Five-five is awfully tall for a thirteen-year-old. But then again, almost everyone's awfully tall to me...

You know, we had a GsG Season II post with had a height chart of the cyborgs with it. Hillshire was just under 6ft (less than 2M). If I remember correctly, Triela was placed at about 1.4M (about 5ft).

Well, even if it isn't, it does look kind of potentially useful.

Where did you get it? And is it bigger in the original form?

Wow she's short... Though considering that she's a cyborg, that's hardly surprising, is it?

Depends how old she was when she became a cyborg. If she was say, thirteen, she wouldn't really be that short, though I guess it depends who you're comparing her to (I believe Nacht's info on the subject indicated the average height for a thirteen year old Italian girl is about 5'1 1/2.

Can anyone read what the height charts at the sides of the images say and get an approximate gauge on how tall each character is (yes, I know I asked about Triela, but I'm curious about the others as well). Sorry, but they're a bit small for me to make out even with glasses.

The numbers on the sides measure the height of the characters by centimeters in value of 10. Here's what I was able to get off measurements I observed from characters, though they're rounded thanks to how tough it was to measure things on my monitor:

Henrietta = 138-140 cm ('4'6" to '4'7")
Rico = 148-150 cm ('4'10"-'5')
Angelica = 145 cm ('4'9")
Claes = 155-157 cm ('5'1"-'5'2")
Triela = 160-162 cm ('5'3"-'5'4")
Giuseppe = 178-180 cm ('5'10"-'6')
Jean = 183-185 cm ('6'-'6'1")
Marco = 185-187 cm ('6'1-'6'2")
Hilshire = 173-175 cm ('5'8"-'5'9")
Enrico = 188-190 cm ('6'2"-'6'3")
Enrica = 173-175 cm ('5'8"-'5'9")
Pinocchio = 170-172 cm ('5'7"-'5'8")

That was at the start of episode 4. I checked the scene out. You're right. Hilshire was slightly taller than Giuseppe in that shot.

Which brings up the question of how far to trust this chart in general. Although it does seem reasonably in line with the height variation among the girls, doesn't it?

Should I start a topic for this somewhere else so I don't clutter this thread up too much?

I think it’s pretty accurate as far as the girls are concerned, but it seems screwed up on the handlers side. Hillshire’s the shortest? I don’t think so. Puzzled

Now that I think about it, there is a possible chance I screwed up on telling Hilshire and Giuseppe apart in the design if their heights are the only ones that don't match up. With the rough sketches of the character lineup, I might have mistaken Hilshire on the far left of the handler lineup with Giuseppe.

IF...

Triela = 160-162 cm ('5'3"-'5'4")

AND

Hilshire = 173-175 cm ('5'8"-'5'9")

...
Triela would be up to his nose in height and not a whole head shorter then he is.

Because it is a resin model, not a regular figure. The individual pieces are molded plastic/resin and have to be glued together.

So, given this theory, the Henrietta (from the Gelato model) figure has a head that is about 2.4 cm (not including hair). 2.4*8*7=134.4 cm (~53 inches). Is that reasonable or is that too tall? (2.4 cm measured from chin to top of head)

Too short in my mind. I'd say the '5'3" to '5'4" from the height lineup sketch is accurate for Triela.

Ok, I'm confused again. The current estimates (5'-5'3") is for Triela, correct? The 53" is based on the Henrietta 1/8 model.

Very true. I have two PVC figures of Henrietta (one with her violin case and the other with her firing her P90 which should ship at the end of the month), along with the small figurine set and a resin kit of Henrietta enjoying some gellato.

I've seen a very nice resin kit of Triela with her Winchester 1897, but have yet to find one for sale.

I have the Henrietta with violin case figure and have the crouching figure on order (it is considerably more expensive, though). I have the Triela model on order through the hlj.com site (although its restock status keeps moving).

I almost didn't get the new Henrietta figure because I prefer her more...peaceful...poses, which is why I really like the resin kit.

This just popped into my head earlier today. I apologise if it's been discussed elsewhere, I have a hard time keeping on top of the forums sometimes ^^;

But why do you guys think the Section 1 men refer to Triela as the "Princess"? I understand the "Snow White" reference because she has her seven teddies (plus one), and of course Snow White was a princess. But I doubt the Section 1 guys know what she calls her teddies. The other thing I was thinking, had to do with her being one of the earlier models, maybe the first some of them had seen. Like we saw with Angelica, the men had some really interesting views about suddenly working with little girls. Or is it just her stand-offish nature with the adults? I was just curious what takes people might have on it, if any...

In Episode 3/Season1 (Bambolla), the guys in Section 1 stated that they refer to all the cyborgs Section 2 as princesses and themselves as frogs.

In terms of an in-manga explanation, that's a likely reason.

-looks like in the original Japanese the first section one guy walks in and thought he got the wrong floor because there was a princess waiting at the door.
-the second guy says she's waiting for her prince
-to which the first guy says something like "I didn't know anyone in Section one had that sort of relationship"
-and then the second guy says she's not in section one.
(looked at several translations and put it together using the gist of each line)

It looks like the prince/princess thing is basically section one's way of saying their like the poor commoners to section two's extravagant royalty... e.g. all of the money and fame go to section two, while section one does all the work.

I'd say the princess thing being applied to Triela was just happenstance. The section one guys would've said that about any cyborg.

