The more disturbing thing is that she is the one that was the most stable before, having had a relatively easy life as a cyborg. Compare her to Triela who is simply forgetting things and requiring more dosage, even though she's probably had more work on her body than Henrietta and is right there next to Angelica on the service life totem.

I think a lot of the stability comes from the mind. The more mature and older girls seem to be more stable overall, so maybe the level of brain development has more to do with it than damage incurred.

Then again, how would Rico fit into that hypothesis? She's "as old" as Henrietta in cyborg terms, she's about the same development age, maybe a touch older, and she's probably taken more damage. She's also had more conditioning than 'Etta. Yet, from what we've seen, she's about to peak on her personal ass-kicking ability and has not indicated she's had the same memory issues.

I can see why the lab-boys are completely out of the norm for the average research facility. It's not just the subjects, it's the massive variations in the data and having to make sense of it all. I'd want a pair of cute twins working under me too, if only to look at all day when the numbers get to me.

it's probably cause Rico doesn't really care she forgot, in Emilio's case she's probably even glad she did.

Triela notes she can no longer remember when she received her weapons in Chapter 50.

When you are conditioned to be nothing much more then a tool, there is less complexity there to get screwed up by the consitioning.

Perhaps she'll have the more merciful end???

Actualy they did mention about her being raped (next to the bodies of her family) the very first time Jose saw her.

Ok, since we’ve started to learn a good bit more about the girls and their handlers in recent chapters and episodes, I thought it might not be a bad time to revise their sections in the wiki. I also took the liberty of trimming them a bit, since in many cases they were more plot summaries than character summaries. Let me know what you think, please.

Left for dead after the brutal murder of her family, Henrietta was assaulted throughout the night next to the dead bodies of her parents. She suffered severe psychological trauma and became suicidal. Henrietta's favorite activity is to spend time with her handler, Jose, whom towards she has strong feelings of affection. Whenever Jose seems to turn his attention to other women, Henrietta shows signs of jealousy. Henrietta is starting to forget past events due to the effects of the conditioning medication, which causes her great distress. She is also starting to remember the original attack on her and her family. Henrietta's preferred weapons are the SIG Sauer P239 Two-Tone, the Fabrique Nationale P90 PDW, and the FN FAL. With the exception of the Walther WA 2000 sniper rifle and Jose's Ingram MAC-10, both of which anime-specific, the Henrietta/Jose fratello use exclusively Fabrique Nationale and SiG weapons (Jose uses the FN Five-seveN).

I've been writing character profiles for the cast section of the Passion Lives Here website (hopefully going online in the next fortnight) and I actually found Henrietta's the most difficult to write. This one has good clarity and helped to give me a shove in the right direction here, Kiskaloo, so thanks very much for it. Smile

It was a Henrietta moment in the first anime that really hooked me on GsG. In the Elsa episode, 'Etta is at the range with Giuseppe, and doing rather well. Giuse feels he can let his attention wander, and compliments an ailing Angelica on her performance.

Henrietta becomes jealous as her handler pays attention to another cyborg, so she starts missing her targets intentionally. Of course, this draws Giuse's attention back to her, and he never catches on. It was just so sneaky & subtle...

Never catches on? There's this bit that comes later in the same episode where Giuseppe tells Lauro: "If Henrietta's in front of me or other cyborgs, she gets stiff trying to show us what she can do." Also, when we actually get to the mission, we can see Giuseppe offering Henrietta lots of reassurance/encouragement...

What I meant was, Giuse never catches on that 'Etta is manipulating him. He speaks to her later and says "you should be better with a pistol than I am." Only the audience can see that she's sandbagging so he's forced to work closely with her. The reassurance & encouragement (i.e. attention) are exactly what Henrietta wants.

It's never explained (which is something I like...the audience is not spoon-fed the story) but I assumed 'Etta was missing on purpose to draw Giuse's attention off Angelica and back to her.

Your interpretation is equally plausible.

The scene felt more like a distraction issue, not intentional missing of the target. Interesting view on that though.

No... In the Cleas' Episode, Henrietta was doing poorly at the handgun firing range as well while Rabello and Jose spoke to eack other.

It seems that she is incapable of doing things alone in her early years at Section 2. She admits for doing things for Jose but is more worried about him being angry at her for little things. In short, she is a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

Based on the manga, I think Henrietta and Rico were the next to last Generation One cyborgs to arrive (with Claes being the last). So it might just be a case of Henrietta is still learning how to be a combat soldier, if not for the anime changing that timeline to have Rico and Henrietta be there for two years.

Personally, I can't see Henrietta being as bad and unstable as she appears in the anime after two years of service. Jean either would have forced Jose to condition her up the arse to become like Rico or they would have just terminated her as an unusable subject.

It makes much more sense to me that she and Rico had been there only six months or less and were still getting up to speed, as the manga implied. I don't know why the anime writers made that change, but it's just one of the reasons I personally do not consider the first anime series as part of the "canon".

Really doesn't help much that the anime's episodes were sometimes presented in a non-linear/non-chronological format.

So I'm slogging through Chapter 72 and it's tough because Machine Translation of Japanese to English sucks (oh if only the French licensor was still publishing GSG!), but I think that with Beatrice dead, Lorenzo wants to give Henrietta the ability to sniff out explosives, even though this will require additional conditioning and will shorten her life - already said to be in it's twilight - even more...

It's been suggested before that the SWA could make up the shortfalls in their budget by selling "Cyborg Scout Cookies" door to door.
While I'm sure Henrietta would use her cuteness to great effect, I believe Rico would be the top seller.

