Yeah, I ended up with two of them. They are FN SCAR 16S', so they are the semi-auto version. I got them on sale at a local gun store for ~$2K/ea, which was $350 lower than usual. Had to do something with the money I saved on my last deployment.

One of these days, I'm gonna get the camera back out and do another photo review of them.

In my original stories, Michele and Kara both used the HK P2000SK pistol:

Kara also used the HK XM8 modular assault rifle system as it was still in development for the US Army at the time:

Pactio takes place in the current world, so the XM8 is no longer available. I have therefore gone with FN.

FN Five_seveN Pistol:

FN P90 PDW:

FN F2000 Assault Rifle:

For sniper and anti-material roles, Kara uses both the:

AMP DSR-1 Subsonic

and the Barrett XM500 (chambered for .50BMG):

I tend more to the weapons my OC Emilie is using. (Or she uses the weapons i like very much Razz )

Primary weapons:
Walther BlackTec:

(getting more and more the favorite primary weapon)

Black SCUBA Diving Knife:

(was her main weapon till she got a second knife)

Throwing-Daggers in a special holster:

(she carries the holster in missions on her thigh under the skirt.)

Secondary Weapons:
FN Five Seven with attached silencer (loaded with SS190 rounds):

(her standard gun for missions where she need to shoot instead of fighting with knives and her bare hands)

Other weapons she used earlier or i like to choose for later missions:
Spoiler:
Used earlier:
FN P90 with attached silencer: (loaded with SS190 rounds)

(She used that earlier, just for cliche)

B + T MP9 with silencer, scope and tactical laser:

(She used this for a protection mission)

For Use on later missions:
FN Minimi M249:

(For Backup in missions like the attack at the power plant)

M68 Grenade launcher:

(loaded with tear gas or explosive grenades for backup or storming a padanian hideout)

Re: So...You kill with what gun now? (Your Favorite weapons)

Post by Alfisti on Wed 16 Mar 2011 - 3:00

This has been chronicled elsewhere, but anyway:

Monty, with at least a little infamy by now I hope, uses a vintage Walther PPK almost exclusively. 1965, 7.65mm, West German manufacture...

...with or without silencer, depending on what she's doing. (oh, and imagine it with black grips)

Why'd I choose it? Multitude of reasons, but the short version is that it suits her character. I ran around for litterally months trying to find something that suited her, swore I'd not give her a PPK (ironically because it was a cliche), but just kept coming back to it as most suitable.

That it was concealable, looked cool and came chambered for 7.65mm didn't hurt either.

Ah yes, the round. Again I thought a smaller (without going too far the other way) round suited the sort of outlook Monty and her handler likely have, with guns as a last resort rather than a first option.

There was some logic there too. As far as I know 7.65mm is civillian legal most places where guns are the same, and since J+M operate internationally and generally independent of SWA support being able to buy their ammo over the counter would be a plus. Second it's subsonic and third the PPK was originally designed for 7.65mm and apparently is somewhat more reliable in that chambering. Yes it's small, but since J+M's specialisations are in information gathering, espionage, theivery and generalised romantic adventure, their likelyhood of needing to engage badguys is somewhat lower than most fratelli.

Concealability and logistics are more important.

If Jethro's going to bet his life on something he likes it to have a few trustworty miles on it, hence he still uses the same gun he started with in MI6... a SIG P230:

Same chambering as Monty's PPK, keeping the fratello's logistics simple. Similar upsides and downsides to this one as the PPK, I just wanted Jethro using something different to her as he's not the type to select matching firearms. To be honest the PPK was something he originally was just hanging onto because he thought it was interesting. The SIG name didn't hurt my decision making either.

The fratello also have access to a Welrod Silent from WWII:

It's a Mk.II so uses the same chambering as their day-to-day pistols. Originally I had them carry it around broken down, but now think it probably falls into the "diplomatic bag it out" category.

Why? Well, I think the name says it all. It's manual cycling and very, very well silenced. Only carries about seven rounds, but by the same token the silencer's only good for ten to fifteen before it need to be stripped down and reconditioned. However, for the sort of mission it'd be used on, if Jethro or Monty need more than ten rounds they've probably got bigger problems then the gun not being quiet anymore.

Other stuff they've picked up from time to time so far ranges from the Golden Gun, to a Lee-Enfield Jungle Carbine (WWII era again, read: romantic adventure gun), MP40, Skorpion Vz.61, Stirling-Patchett Mk.5 (suppressed version of the Stirling SMG), various AKs, and a Moonraker laser.