That makes sense, LoC978. Section One were the top dogs when Section Two was created (per the manga), but once Section Two got the cyborgs, they became the "fair haired" division.

Wasn't Henrietta called a princess in the episode 'Gellato' on several ocassions? By the guy who was in Speical Ops talking to Jose about the attempted bombing and other crimes by terrorists and by Franca in the end of the episode?

I know Franca thought Henrietta was the daughter of a rich Northerner so she felt that was the kind of girl she and Franco were fighting for via the PRF.

Nope. Enzo was a Rome cop, not a specops man, and all he called her (jestingly) was 'missy'.

Don't they say it again though in Il Teatrino..? Episode 5, when she's on the roof, the Section One guys refer to her again as the Princess. It's just with it happening in two different points, it makes it seem like it's more of a "thing".

Though the Section 2 getting all the fame and glory while Section 1 do all the work makes a lot of sense =)

[edit] Just checked the episode, and they did specifically say, "I can't believe one of the cyborgs, especially the Princess Triela". I think that is what was in my head, when I was wondering how she got that kind of nickname.

just checked it as well... looks like Amadeo does call her princess. twice.

the chatbox wrote:[22:17:33] @ LoC978 : now I wonder if it's just the Triad using the word 'princess', or if it really translates as such...

[22:19:13] Piero : Did you here the word 'ojou' in the dialogue?

[22:19:37] * LoC978 rewinds

[22:19:54] Piero : I've heard it's not actually quite a correct translation, but it's pretty commonly accepted as meaning more or less 'princess.'

[22:20:02] Piero : Actually, wait...

[22:20:10] Piero : There's anotehr one you should look out for.

[22:20:14] Piero : 'Hime'

[22:20:33] @ LoC978 : hmmm... "Triela Hime-ga" is used for the second utterance

[22:20:42] Piero : Which I think is actually an actual word for princesses, as where ojou more refers to girls who get treated or act like them.

[22:21:07] @ LoC978 : and the first is "O-Hime-sama"

[22:21:15] @ LoC978 : so yeah, he said it

[22:21:35] Piero : Right.

[22:21:45] Piero : I'm not expert on Japanese, but I'd say that about nails it.

[22:22:10] Piero : Other members might be able to provide a more precise answer though.

[22:23:35] @ LoC978 : I just posted our conversation, just for clarification

[22:25:22] Piero : Ah, alright.

[22:26:01] Piero : I just wish I hadn't suggested 'Ojou' to begin with. Now that I think about it, the word doesn't have overly positive connotations from what I understand. Though I'd have to look it up to be sure.

[22:26:44] Piero : Okay, actually, no...

[22:26:59] Piero : I guess I was thinking too much of certain cases.

[22:27:00] @ LoC978 : s'alright, we're not experts by any means

[22:27:44] @ LoC978 : hell, I had to pause my Alestorm song to hear the dialogue so I could tell...

[22:28:16] Piero : The impression I get though is that 'Hime' is a literal princess, while 'ojou' is more figurative. As in a girl from a rich family or something. Although TV tropes notes that some of them can be actual princesses.

[22:29:08] Piero : Dangit, I was wrong again...

[22:29:40] Piero : "Though together for the purposes of this entry, the ojou, or daughter of a high-society family, is written with distinctly different kanji than the oujo, or princess (literally "lord's daughter"). "

[22:30:00] Piero : Though I believe Hime does pretty much translate as princess, so unless I'm wrong on that, you should be clear.

[22:30:12] Piero : I know one series actually did a bit of wordplay with the term in its title.

[22:31:25] @ LoC978 : wow... complicated: Hime (姫, Hime?) is the Japanese word for princess or a lady of higher birth. Note that although "princess" is usually given as the translation, daughters of a monarch are actually referred to by other terms, e.g. oujyo (王女), literally king's daughter. The word hime initially referred to any beautiful female. The antonym of hime is shikome (醜女), literally ugly female, though it is archaic and rarely used. Hime may also indicate feminine or simply small when used together with other words, such as Hime-gaki (a low line of hedge).

[22:32:06] @ LoC978 : so yeah. it generally means princess. gotta look at the context.

I think it’s just Triela. In the English manga, Georgio calls her a child prodigy and star pupil. I think she’s nicknamed “Princess” because she’s the most talented cyborg.

At the start of Chapter 19, Amadeo also calls Triela princess - "It seems the princess is in a bad mood."

So I am of the opinion that only Triela is referred to as the princess.

It may be because she is the best, but there is also some implication that she and Henrietta were the first cyborgs to go into action. One page 165 of the ADV Volume 2, Triela and Henrietta are seen storming an apartment while the "narrator" notes that Section 2 was granted it's first field assignment.

So perhaps Triela's exploits in the field were what impressed the Prime Minister and Special Operations Director Petris with the cyborg program and earned her that nickname.

Thank you - Triela's additional nicknames hadn't occured to me ^^ Considering they also refer to her as the star pupil and child prodigy, it does make sense that Princess might be in reference to those.

Also, I had forgotton the scene where Triela and Henrietta are shown in Chapter 10, so thanks for pointing that out Very Happy With the anime making that chapter all Angelica, I forgot anybody else was shown in it ^^;;

In the Subtitiled English Anime that I have, when he and Jose stops for a moment and Henrietta continues to walk by, he says,"Hey, where is the princess going?"