(knocks on door)

Rico: Hello Sir; I'm selling cookies to benefit the Social Welfare Agency.

Man: Well, that's very nice, but I don't need any cookies. I'm sorry.

Rico: No...I'm sorry .

Man: Eh...you know...I just changed my mind...I do need a box...or 10!

That would really compromise the security of the agency.

Random Guy in Room: "Where did you hear that rumor?"

Guy with Glasses: "A couple of my friends where held at gunpoint by a little girl the other day, who claimed to be with the Social Welfare Agency."

Random Guy in Room: "Seriously? What did she want?"

Guy with Glasses: "She wanted them to...buy 'Cyborg Scout Cookies'." (He shows them a picture of some of the cookies.)

*** Knock at the Door ***

Guy with Glasses: "Lui, do you see anything?"

Lui: (at the door) "Well...A guy in a business suit and a girl...she looks like one of those cookies!"

Random Guy in Room: (panicked voice) "This is for real guys! We better not open the door!"

Guy with Glasses: "Good thing we can use these cookies to identify the top secret cyborg child assassins which are trying to kill us."

And that would have been the sad story of how Henrietta was deprived of killing 5 Padania terrorists.

If only there were cookies of the whole team. Course, that would make a big problem for the SWA. Sell them in America or other continants.

Padanian #1: Alright, you heard the boss, none 'a you mugs open the door for little girls selling Cyborg Scout Cookies!

Valid point there...so maybe we leave the word "Cyborg" off the name on the box.

Ferro: Yes...and that's a major contributing factor to those budget shortfalls we're forced to make up.

Henrietta: Oops...sorry.

Tasked with selling her quota I think your Rachel would go with the "final scene of the Terminator" strategy...

Rachel: Watch and learn...this works every time. (musses her hair, rubs some dirt onto her face, forces a few fake tears) Okay, I'm ready.
Rachel approaches a group of tourists...

Rachel: (looking forlorn) Please...if I don't sell these cookies for €10 my Daddy will beat me.

Tourist: That's terrible! I'll take two boxes!

Rachel walks back to where 'Etta is waiting...having sold 8 boxes total.

Henrietta: But Rachel, these cookies only cost €2 a box.

Rachel: I know. (peels off €16 and stuffs it in her collection box...pockets the other €64)

Post by Officer_Charon on Wed 20 Oct 2010 - 3:30

So, my mind tends to consider worst-case scenarios, alternatives to the obvious, and influences that act behind the scenes. It's something that I did before I became a cop, and something that I've honed since then.

That being said, I was re-reading the manga (Thanks Elfen! ) and re-watching the anime, trying to get my writing mojo in gear, and my mind pinged on something.

I know it's already been covered here that Henrietta was assaulted, vice sexually assaulted in the canon (rather, the sexually part was never specifically mentioned, nor even implied.) However, she states to Triela that when she was converted, they removed her uterus.

One could posit that the removal was to allow her body to be toughened against damage by the removal of a non-necessary organ. However, were that the case, a CQB expert like Triela would also have had hers removed.

This was when my mind started thinking like SVU. What if her uterus was removed as a consequence of sexual assault, such as an involuntary impregnation? I know that her implied age is something around 10, so the onset of menarche is not improbable...

Maybe I'm focusing too much on this one particular detail in Henrietta's already tragic life? It would certainly be in keeping with the grittiness of the setting...

Hmmm...entirely possible, although it seems irrelevant to the flow of the story. If Yu was unwilling to positively acknowladge the obvious fact that she was raped over and over again while laying next to the dead bodies of her family I don't think he's going to acknowladge that the SWA gave her an abortion.

What's done is done...I doubt Yu is going to give us many more details on Henrietta's past.

Side-bar point; I'm happy to see someone else taking a very gritty, horribly realist approach to GsG fanfiction. Perhaps your backgroud in Law Enforcement can provide a perspective that isn't seen enough.

I would think that it would not be necessary to remove her uterus to terminate a pregnancy, especially one that was what, only a few days old?

Mind you, I am operating under the assumption her uterus was removed at the original hospital and not during her cybernetic conversion because if they took Henrietta's out during conversion, they should have done it to all the girls, and yet we know they did not with Triela. So uterus removal is not SOP for a conversion.

I dunno, I'm still of the opinion that the cyborg conversion process and conditioning isn't an exact science. The SWA's right out on the ragged edge of what medical science can achieve, so I imagine they're trying different things all the time, particularly when it came to creating the Gen1 girls. So I imagine each case being slightly different, not to mention girls coming in with different injuries or mental traumas. Sure there are probably some standard guidelines, but they'd be just that: guidlines.

Besides, they're Italian... and I'm sure we all remember how the Italians went about building things like Lamborginis. What was handy was what was used to build a car. Hence why none of the wiring diagrams ever look like what's actually in the car. Razz

I'd never really given it much thought, but that's logical. Given the nature of her assault it was probably hemorrhaging a lot of blood.

I strongly doubt Yu will ever do it but I'd love to see the back-story on Henrietta's family, and why they were wiped out so brutally. All we know is that there were 6 of them (plus 'Etta) and she was the only survivor.

@theprodigalson: I agree.

Nacht, Kisk: I wasn't trying to claim that the hysterectomy was required because of a pregnancy - or rather that the pregnancy was the ONLY reason for it - but rather that it was something that had just worked itself into the gearing in my head and wouldn't come loose.

It seemed to make more sense when I initially thought it up, at least... :/
