Actually. this is where the manga and the anime differ.
V1 CH4 P142 has it on the last panel:
Triela: I'm warning you, this phone may be bugged.
Fermi: I don't care. I'm not doing anything bad here... Thanks for calling.

in the Anime, it has:
Triela: I'm telling you, this phone may be bugged.
Fermi: I don't care. I'm not doing anything wrong here...

(in the end of the conversation)
Fermi Thanks for the information.

Triela's statement makes it sound that he called her for more information, and she was warning him about the somebody might be listening in on the call. Also the placement is differ for the statements. In the Manga it is at the end, while in the Anime it is in shortly after beginning where added words were placed (ie: Jose's and Henrietta's whereabouts).

If it were not for Fermi saying "Thanks for calling" in the Manga, this would point would still be argueable; this makes it that Triela called him. its the Anime that makes it look more like he called her and not she calling him.

Another difference between the anime and the manga is that in the manga, Triela says that "...we are all on vacation.", in the anime she says "they (Jose and Henrietta) were sent away on vacation."

Why would Triela be calling him? I could would understand that he would as an investigator, trying to reach Jose/Henrietta and not being able to- then calling Triela to ask. But Triela fowarding information like that? Maybe- if Hillshire told her to do so, then I could understand, but not on her own. Unless, maybe, she's making sure that on his next visit he does bring flowers... Laughing

I think that's why they bug the phones. Just so that the girls don't spend all their budget on phone bills. Or worse...

Ok, since we’ve started to learn a good bit more about the girls and their handlers in recent chapters and episodes, I thought it might not be a bad time to revise their sections in the wiki. I also took the liberty of trimming them a bit, since in many cases they were more plot summaries than character summaries. Let me know what you think, please.

Born Victor Hartman, he adopted the name Hillshire for his role in Section 2 when he agreed to become Triela’s handler. A former Europol detective from Germany tasked to inter-departmental liaison at Interpol HQ, Hilshire wanted to join the Child Abuse Regulations Section to help solve a child-torture group operating in Holland. However, his boss denied the requests on the grounds that Hilshire was “too soft” to join the team. Later approached by Rachelle Belleut, the two decided to investigate a warehouse where the torture sessions were rumored to take place. The two received information concerning the child smuggling ring from Mario Bossi, a Camorra leader who experienced an attack of conscience. During that investigation, Rachelle was mortally wounded and Triela was discovered and rescued. Hilshire used his connections to bring Triela to the SWA where Jean Croce effectively coerced him into joining Section 2 in order to protect Triela.

Jose does (well, did - he gave it up for Henrietta), but I don't believe Hillshire has been shown smoking.

^ Yes, Yes!

According to manga(I forget which chapters though) Victor Hartmann brought Triela to the SWA after smuggling her out with the help of Mario Bossi.

When he got to the SWA they helped Triela, but when he discovered that they wiped her memory clean Victor went apeshit, like Alpha when (in Elfen's UN Resolution, that reminds me...) he came home to find out that the UN troops drank all of his beer.

Jean then gives Victor a choice, he could take his new identity and work for the new Section 2 or be disposed of.

Victor gave Triela her name as an anagram of Triela's savior Ratiel

Her name is Rachelle. In Romanji it's pronounced "Rasheru" (ラシェル).

I am going to hazard a guess that he only uses "Hillshire" on SWA business since he still talks to his mother and father where he would be using his given name and his friends and former co-workers at Interpol would know him by that name, as well.

And he dropped her off at the SWA in the belief they would help her, not turn her into a cyborg killer. So for a period of around a year, he had not contact with her. It was never said how he found out they converted her, just that once he found out, he exposed himself and the Agency picked him up and forced him to become her handler (though I believe his own guilt was the prime motivator).

Stanisław Skalski was the top Polish fighter ace of WWII credited, according to official list, with 18 victories and two probable. Some sources, including Skalski himself, give a number of 22 victories mostly in Spitfires, though he did fly a Pzl P24 at first, most of the Polish aces flew Spits and Hurricanes

SIG P232 in stainless (I'm going to guess chambered for 9mm Kurtz) for a sidearm from memory... that's what's written on the box he gives Triela after her first fight with Pino and he said it was his... I assume he got it back later 'cause he's using it again in Vol 10.

Heavier stuff, according to this he uses an HK UMP, but that could just as easily been grabbed from the SWA armory. Honestly, to me at least, Hilshire seems more detective than (heh) gunslinger. It wouldn't suprise me if he only had a personal sidearm then got heavier stuff from the armory on a needs-by basis.