Something for Triela:

Suppressed shotgun Good

Alfisti, something for your Monty:

Suppressed Ruger Mk III

Man, I really start to fall in love with suppressed/silenced guns w00t!
A silencer can make the ugliest gun look alot better.

Suppressed Heckler & Koch MP5SD4

Suppressed SIG 250:

Suppressed Walther P22:

Without Suppressor i don't like these guns very much but with attached silencer they really does look alot better and cooler.

I did actually consider the Ruger for Jethro and Monty's arsenal, but at the end of the day it was going to be one more gun they had to carry, one more type of ammo they'd need to aquire and, possibly more importantly one more weapon's system they'd need to somehow conceal in their car. More weapons = greater chance of being asked awkward questions at border crossings. Razz Hence why pretty much all their equipment is off-the-shelf civillian rather than SWA/military created oddities.

At the end of the day the PPK is probably the best "compromise" firearm for Monty, skewed obviously for her personality and role. It's concealable, easy to get ammo for, accurate (apparently, for it's class), can be silenced and at a pinch she can use it in a firefight. 7.65mm may be no man-stopper, but it'll still do more immediate damage then .22LR. Again, for her, it's a decent compromise round.

The gun Emilies uses as standard (for missions where she can't use her knives):

FN Herstal FiveSeven.
Chambered for 5,7x28mm. It's usually loaded with armor piercing rounds of the type SS190 FMJ 'AP' (Full Metal Jacket 'Armor Piercing')
For use with mounted silencer in closer areas (stealth-kill missions for example inside of a building) Emilie sometimes uses subsonic rounds of the type SB193 FMJBT (Full Metal Jacket Boat Tail).
I have chosen this gun simply cause she is Belgian, for the cliche, but it's also a good choice cause it's the same caliber as her P90.

I've taken an interest in this... and therefore, Saladin probably will, too:

Also, given its design, it might be practical for J+M as a sort of all-around long gun (though I know they travel light, and probably won't be able to take this wherever they go). While the Picatinny rail for scope mounting is there, I imagine Monty and Jethro would be perfectly fine with the Ghost Ring and front post iron sights.

That is getting a new favorite of my own:

IZMASH PP-19 'Bizon'
Usually chambered for 9x18mm Makarov, but also available in 7,62x25 Tokarev and 9x18 Parabellum.

But as much as i like this gun, it doesn't will become a gun of my belgian OC's Etienne and Emilie.

Well, the "diplomatic bag it out rifle" role is currently filled by the Lee-Enfield no. 5 Jungle Carbine:

Which of course cut it's teeth fighting in the jungles of Malaya and definately fills Jethro's "got a few reliable miles on it" criteria. It also helps that it looks right being carried as a "anti-Tiger defence gun" through a jungle... Wink

That said, I do like that scout rifle.

Lee-Enfield no. 5 Jungle Carbine,a problamatic gun,the flash ,because of the shortened barrel, was so big and bright you lost all night vision, and it had a wandering zero, one day it could shoot off a gnats balls the next it couldn't hit a barn

I am of the opinion that outside of sniping work, the bolt-action rifle no longer has any military relevance.

This I'd agree with.

To be honest I guess I'd generally pictured the Jungle Carbine being carried as a defensive option whilst "on safari", if that makes sense. Due to it's style (wooden, bolt-action, kinda beat-up looking), age and, as Awinnell rightly pointed out: eccentricities, in the environments J+M are likely to carry it it shouldn't raise too many eyebrows. If should J+M need an offensive firearm they'll aquire an AK-47 or something similar along the way.

As to the sniping role: well both Jethro and Monty are pretty rotten (on human and cyborg terms respectively) at it so...

Perhaps, should at some point they require a bolt action rifle in a more serious role the Ruger Scout would be a good option. I'm sure the SWA has a couple in the armory if required.

Being a good shot, my rifle would be the Cheytec M200 Intervention system

Being the rifle with the longest range to date, it also packs down easily for storage or carry;

My CQB firearm would have to be the new Kel Tec KSG Shotgun

I love the bullpup design which enables it to be very compact compared to most other rifles. The triple barrel system also allows me to carry 14+1 rounds. That means less reloading for me.

My sidearm would have to be the Nighthawk Tactical GRP Recon. A very modern M1911 model.

Would be carried in a shoulder harness under my left arm.

My United Cutlery combat knife would be carried with the same harness, above my 1911 and in front of my left shoulder.

