Redoing The Math.

Post by ElfenMagix on Sat 19 Jul 2008 - 18:18

In re-reading the Manga, Claes was brought in at about 10+, Rico at 11. Somewhere I saw 10 also being the number for Henrietta.

Now, if we apply these figures to Angie and Triela, Angie would be 16-17 at the time of her death, and Triela about 16. Considering the time spent for all the other Type 1s, each cyborg would be about 15+ at Vol. 9/10, and around 14 at the time the second season anime comes out.

Though we have agrued that the cyborgs do not grow, although the manga suggests that they do slighty; perhaps giving them some slight limb adjustments once a year, it shows that they do not mature. They dont grow hips or breasts, as if their development is stunted. Adding to this, most are capable of bearing children as Triela has her period, with the others except Henrietta does too. Why would Claes be taking estrogene if not to stop or alter her development? It is a form of birth control, but there is more to this than it seems...

I know we see Claes taking meds in vol.4, but I donít recall it ever being identified as estrogen. I always assume it was something being tested on her. However, we do know Henrietta is taking it, which in her situation, makes sense.

It said it was estrogen in the scantalation, at least...

Thatís a scanlators commentary. That comment does not appear in either the Japanese or English versions of the manga.

In redoing the math, if Angelina was cyborg'd at 10, and spent 6+ years as Angelica, then that makes her older than Petra...

I remember that discussion Awinnell, but the fact still remains - Henrietta is the only girl we know for sure is taking estrogen. (Which as I said makes sense - women who have had hysterectomies take estrogen supplements.)

As far as the meds Claes was taking, itís anyoneís guess. It could have been antacid for all we know.

I think youíre in the ballpark Elfen. We know two things for sure:

1. As of present, Triela has been on board for 6 years.
2. Angelica has been there longer then Triela.

6+, possibly 7. Maybe more...

Not just Triela. All the girls, especilly Angelica. Maybe it's just their personalities but they seem to act like children than their actual age. Triela and Claes are the only ones who really act their age, if they truly are 14-16.

their minds just stagnate a little due to their surroundings, I'd say... heavily restricted social contact and an education revolving around the business of assassination will do that to a person.

Hey, no rule sez one can't. I'm not the only author who does this - we all plug our stories here, and plug other authors' stuff, too. If I recall right, I've plugged yours on multiple occasions. Doesn't make us any worse than vendors down at the market touting their wares...

The nearest in the real world that i can think of are Elite gymnasts, they live and breath the sport, spend 8 hours plus a day at the gym,and watch their diet, all this delays the effects of puberty leaving young women of 18 with the physical developement of 13 year olds,so if a restricted diet and a lot of exercise can do that anything is possible

I think it extends more than that where the GSGs are concerned, really. How the hell is someone 80% carbon frame, carbon fiber and artificial muscle supposed to physically develop?

That's probably why they BARELY physically develop. Someone should just go to Japan and ask Yu Aida about all this lol. she/he's the only one who knows for sure

I'd love to ask. If I have the time, I'll send him a letter. I doubt he'll be reading it, but better than nothing. Although I do have an idea that it was due to the medication.

The girls might not grow, but scan through all the volumes again. They do grow significantly. You don't measure people by their breasts, you measure them by their height, facial changes, etc.

What's keeping them from growing is the medication. Their internal organs, even if you have a machined ribcage would grow to support your body. I won't be surprised to find the girls having been called to see Dr. Bianchi and his team to be interviewed and 'reconstructed' for their body to accept the change. Its just the way Yu-sensei draw that makes them look like they didn't grow--but they did.

Just a voice of opinion. If I do the math, I think Henrietta (we first met her when she was...10? 11?) would be around...12-13 years. Claes around 14-15, Rico 13-14, and Triela 15-16.

Now Petra...hohoho...possibly 17-19

I agree, and didn't Rico say that she was 10 when she joined the agency, two years after which she was introduced into the storyline?

So if anyone can work out the amount of time the story itself takes, there we have Rico's age. Very Happy

Rico was eleven when she got signed up - I peg this as being in 2002. Hence, by the current installment, which I peg as being around 2007 or so, she'd be seventeen - mentally speaking only, I say. Unless Yu explicitly tells me otherwise or I'm somehow conclusively proven wrong, she's a seventeen-year-old trapped in an eleven-year-old's body, and the same rule applies to all the other girls in my book.

Still, I wouldn't put it past the translators to change something like that...

2002--->2008

Hey, don't compare their year with real-time.

When its been going like...9 years here, in the manga world, it'll be about...five months or less? Or even a YEAR. Its not the same as real-time, it just tells the story possibly day by day, time-skipping this and that, etc.

If not, I'd say class 2C in School Rumble would've failed year 11 for like...6 years? And they'd be about 24 and is still in high school...? Whew...

Only thing we can be sure about is that about 2 Christmases had past.
1 Around the Elsa Incident w/Triela and Hillshire going out to Milan shortly afterwards and returning.
and 1 around Volume 10...

Everything else about Triela and Angie being in for 6+ years is speculative Pre-Episode 1 on both the Manga and Anime.

I would say she does not have a 17-year-old's mindset, mainly do to all the drugs Jean makes her take. I would Triela is the girl who comes closest to her age's mindset with Claes in a close second (Petra does count 'cause she's new). The other girls all seem to act younger.

Everything else about Triela and Angie being in for 6+ years is speculative Pre-Episode 1 on both the Manga and Anime.

you mention it. it's a prove that triela is at least 8 years there.

1st year is just for the reconstruct and 7 operational years. she has 8 teddy bears, 1 from mario and 7 from hartman, 1 a year. about the first year, it comes from hartman own mouth in chapter 56. easier than wild guess.

Nope, Mario said it was only 6 years. She probably got some on days other than Christmas... or Yu didn't think ahead. sweat

Which is why I'll stick to 2001-2007 as Triela's operational period thus far.

But those Teddy bears weren't only for Christmas present. It is also for her Birthday (since Hillshire is practically clueless and thinks that Teddy Bears are the way to go for Birthday Presents AND Christmas--maybe other holidays too)

So 8 teddy divided by 2, will be 4 since there's a possibility she receive a teddy bear per year--then there's also one year where she receives possibly 3--one for her birthday, one from Hillshire, another from Mario.

I think 4 years would be her operational service

speculation on Triela's current operational lifespan
Spoiler:
we don't know for certain exactly how long she's been operating, but we do know it's six years or less:

my guess is about five to five and a half years.

I can't remember the manga saying she got teddy bears on her birthday too. In fact, I don't think anyone knows her birthday. Though I could be remembering it wrong.
Spoiler:
We know it was about one year before she was operatable. That gives 5 years of service or a little less.