Great, thanks Alfisti. Also, I know it's not exactly on topic, but sinse I'm writing here anyway, does anybody know the approximate body-armour rating that could be applied to the gen.1 girls? Just want to know what kind of bullet to shoot Triela with. I suppose I could always go with my current stand-by of the .500 S&W, but I'm thinking there might not be a lot of opportunity for Padania to get their hands on that kind of ammunition, so maybe something more practical/common would be better. What do you guys think?

Stuff like that is more dictated by Speed Of Plot than being actually calculated to the joule - just go with whatever's expedient for telling your story - but as a rule the first generation cyborgs are effectively impervious to small-arms fire unless you hit them somewhere vulnerable (i.e. a direct square hit in the eyes), getting superficial flesh wounds but nothing that tangibly impairs them. That said, I don't doubt that a cyborg that has an entire magazine unloaded into her head would more than a bit rattled, though - it's a judgement call when there's more than a few hits involved. Explosives and anti-materiel rounds can still put a crimp in their day, though.

Alfisti, you got it right, except that the gun he gave Triela was a new one and not his personal weapon. Now the her personal weapon had been recovered she had both. He's always has his personal weapon. All personal firearms used by the core group of handlers all seem to be 9mm.

And you're right in the second part, coming from Europol, he is more laid back on weapons use and is more into surveillance and intel gathering than gunslinging. Heavier stuff he did get from the armory.

Padania, like most of Europe would be millimeter rounds: 7mm & 9mm specs. Dot Caliber ammo is devoted to US American standard firearms. Despite their connections to the military, Padania only has what it can get, mainly Nato and European arms and its Ammo.

Of the SWA Section 2 staff, only Olga uses American Ammo, for she uses an American Dessert Eagle in .45ACP (in the Video game, the cyborg Pia uses the same gun in .50 cal).

In a Scandation done by Tommy, the words used in that vol (V7 I think it was), Hillshire says "...its just (or exactly) like mine." In both the manga and anime the gun was in a new box. If Hillshire would have given her his gun he would have taken it out of his pocket and handed it over to her, not given it to her in a box. (Unless Hillshire is something of a super-neat freak...)

In reality, it would make no sense for Hillshire to give his gun to her because that leaves him defenseless and counting on Triela 100% on defending him if something were to happen.

He is German.

That said, Tommy's take makes sense (V4 by the way)... I thought the choice of words was odd when I read the manga.

At the time I justified it to myself as he gave Triela his, then drew another from the armory or got a new one...

Or it was a spare. Monty's PPK was effectively Jethro's spare/thing he kept for kicks.

He gave it to her in V4? I thought it was later when he sent her to hand combat training. Hmmm.
I'll research that one later, I have V4 on the shelf.

He should be used to it considering she has no compunctions about reaching onto someone else's plate to steal a piece of chicken.

Ok, thanks for that bit of info Elfin, but it doesn't really answer my original question of what you guys think the ballistics rating is on the gen.1 girls' body armour. I could probably just hit Triela with another SLAP/HEIAP round like I use to kill Sophia, but I really want some kind or armour-piercing handgun round, as my intention is to highlight the kind of personality inherent to the Padania leader that shoots her; that is, he enjoys the kind of over-the-top feeling of arrogant power that carrying around a personal side-arm of that size give him. So yeah, any help/advice would certainly be appreciated.

If your looking for a high calibre Europian handgun, might I suggest a Webley Mark 1, 2, 3, or 4 in .455 Webley, Webley&Scott Mark 1 in .455 Webley Auto, Enfield Mark 2 in .476 Eley, or a Gabbett-Fairfax "Mars" firing a powerful .45 Mars round. There is also a 12.3mm less then lethal revolver known as the "Udar" made in Russia.

In terms of CEN prEN ISO 14876 Body Armour Standards ratings, I imagine their chests are Level 4 and their abdomen and extremities (arms, legs, head) are Level 3.

Triela bleed fairly decently when she took a 5.56x45mm rifle round at point-blank range in the gut, but she was still combat effective, so the round probably didn't penetrate too deeply. And the girls have been shown to bleed from pistol round impacts in the manga (and especially) the anime, though they just shrug them off.

In general, I agree, but Triela felt getting shot in the gut and Beatrice certainly felt the impact of that 20mm round.
