meet you too. I'd heard a little bit about you from the others."

Truth be told, she hadn't heard much -barely anything really, as the mention of the other girl had been with regards to disappointment at her absence at tea a couple days before- but it seemed like as good a way to start things off as any.

Smiling, Angelica said to Beatrice's offer to sit with them "Sure, I'd love to sit with you guys."
Despite her cheerful demeanor, Angelica was privately unhappy that she wasn't able to have tea with the other girls a couple days earlier but she had some urgent business with Marco at the time that the tea party was taking place.

"Hopefully, I'll be able to get to know Diana and Beatrice better this way." Angelica thought to herself.

She then turned to Diana and asked her just out of curiousity "So, what did Triela, Claes and the others say about me?".

Smiling, Angelica then said to Diana "That was nice of Triela to say that about me and she's right, I've been here the longest although I do have trouble remembering those early days at times.".

Turning to Beatrice, Angelica then said to her "I'm sorry to hear that you missed the tea party as well.".

(OOC: As you can see, I made note of Angelica's memory problems caused by the conditioning drugs and her being the first GSG girl in existence. However, I don't plan on making her problems the focus of my posts.)