For a weapons system just becoming 100 years old now, there is very little change between the original and modern pistol, and all 1911s of today are basically the same. Only tolerances and tight vs sloppy builds will make or break a gun. I would recommend a wide frame 1911 by Alan Tillman, Angleport, Les Baer, Briley, Bul Transmark, Campiere Custom, Clark Custom, Cylinder & Slide, E.A.A., Entreprise, Israel Arms Inc., Kimber, Limcat, Millennium Custom, Novak, Para Ordnance, Rock Island, Rock River Arms, Imbel, Springfield Armory, STI, SVI, Tussey Custom, and/or Wilson Combat. Depending on the frame- 10 - 16 round capacity on .45ACP.

But the 1911 is the gun to have.

I dunno, I think that handle-mounted laser sight is pretty clever. Most unobstructive tactical accessory I've ever seen.

As for beams being traced, I've seen laser sights that merely put a dot on the target and don't produce a beam that one can follow back to the source.

The flashlight can be detached upon discretion and actually has a small enough diameter to fit in a specialized holster. The laser sight can be switched on or off. The main purpose of the laser sight is for me to shoot nonlinear shots a lot more accurately.

I would consider a wide frame 1911 just for a larger ammo count, and I did when I was younger, but the standard frame 1911 fits more comfortable in my hand and in it's holster. Nighthawk Tactical makes a very tight build on the model and fire smooth as butter.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Nachtsider wrote:I dunno, I think that handle-mounted laser sight is pretty clever. Most unobstructive tactical accessory I've ever seen.

The problem (and its a minor one) is this- some 1911 have an ambudextious Thumb-Safety, others only have it on the left side (where the thumb would be on right handed shooters)
The Thumb Safety Mechanism on left side of a Colt Agent 1911

No Thumb Safety Mechanism on right side of a Cold Agent 1911

SpringFeild Armoury's EMP 1911 with Rightside Thumbsafety for lefthanded shooters

In the North American Arms, NAA and Gaurdian seires, the safety mechanism is a thumb push botton which is acceable on both sides of the pistol and with a laser mounted on the grip, would not interfere with safety as it would on the 1911 (right sides safeties only)

Another problem with grip mounted lasers (and in fact with all laser aiming systems for all handguns) is dropping it or the gun receiving a good whack (like busting down a door with one's shoulder and the gun is on that side of the body), will throw off the laser by a degree or two. This throws off the aiming by a little at extreme close range, but for moderately close range and medium and long range it will throw off the laser that shooting would miss the target everytime.

Nachtsider wrote:As for beams being traced, I've seen laser sights that merely put a dot on the target and don't produce a beam that one can follow back to the source.

Certain enviroments will show the beam: fog, dust in the air and rural night time (city lighting has enough light pollution in it to conceal a red laser beam's light trail). In this situation, it can be followed to its source. Another issue, if your opponant is facing you while you have laser dotted him, he can see the glow of your laser aiming device, so now you have made yourself a target as you are making him one as well.

Also, certain colors do leave a light trail behind their beams: Red to Orange, Green and Blue Lasers. Darker Reds (those close to the infrared) will not leave a trail, but depending on their laser (most cheap laser pointers are in this range) only have a limit of 100ft. Of course, the beam will go on indefinately, but you can not see the beam's reflection when it hits something. with more expansive laser pointers, the beam can be seen a couple of miles. With gun laser aiming systems, you pay what you get for. Most, like laser pointers are cheap and have a limited range.

Dont let SiG, Colt, Spring Amoury, STI, SVI, Rock Amoury and many other 1911 makers hear you say that. The 1911 is a proven workhorse and even a sloppily built 1911 is still a good gun to have. Many of them, especially the Smith & Wesson version of the 1911 was voted #1 by many gun magazines in the past couple of years. With Smith and Wesson, who has been making 1911 parts since the first world war, but never their own version of the 1911 until just a couple of years ago, winning this postion of 'Best Gun' is a honor to have.

Have you considered a 1911 with a Super .38 or 9mm version? In the standard frame, 1911s in .38Super and 9mm can hold 9+ rounds in its magazine without nedding extended magazines or wdie width frams.

Ah, so it's an environmental thing that determines whether or not a beam can be seen.

Along the same lines...here's a good reason I didn't take Marisa with me to the Musee de la Marine in Paris;

Marisa: Hand canon!

Voodoo: No, Mari...it's meant to be mounted on the gunwale of a ship...that's what the heavy lugs on the side are for.

The Henry Nock Volley guns are the most famous and were designed by James Wilson and some 600 were made around 1780. They were used on board ships in the fighting tops of naval vessels. Henry Nock became sole supplier of these weapons to the British Navy. All seven barrels fire at once, this considerable flash is purported to have risked setting fire to the sails. The first few weapons were rifled, but that made them difficult to load as well as delivering an uncomfortable recoil.
